ok i havent watched TFP but i have seen screenshots through tumblr osmosis and thats the only version of knockout i'm familiar with and i just gotta say. you know what, there was no need to make the robot hot but they did it anyway. it was unnecessary, and now i have officially gone on the record as having called a cartoon robot hot. it's a dark day indeed.
That robot was so hot they brought him into a new universe just so they could make him hotter and have his boyfriend be alive and be robot married to him. (Prime is on netflix it is gooood waaattch)
unrelated to hot gay knock out but ---- i have been re-reading mtmte with a better understanding of who's who and. good LORD this is the gayest mainstream comic i've ever heard of?? and i read young avengers for a while, so i'm coming from a pretty gay baseline. and i mean it MAKES SENSE, cause cybertronians seem to identify as male as a general rule, and it's established that they do the whole romance thing, so.... it makes literally no sense for them all to be robot-straight. but it's SO STRANGE (and wonderful) to have a writer actually, intentionally make a comic super gay??? like. i can think of 7 characters off the top of my head that are explicitly or very strongly implied to be not-straight, and i'm sure there are more. that's more than almost any piece of mainstream media i'm aware of. is this.... is this what being pandered to feels like??? is this how straight dudes feel all the time??? it's amazing. anyway. i just re-read issues 47-49 for the nth time, and if cygate doesn't get #confirmed in 50, i might weep. ETA a typo fix
Not only is it super gay, but it's super gay in a way that few other narratives can be, because it's not like they're "overrepresenting" a gay subset of a larger population; it's just that for some reason there are no more female Cybertronians other than Arcee. So it's not like there even can be wives and girlfriends in the background, and it's not like the authors have to claim that queer people band together and that we've stumbled upon one such cluster. Nope, Cybertronians are gay because there's nothing else to be. Take that, "realism". The sexism of the 80s canon has made everyone gay, which ends up with really problematic intersections in real life but has great results here.
I love that instead of retconning 'femmes' in, they were just like. "And there is a whole planet of cybertronians that use the 'she' pronoun and are also super gay".
ngl i shrieked a tiny bit when i realized that there was basically a lesbian robot planet. THANK GOODNESS!!! thank goodness for an entire planet of lesbian robots.

Spoiler: appropriate use of spoiler tags for once that would make me so fucking happy tbh... the rodpod crew is basically just a collection of my favs, so there's no one i'd really miss from the lost light. it's a good mix of people, too. sciencey types, fighty types, medical types, a cat. but i'm still a tiiiiny bit hopeful for a 2x mutiny combo. we don't see perceptor or thunderclash in the crowd of ~20 that getaway calls 'everyone'. hopefully more than 15 people rejected the idea of a coup. idk. i hope. i'm also worried about what this means for drift and ratchet, assuming we get them back at some point. man this all sounds a lot calmer than i'm actually feeling, in reality i'm gently vibrating and periodically smacking my own face to deal with MY FEELINGS (i can't fucking believe riptide is on getaway's side. what the fuck happened to his bonding with ravage??? did their game of fuck marry kill mean nothing to him??? is this because megatron didn't give him a passing grade?????)
