Yesssss good. 8D If you ever need help, the Tumblr TSW fandom exists pretty much to get people to play this game and help them.

#I'm sorry #TSW is the thing I will flail about for hours #don't get me started on builds #never get me started on builds

I often feel really out of place in gamer circles because I didn't have the same game upbringing as a lot of people. Especially American gamer people. My first game addiction? Elite. I've always preferred games involving driving or piloting a vehicle, whether spaceships or race-cars or planes or tanks, tending toward the fairly but not ultra-realistic. I've spent ridiculous amounts of times racing in Gran Turismo, through lots of different versions. I played Microsoft Train Simulator for years. My current sim-ish obsession is War Thunder Ground Forces, which is World War II and immediately post-war tank combat (similar to, but more realistic than, the well known World Of Tanks).

I've also played ridiculous amounts of World of Warcraft, but am burned out and taking a break from that.

Never really gotten into any of the typical games that people like. I really don't like first person shooters. I don't like platform games. A lot of game types really just don't gel for me.

TSW! I'm getting back into it after leaving for about a year - I'm starting on Tokyo. The giant patch that changed a bunch of elite abilities hit while I was not playing, so I may need to go back and redo all my NM builds. If you want to talk about builds, you would have an interested listener in me. :)

Bombardment! Bombardment is suprisingly amazing in dungeons. Like consistently about 25% of my damage amazing. Do or Die is much more situational now, its best for fights where you won't have to move during buffs. Unless you're using Bombardment. Short Fuse is less amazing than it used to be. It's still nice but sometimes I'll get a group where no one bothers to take it. The new Molten Steel is actually better since you no longer have to use it as an elemental force consumer. It's like a single target + crit Clearing the Path now. Also Bombardment.

Also a note for Tokyo, leech effects don't work while shields are up so if your solo build relies on them you might need other sources of healing until you get your Aegis gear up.

#I did warn you #if we keep going we can start a different thread so we don't clutter this one

I played some The Vanishing of Ethan Carter on Sunday, @IvyLB can attest to the fact that I wussed out about halfways because DAMN some of the parts are too damn scary for me to play (and the others I only played because I very definitely know that nothing is going to happen).

I kinda wanna LP some of the old classics (Legend of Zelda franchise, where I will go the markiplier route of I'm shit at this but I'm having fun anyways; Mother series), as well as Child of Light (seriously me wanting to LP this is the only reason I haven't started playing it yet).

Apart from that, Pokemon nerd to the bones.

Among The Sleep was a very good game to watch, I'll be interested in discussing ending interpretations :D

    I. Love that game. It was rough to play, but I finished it in pretty much one sit down session and it was amazing. If you are interested I could redownload it and stream it on Twitch?
Oh yeah, I figured out how to do Twitch today, and I'm starting up a from scratch playthrough of Dragon Age: Inquisition that I intend to stream every session of. I did the tutorial tonight but forgot to archive it, but if people were interested in watching I wouldn't mind doing it again.

Yesterday I finally finished Chapter 2 of Life Is Strange. God. What a beautiful heartbreaking thing. I'd had to stop playing it for a while because it was too much, but I'm glad to have resumed it when I did! Especially because I was able to make good choices and make things better. To put it in unspoilery terms, it deals with some heavy topics, but it does so really competently and when you finish Chapter 2, it has a very nice message of "if the contents of Life Is Strange affect you, go to this page with resources", which is a very responsible and thoughtful atitude I think more media should have. And UGH, now I really want the next chapter.

Lately I've been playing Final Fantasy 14. Kind of taking a small break from it though. I have to get my story stuff done before the expansion hits, but I dunno, I get so burnt out on MMOs so quickly nowadays. I have like no MMO gaming friends anymore and loneliness leads to anxiety and then boredom.. I might poke at Guild Wars 2 again since it's a pretty good backburner game since it has no sub.

Other than MMOs I have so much shit installed that I just have not touched.. every once in a while I load up Contraption Maker and do a few levels, it's pretty fun. I'd really like to get into a meatier game though.. honestly I've been considering just downloading a PS1 emulator and having a nostalgia fest of old JRPGs.

@Aniseed what server are you on? I just started FF14 a month ago. Honestly, I'm not in that big of a hurry to make it all the way before Heavensward, but I play in a pretty laid-back way, I guess.

@Enzel I'm on Balmung! I'm actually kind of taking my time with things, but I resubbed after quitting for a while and was already around level 40, so it took me like 2 months to even hit cap. Now I know I have like another 2 months to finish the story and all, but it's just kind of a difficult game for my attention span, and I feel so guilty because I know I'm not focusing enough to play very well. It doesn't matter so much right now in content that other people have been blazing through for the past few months, but I'm worried about how much of a burden I'm going to be on strangers in Heavensward.

Ooh, I just managed to get a character on balmung thanks to all the maintenance lately.

The pressure is tough. Are you tank/healer/dps? Also the people I play with are pretty forgiving, I'm still kinda new and learning to tank for the first time. If you ever feel up to it I wouldn't mind running stuff. Finding a casual FC is probably good too, but saying that makes me a hypocrite because I'm a nervous wreck and only joined an FC because it was tiny. (My main is on tonberry, tho I'm considering transferring her to balmung.)

EDIT: depending on what your focus problems are...I have trouble w too much stuff going on at once so I turned battle effects wayyy down in the options and it made dungeons much less busy. If it's an emotional thing and not a sensory thing, a break might be best though. Look after yourself! Or maybe try some new classes for a change of pace?

