Incidentally, what the hell is this guy doing as a Flash villain? He should be devastating the entire Green Lantern Corps singlehandedly.
Btw, since my Hatman joke was a poorly executed reference to this excellent post, I feel like I should put it here:
judging by, every single thing that happens on this show: barry can not, in fact, run fast enough to escape his emotional problems. if he could then maybe the romantic subplots would be less terrible
I haven't watched very much Arrow, so I can't really compare--but the poorly written romantic drama is by far the weakest part of the show. (ok, maybe that's the science, but unlike blue it doesn't bother me too much : P) I assume Arrow ALSO has those dumb romantic problems that are caused by "oh no, I can't tell me crush and/or SO that I'm a superhero bc i have to protect them, even though this inevitably causes more problems", which keeps happening on The Flash and it is never not terrible.
On the Flash the romantic problems are a) the aforementioned secret identity drama b) many relationships seem to run on Default Heterosexuality Energy rather than any actual connection and so I don't really connect to them c) Barry has an intense crush on his BFF/foster sister, who is currently uninterested in him, and he KEEPS BRINGING IT UP, regardless of whether she, ex., currently has a boyfriend. c) at least has settled into a comfortable zone where they're actually just adorable BFFs, but it was awkward enough while it was happening that it gets included anyway.
In Arrow it's b) + Oliver has some sexual tension with practically every female character except his family members + it presents pretty much every new person he sleeps with as THIS PASSIONATE ROMANCE HE'S DEEPLY INVESTED IN. Like, guys. You can't have your cake and eat it too, here. If you're going to write him as someone who gets way attached really quickly, at least admit that's how you're writing him, and if you're going to have him be really promiscuous, let sex be less of a Big Deal sometimes.
Related to the Flash but unrelated to bad science: I wrote a fic! I cannot believe the first thing I posted on ao3 is for a show where a guy freezes a grid of lasers with an ice gun and then shatters them
me on skype: why .. ok the BIGGEST remaining plot hole is that sometimes time travel makes there be a doppelgänger and sometimes it does the dofp consciousness replacement thing ... me: I can't believe he's trying to me: SOLVE THE PLOT EARLIer [context: on a STEALTH TIME TRAVEL MISSION where he was trying to briefly replace his past self to talk to someone without, this is the key, WITHOUT changing the timeline] me: YOU IDIOT!!! WHY ARE YOU SO BAD AT TIME TRAVEL!!!!!!! me: HE JUST LIKE?? DOES HE NOT GET IT me: DOES HE JUST NOT GET TIME TRAVEL?? me: he's like a DOG WITH A TREAT me: you just put a problem in front of him me: and he doesn't have the willpower to resist solving it *interjections by @luckydicekirby not included
To be fair, in your fandom, the timeline has a bit more elasticity and isn't likely to be destroyed or send TIME WRAITHS after you if you time travel badly. :P
holy shit... Barry LIED... CONVINCINGLY... this is a completely new development in all of the flash... he lied in a deadpan and convincing way... apparently this is just my liveblogging thread now
My brother's been watching the flash and I'll pop in at random times, and I've learned two things: 1. Cisco is VERY GOOD I LOVE HIM and 2. Are they just locking the villains in holes. Do they get fed, are there beds or toilets in there? Are they just Schroedinger's bad guys now???
i love cisco!!!! i haven't been updating this thread because after they declared that Spoiler they had to BUILD A NEW PARTICLE ACCELERATOR and BREAK IT ON PURPOSE so barry could get his powers back i was overcome by the silliness and quit. :P but someday i'll pick it back up, probably.
