Character analysis, ship manefestos, plot speculation! Why is Equius such a <s>precious babby</s> creep? What does a mage of hope do? What happened to the limebloods? Davekat: red, black, pale, or ash? Jade <3<| Nepeta: good ship or BEST ship? What is the real good ending for the Game going to be? Tell me about homestuck, homes.
I have a meta tag on my Tumblr. I FUCKING LOVE META GUYS. Spoiler: imagine your handmaid with equius Someone pointed out that Damara/the Handmaid being the one chosen to be a slave to LE (rather than, say, Kurloz/GHB) actually makes a bit more sense now. I mean, it already made sense given the "careful what you wish for" theme there, but moreso than before. We now know that Lord English (and Doc Scratch) are both part Equius. And who does Equius have a creepy, stalkerish obsession with? Aradia, who happens to look almost identical to Damara. The Equius thing also goes some way to explaining why the hemospectrum as we know it was almost certainly in place even before Condy was around. After all...what was it that Equius viewed as more important than his own life?
Would crazy bloodswap madness be fine here? It's part of how I speculate about the hemospectrum, Alternian and Beforan cultures, and the game.
Dropped this on my tumblr earlier; I feel like a lot of people, when looking at troll society removed from s***b, forget that the whole thing is constructed the way it is to facilitate sgrub happening the way it did. Hence, you know, forgetting that the ancestors are genetically identical to modern trolls (twelve very specific ones). EDIT: Started checking through the notes and I found someone who does not know how paradox clones work.
Shuffling in to ask a monumentally stupid question that is literally only a thing because mad anxiety: is it okay to like the stuff that's super canon-compliant and the stuff that isn't canon-compliant or is based on a muddled understanding of canon so long as it's interesting and gives me ideas? Because I like both splickedylit's thoughts and yours, @Starcrossedsky
I think its okay to like all the headcanons, even the ones that are weird non-canon ones, as long as you acknowledge that they would not make sense in canon? I mean assuming SGRUB never happened on alternia but they still had someone-like-condie on the throne it would have been a legite theory and a very nice mental image
Basically this; I just get fluffed up about "headcanons" that literally can't be canon being treated like some grand new insight on canon. It sets off my spergrage. Of there's acknowledgement that hey, never canon, still cool? No problem.
Oh God same. Especially character headcanons. I will fight anyone who keeps insisting Damara is aromantic okay. (PEOPLE ACTUALLY CLAIM THIS.)
Ok so we have a pass on things that aren't canon compliant so I am going to take that as an opportunity to ramble about bloodswaps. Or something. The way I do it is just shifting everyone up and down a set number of spaces. Classes get retained with the troll and aspects retained with the blood color. So Aradia is always a maid of something and the yellowblood is always the doom player. Because I am the strange Porrim loving weirdo that I am I end up focusing a lot on either the ancestors or the Beforus trolls when I do my stuff and Porrim is typically one of the starting points. One thing I always end up maintaining with all the Porrims is her sense of passion and fighting against rules that she views as unjust. Canon jadeblooded Porrim fights against sexism and particularly in how it manifests socially, politically, and with the hemospectrum. Purpleblooded Porrim meanwhile has ended up as an exceptionally angry religious person. She's very serious about her dumb clown religion. She's also very pissed off about the sexism in the religion. Purple Porrim is the sort of person who can go on extremely long rants and quote scripture and complain about differences in dating. Brown Porrim is different and mostly concerned with how servants, especially female ones, get treated. On Alternia she, as the brownblooded Dolorosa who really needs a different title, ended up being very concerned with slavery and how females were treated. Resulting in her getting in many arguments with the woman she was eventually traded away to and freed by and then became the matesprit of. Given that red Mindfang is troll Muhammad this makes brown Dolly troll Aisha. She does have a very crippling nerve problem while living on Beforus though. It does get addressed during the game, but prior to that Porrim is a very difficult person who is often contrary just because she's nervous and needs some way not to be. So what political inclinations she has often get buried under her just rebelling for the sake of it. Burgundy Porrim meanwhile is obsessed with martyrs and the concept of martyrdom. She has a particular fondness for her ancestor solely because of that, actually. While she does like martyrs just in general and fangirls them, she has a great fondness for ones who die in the name of social rights. She also has a vague and silly desire to maybe end up as one herself (in a way she does). God those people who break rules and die for it are so cool! Red Porrim I remain undecided upon for the most part. Her Alternian counterpart does end up as the troll Buddha though, which I will probably backwards engineer into the teen troll Buddha. She might end up in some sort of "Fuck our culture's completely bullshit cosmology" camp along with a "Fuck our hemocaste" camp. Like the Buddha! But younger and also an alien!