I swapped to DPS when I resubbed because I figured it'd be less stress (I had been playing a healer) but of course I went for Monk which is apparently a fairly difficult DPS class to play since it doesn't really have a set rotation? Lots of things to watch to figure out what to press when. It gets stressful and I know I'm not hitting the right things in the right order when I start to space out. I figure I'll just try to get through the story as best as I can with Monk and then maybe in the lull before expansion hits I'll see if any other DPS stresses me out less to play.

I am in a FC, I went out of my way to look around and join a small-ish one, but I still feel so weird whenever I actually try to talk with them. They're pretty okay people though, I know it's probably just all in my head.

I have an alt problem (even tho the game is set up to do everything on one character... ) so I've tried Pugilist on one of them and I see what you mean about how it could get extra confusing.

I quite enjoy both Lancer and Arcanist, DPS-wise. My character on Balmung I made as a Conjurer, though, because I used to play healer in another game and I figured it would make getting parties easier. But it is tough. I find tanking harder, though.

If you do feel like playing again and want to hit me up, I'd be cool with that. I make mistakes all the time, so I'm not gonna judge. My Conjurer is named Nennali Durant.

Been having a lot of fun with my new M18 Hellcat in War Thunder Ground Forces. I think it's the most fun tank in the game to drive around. The fastest tank ever in the world until the 1980s, and you can seriously drift with it in-game. Not sure whether that part is realistic, but it's silly and makes me grin.

Ooh! Haven't played WT, but I've heard of it since it's competition for World of Tanks, which I do play.

The Hellcat's fun in WoT too, cause big gun + fast is a good combination, but I actually like playing the Matilda better. I'm not very coordinated, so moving and shooting at the same time is not easy for me, and that's pretty much the best way to play the Hellcat. My Matilda, on the other hand, has decent armour and a small gun with a fast reload on it, which means that I can roll right up to a good number of tanks in the tiers I meet in battle and pew-pew at them until they go boom.

(This is also a fun strategy because some players become extremely disoriented if you charge them head-on, even in a small, slow tank with a small gun.)

@Enzel Pugilist isn't bad to start out with, but you go from having a base combo of like 3 buttons to having to juggle 2 attacks you can use in each stance. It's a lot of having to keep debuffs up and buffs up and it's easy to lose track of things. Once FF14 allows modding it might actually get easier for me to play, but right now it's really hard to find a position where I can have all the buffs and debuffs in an easy place for me to see.

I've heard Lancer gets better once you hit Dragoon, I found it kind of boring early on. I do need to get it up to about 34 anyway for a cross class skill though so that'll give me time to try it out. I actually got Ninja to around 38, but I'm not sure if I'll have a better time remembering the Chi orders for stuff either.

When I started playing I actually started on Arcanist because I was going to go healing, but I could just level summoner class. I'll finish the story as Monk first though and then I'll see what I have time to do before the expansion hits really. I'm actually semi excited for Machinist because I like being ranged non-caster DPS and Archer/Bard I don't know how I feel about.

My character name is Charlotte Wolfsong, though you can only add friends when they're online, and I'm not sure when I will be (I have some cleaning to do.)

@Aniseed np, I'm usually on after 10pm EST, tho this weekend is an exception because I'm resting up after getting my wisdom teeth out, haha. I don't have much else to do.

Honestly, aside from keeping track of who's aggroing what I find Gladiator the easiest to play, because you mostly just spam Flash and pop ethers, haha. I just got to paladin w/ mine, I'm debating on whether to remake her on Balmung or pay the transfer fee.

I'm p excited for Machinist too, it reminds me of Artificer from Dungeons & Dragons Online, which was my fav thing to play after cleric.

@Elaienar: Cool! I haven't played WoT much, but they have a lot in common. WT has a somewhat more realistic damage model, while WoT's hit point system might be considered better gameplay; pretty subjective, though. Definitely more one-shotting in WT. It does mean that the balance of armor/speed/gun favors different "sweet spots"; in particular, a low-powered gun hurts you a lot worse in WT, and accurate shooting is more critical because only by penetrating hits on vitals are you going to score kills.

This seems like the place to put down my current aspirations and frustrations.
So: my career goal, for the last twelve years or so, has been to one day work for Bioware. I've been planning the steps to that goal for a long time now - my double degree is in literary and cultural studies and creative writing. 4 courses away from finishing that, thwarted by outside events. Hopefully I can manage it this year. At one point I joined a team that posted a vacancy for a writer on indie db. I worked incredibly hard and was promoted to lead writer inside of a month, before the project folded under due to internal political conflicts between the leaders.
Still, that was enough to get me an internship at GameSkinny, where I worked incredibly hard and succeeded beyond my wildest dreams for the first season, and was invited back for the second. And then had to bow out because I was thwarted by outside events.
Since then, it feels like my progress has stagnated. A few times I've tried to make my own games, but I can't code or produce the other assets needed. Something like Choice of the Deathless might be plausible, and I've been looking into it, but I'm just frustrated.
This all re-surged tonight after playing Pillars of Eternity all day, and reaching one quest-line in particular that was handled very badly and stuck out like a sore thumb. It frustrated me, because not only did I know I could have fixed the problems in a non-interactive medium, I also have the know-how to construct a satisfactory resolution in a game with branching dialog trees.
The rest of the game is amazing so far, but this one quest leaves a bad taste in my mouth and the possible resolutions stick out as being grossly restrictive compared to other minor quest-lines.
If anyone feels like making a game and needs someone to write them flavor text or characters, I volunteer.
