I enjoyed the Lorax movie (I don't think it was the best thing since sliced bread and would have preferred many changes to the way it was handled myself but whatever)

    Paperback bodice-rippers.

The really silly ones with comedic relief, adorable characters, a half-assed attempted murder plot thrown in for drama and a spirited, spunky heroine who brings the brooding love interest down to his knees. Bonus points if either of them finds themselves or finds out that love is all they were missing in life. These bring me so much joy. Problem is: I'm a literature student and my classmates usually compensate for not being particularly well-read by being obnoxiously sanctimoniuos about how The Classics are superior. So I literally can't show up to college with those kinds of books. I once went all alone to a feminist conference in another state and all I took with me were bodice-rippers, and it was fucking horrible because when I got to the college I realized "shit, the other people here are gonna maul me if they see me open "A Duke Of My Own" in the middle of their highbrow feminist shinding".

Oh shit I realize one thing I'm actually ashamed/afraid of is me actually liking the work of Karl Lagerfeld.
Like listen. He is a humongous douche and obnoxiously entitled sexist motherfucker with an ego the size of the eiffeltower and his shitty frenchisms can go die in a corner.
but the clothes he designs for chanel I could DIE for.
His PHOTOGRAPHY WORK IS SO GREAT.
I literally have not been able to read the special the German vogue ran on him yet because I study gender studies so like big times feminist central and a) the Vogue is like the satanic bible, b) Karl Lagerfeld is the feminist antichrist
and considering the fucking magazine cost more than five bucks I'd appreciate it if no one burned it in front of me because ~politics~

Oh yeah, fashion. Another thing that I´m not allowed to like because I´m a bad feminist then.

#I admit I really really don´t like most Chanel stuff, but that´s because I don´t find it aestetically pleasing, and that´s just my opinion.

No that's totally fine I'm not really into chanel myself just chanel by Lagerfeld apparently. Actually more an Alexander McQueen and Dolce&Gabbana kinda kid myself because I'm forever fae aesthetic oops
But yeah I feel guilty over my hyperfemme phases. Like sometimes I just need to wear princess dresses and cutesy frilly stuff I'm still genderqueer and still a feminist leave me the heck alone.

Hmm... makeup thread, fashion thread, maybe a femme thread as well? I´m quite partial to Versace, but I often just like bits and peices from various designers.

    I watch Lisa Lampanelli.

    I laugh at the jokes.

I don't tell anyone about this, because I don't want tomatoes thrown at my head.

So i just saw someone whose opinions I respect (and thus also trips the loyalty thing I mentioned upthread) complaining about the latest Homestuck update and specifically worrying that it might indicate that the "Vriska fixes everything" might get played completely straight, and that that would be a lazy way to wrap up the story, and expressing general concern/disappointment for the quality of the end of the story.

Which, I mean, I hope that gets addressed too, but now I feel awful for liking the update and wanting to like the update and wanting to not worry about the quality of the story going forward, so I'm just... writhing around in emotional agony.

Sympathy like. And fwiw it would be very OOC for Hussie to pull a boring 'Vriska fixes everything the end' on us, so I wouldn't worry too much about that

I mean yeah, and part of it is that I do trust him to bring us home well, but I just don't want to worry about it and just enjoy the ride. :/

Oh gosh sorry for not thanking for the tag sooner.
Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and a adorable little game called Cat Goes Fishing.
Playing with play-doh, boxes, sand pits, anything regarded as childish.
    Fashion
    Age of Ultron, now >.<
    Writing? Everyone NOW in my life supports me, and the person who wrecked it for me also did - but it was all about money. Don't write anything unless you intend to sell it, that kind of thing. I just want to write amazing porn ;n;

    An admirable goal!

More thoughts on my little flipout up there:
this isn't the first time this has happened reading said person's stuff and I feel like maybe I should avoid it but also they seem cool and have a lot of good thinky thoughts, so :?

