apparently bel's full-moon dumbing-down takes the form of becoming more playful and easily amused.

... and i have deja vu. did i say that before?

you didn't but i think that is completely adorable and you should go for it. i get the feeling that bel was a very serious little kid.

we never decided exactly what time of year it is in the werewolf rp, i think? so i am declaring that it's mid-november. the climate in northern minnesota that time of year can swing from t-shirt weather to snow and back again in the course of hours. it's perfectly reasonable that they got some bitter pellet snow overnight, pretty frost on everything in the morning, and then by midmorning it's warming up toward sunny lounging weather.

it'll be almost uncomfortably warm for about half an hour just before sunset, and then as soon as the sun goes behind the trees the temp will start to plunge, and by early morning their breath will be freezing to the inner walls of the tent.

i miss autumn camping on the north shore, can you tell? :P

so i'm thinking if they set off on the loop right after bel can human again, they'll be waaaay out there in the middle of nowhere when erskin can human. that sounds like fun to play.

:D :D :D would you like me to get them there? if so, i would like to know for my summary sort of how erskin goes about things. they are probably the only ones that far out there.

oops, off shopping, back now (WITH ICE CREAM (and a proper sink strainer)). sure, i love your summaries. erskin would want to sleep off the gutbomb for the day, then be down for more playing around the next few. typical dog games, keepaway and tag and tug of war and stuff, and probably some extra human ones like hide-and-seek or capture-the-flag. he really wouldn't be up for much talking or object manipulation on the night/day of the full moon, he'd just want to run around and play and hang out. he wouldn't seriously object— just teasingly— to bel reading or listening to music, but i don't think he'd be able to follow the thread of a narrative after awhile.

as for food, erskin is sort of a roving opportunist, he'd chase after and pounce on anything that looked likely to be a snack, and encourage bel to do the same. tho i think after stuffing down a bunch of deer neither of them would be interested in going after big game for another 4-5 days at least.

edit: also they're just passing through so they wouldn't be obviously scent marking anything. that'd be a challenge that erskin has no inclination to issue. bel might have the urge to be like I'M BIG AND COOL AND I WAS HERE, though. even if he did i don't think it'd provoke a fight with the locals or anything.

that sounds so great and nice, i want to be them rn :D

i am frazzled, today involved too much noise and movement, i was not prepared. i may not be up for writing a thing for several hours, possibly not til tomorrow. much apology. you could write a thing if you're eager, but i am honestly looking forward to describing lots of wilderness rompings, i'm just. yeah.

it'd be interesting if, when bel's turned back human after being a woof for almost a week in a row, he's a little disoriented by the sensory and cognitive change— i mean he wouldn't be in such rough shape as erskin was at first, but he might get a touch of 'whoah! okay. i am once more a fan of climbing things and setting my food on fire'.

sometimes i wonder if a difference between human perception and canine is that humans get a lot less raw data about our environment (even if we're doing slightly better than dogs at seeing stuff) but we have a lot more ideas about our environment. we think about how to use things, we assume most things can be used. like... a dog could smell everyone who had been through a kitchen and all the food, but their concept of kitchen is still kind of 'well it's a place where food is sometimes accessible'. our concept of kitchen is knowing how to use basically every object in it— stove, fridge, sink, cabinets, raw and cooked ingredients, all of it. so it's arguable whether a human or a dog would perceive a kitchen better.

oooh hey I'm sorry I've been craplump lately :C I wrote up a tiny lu post but then I wasn't sure what kind of food the ship would have (I know they don't get a terrible amount of fresh meat and stuff) so I'll post it when I learn that <3

They'd have a lot of trollish plant foods, plus grubloaf, which i imagine to be big grubs grown in bins, fed some kind of hypercheap matter, and yield something sort of of bologna and sort of meatloaf-- cheap, default meat product.

Tbh i think trolls are fruit-and-insectivores, with a preference for gooshy sacklike items like berries and larvae, and not much in the way of molars and incisors for chewy high-fiber foods like broccoli, but its easy to default to writing about more terrestrial, omnivorous diets. And canon trolls do have a lot of identical foods like apples and cotton candy and pizza and milk... The most overlap is fruit, followed by junk food, with vegetables being the least.

So basically make shit up and have fun. I do think tho as one stipulation, the colder castes with slower metabolisms would do better on high protein diets, and the warmer castes would want more carbs. I dont think any caste could go vegan, they really dont seem set up for it.

Edit: i like to write seadwellers as lactose intollerant, and erskin also doesnt digest green roughage very well. No salads or veggie platters for him! Id imagine Lu's got a higher appetite for sweets and high-fat, high-carb junk food, since shes actively malnourished.
