i know there are AT LEAST 3 other people on this forum that played and have fond memories of golden sun. PLEASE TALK ABOUT THOSE MEMORIES WITH ME!!!! my feelings are not at all ancient, because i am a loser who has been playing and replaying these games on and off for years. i have Thoughts. i have Strong Feelings. tell me about your favourite adepts!!! your favourite djinn!!! your least favourite dungeon (read: Air's Rock)!!!! if you have ships, tell me about them. the best part, the worst part, that one boss that you always dreaded, tell me anything. i just wanna talk about these stupid games. look at these things. look at them.
Golden Sun was my jam when I was like. 12? it's been ages, wow. love the soundtrack, this is probably my favorite song
omg... tundaria tower.... i do not have fond memories of tundaria tower, or of the entire damn trident questline, for that matter
speaking of awful dungeons: Ankohl Ruins. and the music wasn't even good enough to make up for it. while Tundaria didn't feel that bad (aside from the travel time to get there), because at least I had something nice to listen to
ALSO, Crossbone Isle was the coolest, most frustrating nonsense ever. I adore it, but the boat method is so ridiculous and weird, I never figured out how to do it that way. ...the boss was a little disappointing though.
crossbone isle omg.... honestly, so much of the extra stuff in golden sun was so convoluted and inexplicable that it's a wonder that anyone discovered them in the first place. also deadbeard was disappointing, yes, but not nearly as disappointing as the treasure he was guarding. :/ like. c'mon. i went through all that for armour that gives me negative resistance?? personally my least favourite boss is and always will be the star wizard. fuckin star wizard and his stupid guardian balls. eta YES ankohl was the WORST
never mind the stupid 'djinn hidden in a random part of the overworld that you'd never go to normally!' that was fucking awful, how did people even find them without looking it up?
I can barely remember this game other than remembering that I got badly stuck on my first attempt at a playthrough and put it aside for like... two years, then tried it again and I loved the hell out of it, then got mad when I got to the ending and it was like I'd only gotten half a game. 8( One of these days I'm going to load up an emulator version and play through again.
@Starcrossedsky I, TOO, AM A DARK DAWN PERSON!!! @Mercury do it, seriously, i HIGHLY RECOMMEND playing it on an emulator. once you have played at 300% speed it is difficult to play it any other way. only downside is that the music gets fucked up. but. high-speed level grinding is a thing of beauty\ ETA yes, wiwaxia's right, if u never played the lost age (which is frankly better than the original and has LOADS more content) you DID only get half a game.
I didn't :/ I did actually search out and download a ROM of it but I think I was just so mad I'd only gotten half a game, and annoyed that I couldn't play it on the go anymore (I didn't have any portable anythings except my GBA at that point) that I couldn't make myself continue on. This is why I won't play older rpgs on anything but an emulator anymore. 8) I'll definitely have to give it another go, because I remember being REALLY into it.
I never got to play the first one, I had to look up savecodes to start up my Lost Age game with so that I didn't end up forced to miss things. I love games like that with the figuring out and the puzzles and the skills to use on things and just yes! And then Dark Dawn was kind of a disappointment to me, like I get that it's neat to see what people are up to after their adventures are over, and what their kids are up to? But the only character I really ended up caring about and wanting more of from it was werewolf girl, like it was her story really? And there's all these other characters running around being the viewpoint characters and I wanted to have her be the main playable character as well as the main story character, if that makes sense. But anyway, yes fat cute djinns and action-puzzly bits!
possibly controversial opinion: Venus Lighthouse > Mars > Mercury > Jupiter. (excluding the bosses at the end of each, I'm ranking them just based on lighthouse content.) Jupiter Lighthouse had such tedious puzzles.
i still experience mild flashes of rage when i think about the hovering part you need to get through to get to the ledge with phaeton's blade on it. you had to time it juuust right. another least-favourite puzzle: the ridiculous light beams you needed to shine on the serpent in gaia rock. just. fuck that serpent. fuck that puzzle.
And didn't Jupiter have this one stupid teleport-y thing that could set you way back if you took it by accident? I think I'm remembering that right, and if so, it was terrible.
it absolutely did. 'better check where this one goes,' i thought, foolishly. 'maybe i missed something important.'