Maybe look for stuff you can blacklist, like specific phrases? If they have a tag they use for those posts that might be a good call.
I'm terrible at avoiding things I know are bad for me, because I have a very strong need to Know What Is Happening, which is why I keep checking up on the circular file >.<

See, this is the bit where not actually having a tumblr bites me in the ass (despite being a net positive for my mental health, I think)
And god, yes, that so much. Plus completionism and skinnerboxing like a motherfucker when I'm trying to avoid something.

Okay here have my list of things that I have managed to make myself feel bad for liking:
    • Sherlock
    • Specifically, shipping JohnLock really hard
    • Supernatural
    • Specifically, having a tendency to ship Wincestiel
    • SuperWhoLock
    • The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode
    • DragonRiders of Pern
    • Karkat (for the reason that he is apparently 'too popular' or something)
    • Wheatley (ditto above)
    • Fluffy fanfic (especially if it might be mildly OOC as a result, though I actually dislike heavily OOC stuff)
    • Romans
    • Simple black-and-white morality in fiction (not always, but sometimes it's just really comforting to know exactly who's Good and who's Bad, okay?)
    • David Eddings' books
    • China dolls (you know, the big ones with fancy hair and clothes that a lot of people seem to find either creepy or risible)
    • Having characters who are pretty, feminine boys in skirts
    • Tending to get more attached to male characters
    • Shipping in general
    • Pacific Rim for the reason that it has cool characters and giant robots punching monsters
    • Pacific Rim in general
    • Probably other stuff, it comes and it goes
I also feel bad for not liking:
    • Elementary (I've never watched it. I'm sure it's a great show, but I just. Kind of don't really want to watch it, for some muddled and probably not-very-good reasons)
    • Steven Universe (ditto above)
    • Dark And Edgy stuff
    • Bad endings
    • Stuff with fucked-up relationships in it
    • Pacific Rim because of its apparent Progressiveness
    • The way Hussie writes half his characters off as jokes
    • Rose, Clara and River Song from Doctor Who
Also @Wiwaxia I feel you so hard on seeing people I admire criticising a thing and instantly feeling terribad for not being inclined to criticise it so much myself. It's awful and it makes me feel off for ages afterwards.

Honestly, I didn't think Pacific Rim was that progressive, and even if it was, you're entitled not to like something. Especially something that's basically giant robots pounding giant monsters. It got boring pretty fast :P

    @Emma
Oh, I like Pacific Rim! I like it because it's giant robots punching monsters, and because I enjoyed the characters. But sometimes I feel like I ought to enjoy it because it's supposed to be 'progressive'. I actually have zero opinion really on whether it's 'progressive' or not. I just like giant robots punching monsters. But then I feel shallow, because, well, like you said, just robots punching monsters ought to get boring fast.

  18. Emma

    Emma Your resident resident

Well, not if you like giant robots punching giant monsters! Then of course it's not boring!

It's just not something I really like. I was expecting a bit more plot beyond people punching things :P

Don't feel shallow for things you like.

@TwoBrokenMirrors High five! I don't really know if Pacific Rim is progressive (I see people saying it is, I see people saying it's not, I gather that reality is more complicated than people's perceptions of reality?) but I am SO THERE for giant robots punching giant monsters. So there, in fact, that all of the meta and stuff about romance that showed up on Tumblr after it came out was a surprise to me; I uh, didn't really notice most of that stuff.

So, I lean towards the "is progressive" camp but that doesn´t change the fact that giant robots and giant monsters are awesome. And I don´t think you can like something wrong.

Also, I too dislike Hussie making jokes out of his characters, though I don´t feel too bad about it.
I do feel bad for not liking Steven Universe, but that particular art style makes me want to ...unpleasant eye horror metaphor here. (No I don´t like Gravitiy Falls or Adventure Time either. Same reason)

Also because fliparounds are fun, I kinda feel guilty for liking dark gritty edgy stuff. I purrfur no bad endings but i do like dystopias, and appearantly those are pretentious.