That is really cool. I love the way you do bloodswaps and how being under the influence of different aspects changes a character.
I really want to believe it was for the more practical reason of her time-traveling abilities being useful to someone who a) needs to tweak the whole timeline and b) sucks at thinking linearly anyway. Mostly because i tend to see the equius/aradia thing as more of an "i dont get why this is boundary violating" thing than a "i dont care you have boundaries" thing, from a kid who has trouble understanding those anyway and is navigating from some severely fucked up cultural rules most other people have mostly rejected for being fucked up. I think Equius spends a lot of time and personal sacrifice trying to do the Right Thing without having any idea what that actually is and ends up doing shit that is indistinguishable from the outside from just straight up being an asshole.
Eeehhh, I've honestly always been deeply disturbed by his treatment if Aradia--to the extent that I can honestly say the ship is a trigger. Personal experience with a romantically/sexually obsessed stalker and all that. I might be projecting, but I've never picked up a genuine Not Getting It vibe from him, and I don't think it's just a highblood thing either. It just all hits super close to home.
Thats totally fair. This sounds like probably a fair amount of person experience coloring how we read actions from both sides, cause ive done my share of being a dick cause i was proceeding from rules that were actually bad rules, esp when I was really young, and am a total equius stan anyway. I hope you're not in that situation anymore though, and hope you stay safe<3
Okay so I have this thing about characters in different universes being treated like different characters. This started in my old fandom, where a traumatic event turned a character from, well, one character, into a new character. (The Meta, from Red vs. Blue, who is post-Maine. They are not the same, you fucks. Neither is Dr. Church/the Alpha/Epsilon. You fucks.) I also think some of the newest Homestuck shit is the most ridiculous I've ever seen. And I've seen some shit. Like, this is just. Why. There's no reason for this. It invites over-reading. This is a webcomic where there's a hammer called Wrinklefucker. I'm pretty sure whatever meta we come up with, Hussie's just sitting there whittling his dick and laughing. That being said, I have so much shipping meta my brain is pretty much spilling it out of my ears. Mostly it's because I ship Kanaya<>/<3<Gamzee, which I'm pretty sure makes me the garbage can instead of just garbage. Rationale: the blood potions. Kanaya's metaphorically a drug user. So is Gamzee. They could fuck each other up so delightfully. It's like a supplier/user relationship and it's so dirty and nasty and gross. Also I headcanon Gamzee as trans and Kanaya as yonisexual, so don't you dare fucking go "why did you put my dear lesbian flower Kanaya in a gross het relationship." I mean, it's a gross relationship, but not because it's het. I also ship Cronus/Mituna, but in my 'verse, which is post-game and where Mituna's brain damage isn't a thing. Mituna's still, y'know, an asshole. And Cronus is still, y'know, so desperate for acceptance that he's willing to violate boundaries to get it. Except now the gross powerplay dynamics are in the exact opposite direction, because Mituna has his agency back and genuinely likes messing with Cronus by rejecting his advances and making him feel like shit. And Cronus fucking likes it and gives his hearty consent to it. Because Cronus is a sick shit who gets off on powerplay and power imbalances, and he's never had the tables turned on him quite like this, especially in a relationship where they were decidedly the other way for a very long time. @pixels for homestuck trash 2k16 who else is with me We'll not even go into how hard I ship the fucked-up garbage pile that is cronkritunaportula. Cronus. Kankri. Mituna. Porrim. Latula. Put them all together. MAGNIFICENT. *puts parsley on top* Other meta: here here here, here, here, here, and here here here here here here here here, here, here, and here here here here here here here plus assorted shipping meta
I kinda still am in the situation. He's still not in jail and continues to tweet creepy shit about me. HE CALLS ME HIS WIFE. I'm SCARED of this guy. Look up Nick Bate. That's him. Sorry, off-topic, but it's honestly the ONLY way I can read Equius, as someone who KNOWS what he's doing is fucked up and awful and doesn't care, because why should Aradia's thoughts matter am I right??
