Oh man the Bartimaeus trilogy was really good, I wish I'd bought the books instead of checking them out of the library. It's harder to reread things when you don't own them. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person still banging pots and pans in the Tithe fandom anymore, but I still keep refreshing ff.n and ao3 in hope. I know I'm not the only person in the Tairen Soul fandom because her website has its own forums, but I also know I'm the only one on tumblr at this point. The Mercy Thompson fandom is so small too, and it makes me sadface. I ran into a Ben roleplayer a few years back, and it made my week.
I'm pretty sure everyone who reads the books is in the anti-fandom for the cover art. How do you miss the point that bad. Have you been reading the Alpha and Omega series at all? Because that's definitely one to check out, and I think after River Marked there's some shit that goes down in Fair Game that's very relevant to the next couple books.
Re: cover art: Iron Kissed is the worst. Like, dear god, if there was ONE book in the series they absolutely should not have turned the MC into a sex doll on the cover of... And no, I haven't. I should probably reread them and get caught up.
Yeah, I'd say def catch up. The original short story isn't super vital (though if you can't find a copy of On The Prowl I could see about scanning it, since it's not hugely long) but the second and third actual novels are pretty key towards setting up some of the political back and forth that gets glossed over in the main series. It's also primarily in third person, switching POV between Charles and Anna, so that's fun. edit: Apparently she released an anthology of all her previous short stories + some new ones, so I know what I'm getting myself as a belated birthday present. And yeah, of all the covers, that one is definitely the worst in context. Especially given the location of the image and everything, it's like, c'mon guys... You can do better, I'm sure of it. :(
@unknownanonymous @garden @PRelations Omg more people who've read the Bartimaeus books, I'm so happy. Also, I have to ask: have you read the prequel book, Ring of Solomon? Because apparently lots of people who're into the trilogy haven't even heard of it, and it's so good.
@PRelations It's really good! It's set before Bart met Ptolemy, so if you ever wondered how their relationship changed his character, Ring of Solomon's your answer!
Wait. Wait wait waaaait. I MAY HAVE READ THIS AFTER ALL. It's definitely flicking a couple switches in my head. I guess there's nothing for it but to read it again and make sure. :P
I read the Corwin books AGES ago, but I unfortunately don't remember most of the character details, just some of the plot twists and the general setting.
man those books are my JAM, even tho theyre the Stereotypical White Male Power Fantasy(tm) on the part of the author like most of his other books
I already made a thread for it long ago, but P.C. Hodgell's Kencyrath series. And Gods, the feeling of being like a desperate street-corner preacher, practically begging for a response.
That small fandom feel when something from your fandom gets big outside. See, that gif of a woman getting hit in the face with hot dogs. Someone actually got that as the Tumblr error/login screen once. And there's a TSW gif that's popular among some witchy/fae/magical nature aesthetic bloggers Also that small fandom feel when your gifs/icons get used by the creators. @Nochi is very familiar with this one :p
An imageset of edited screencaps with text from my incorrect quotes blog has more notes than literally anything else in the tag for my favorite game and this hurts me. People keep tagging it stuff like "what is this from" or mistaking it for real game dialogue when the source is RIGHT THERE IN THE DESCRIPTION and that hurts me too. (The dialogue, while a very accurate summary of an event in-game, is from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.)
