Anecdata: when im on my period i get the compulsion to kidnap babies. Rationally i am like 'i dont even want a baby' but my uterus is like U WANT THAT BABY PICK IT UP AND RUN

anyway maybe some time in march pancho's coat pocket starts yipping and she is like 'IM SORRY IT WAS SO FLUFFY I COULDNT STOP' and bel has to sit down and giggle and that is how they get a puppy

 

What if Pancho shows up with dog in tow like 'Bel likes dogs. Bel knows I have a dog. I will bring a dog and cheer him up. His dog and my dog can be friends if we introduce them carefully.'

And erskin like, jumps out of his fuckin skin at SUDDENLY DOG.

Actually that might be an interesting way for beans to be spilled. Erskin literally jumps out of his skin and into fur at a bad shock and dashes under Bel's bed, and then Pancho is like 'so, that wasn't normal.'

 

how well behaved is logan? does she rush, is she pushy, would she crowd someone to get to know them? i have met very few dogs that don't get excited and pushy when they wanna meet someone, so i don't think this would reflect badly on pancho. hell, if logan's been with pancho's mom, maybe pancho's working on logan's manners, but it's not something to be fixed in a weekend.

 

Let's say Aspera's wandered into town to take in the local color and have some cafe snacks.

Also I don't know if anyone caught Logan here, I'm guessing all humans in the area would try but if she follows Erskin up into his room he can scream and bite her nose.

 

btw what i've been doing with dog gender is, spayed/neutered dogs are 'its' even if humans keep track of which organs got removed. i'm sure it's totally observable whether the dog's a boy or girl, in smell and whether or not they got outside plumbing, but i think to erskin it wouldn't matter the way the sex of a dog that can have sex would. it'd be like calling someone who was bald a blond or brunet.

 

Not that Erskin's particularly superior about his subspecies, but he's gonna sulk if Pancho gets Bel's strain and he has to trot along after TWO hulks.

 

Btw i was thinking pancho could get mortally wounded, and then bel could give her the infection to save her, so she'd be sturdy enough to survive.

 

correction on erskin's shape right now: he'd be built lean, and i'm sure bel would appreciate him looking that way most, but erskin's has been stuffing himself like a squirrel for the last 2-3 months in preparation for a winter in the arctic circle as a southern-states sort of canid, so i think he'd have put on at least some amount of chub. if he had a fat layer thin enough for all his abs to be visible, at this point, he'd be freaking out— he doesn't want to look like a sports model, he wants to not die of hypothermia outside anchorage.

i think with backpacking, Bel was hiking bipedally, carrying a load, and eating a lot of, or even mostly, meat. under those circumstances a human would definitely stay lean and fit, right? meanwhile erskin was going at a very easy pace for a wolf, not carrying much of anything, and getting at least 2-5 lb a day, which is somewhere between 'enough' and 'a lot'. plus the birds and rodents would have been fat, for winter, and his own body would be like 'it's getting cold, time to increase fur and fat production'. i think he could have very easily kept gaining weight the duration of the hike.