I'm really super fond of bloodswapping. I get why other people aren't, but one of my favorite things about Homestuck is that it does handle the question of what would happen if people grew up under different circumstances and so on. If we look at both Aranea and Mindfang we do notice a variety of similarities in how they think and act. There is a difference between the two though. Aranea and Mindfang are the same person in some cosmic sense, but due to how they lived they're two entirely separate people. Bloodswaps are that in a different fashion. So what if Aranea didn't grow up with her mind powers or with her privileges as a ceruleanblood? What if she was actually a horrible mutant and a pariah just for the sin of daring to exist? Aranea's a very self righteous person. She strongly believes that she is right and what she knows can help, and part of how she goes about it I think is her upbringing, her powers, and how society perceives people in her caste and with her powers. Red Aranea keeps that self righteousness and desire to help, but it's fundamentally different because it has to be. Instead Aranea has a huge inferiority complex that she throws about and tries to use to bully her way through conversations. She HAS to know what's best for the underprivileged because she herself is severely underprivileged. She HAS to know what's best for the disabled because she herself is epileptic. And so on. Stuck in her society as she was with her lusus Aranea never really had to go through many severe hardships, where as she damn sure did on Alternia. Which like with the actual Muhammad taught her humility as well as how to be a clever and charming little shit. And on that note Aranea and Mindfang strike me very much as people who are ruthless. They have things they want and by god they are going to get those things even if the methods are unpleasant. While red Aranea just bullies her way about the world and abuses her position, red Mindfang takes a different more overt path in her ruthlessness. The goal is to set up a community of people separate from the Empire and then, over time, destroy the Empire. They can't at all take chances with safety early on, so early on there is a very strict policy of "Join our cause or die". One that, if she's present, she carries out herself. Can't have people telling the Empire about how they work and where they go after all. She views this a sad thing and a practice to die out once their position is secured. Until then though they are very much in danger of being wiped out. Think of interpretations and the history of Surat An-Nisa 4:89-90, basically. In terms of where my exact inspiration with how she went about it. Mindfang is still willing to entirely fuck your shit up if she has to. The key words are "if she has to" and the fact that she is a rather principled woman who is working towards a peaceful nation where people aren't starving to death because of recurrent famines (the Alternian Empire basically ends up as the troll USSR/communist People's Republic of China in this version of the events). EDIT BECAUSE SHIPPING TRASH: I could talk all day about my various ships of the unhealthy variety. Things like Porrim<3Aranea and Mindfang<3Dolorosa are how I deal with personal shit I've gone through and just. Urgh. The best love stories are the ones that are also horror stories.
I'm also princex of AUs. I had a whole theory of who would livestream what if they were Twitchers. My entire blog is set up around an "everything is poly and nothing hurts" college AU. I also think humanstuck Vriska is really interesting. Vristav. Common pairing, right? I ship it so fucked up. Like, constant mind control wars, vacillating so rapidly it'll change with every beat of their pumpbiscuit, Vriska having a dumb crush on this boy and this boy fucking her up with it and breaking the mattress with her and sflkjsdflkjsf. Somehow, if it's not a rarepair, I've found an interpretation for it that's not... widely-accepted fanon. I could scream all day about my ships if people let me. I don't know if it counts as a sperg but it's something I like to think about a lot.
well vristav being shipped all flowers and love gives me the creeps because NO OH MY GOD did they not UNDERSTAND the dynamic in canon or? I kinda dig that your tavros gives back as good as he gets apparently. Oh and while we are talking about rarepairs. I have a massive softspot for arranged-moirailegeance GamFef. I know its weird. Just THINK about either them braiding each other's hair all sweetly OR enabling eachother in their worst tendencies and steamrolling everyone else. I am currently writing post-game pale erisol because of that one post by roachpatrol. The one about eridan and sollux ending up pale because of their time as a sprite during the game. Yeah. (why do I love breaking eridan so much hhhh) I'm really into pale and ashen dynamics, especially ashen because canon kinda sweeps over it, we never see any grand romantic gestures in an ashen relationship and the ones we even get to see don't seem exactly serendipitous, more kind of by-necessity than anything else. I wonder if I could attempt a moirailegeance challenge where I write all the possible troll pale pairs in short little oneshots as a sort fo character exploration? But then I never finished the RoseTez 'Let's make a pale bondage porn flick' thing oops
