I'm so sensitive to mixing/monitoring issues now. Listening to the pipe organ at the New Years festival yesterday was just "yes, there's power in those 32' pipes, but that whole octave is full of mud. If only you could EQ a church."

Let me just say: listening to a recording of your own voice is SO WEIRD. Seriously. :P

As far as I can tell, I am not off-key, but to my ears, I don't sound very good either. Which is stupid ofcourse, because no one sounds like Adele after two months of singing lessons. Maybe I just need to listen to myself more :P

listening to yourself never stops being weird, as far as I can tell.

...huh. I've found that as I study more technique, recordings of my voice get closer to what I hear in my head. But maybe I'm just getting used to it because I record myself a lot to listen back.

lol - lucky! my technique is taking a turn for Uncharted Territory this year, and so I'm right back into "what the hell is this" land.

I just listened to a track recorded by a mezzo I know who's my age and she's sounding better than me. She's just gotten into the Royal Scottish Conservatoire, i.e. she didn't get a place at any of the London music colleges that I want to go to. Dark cloud of self-doubt descends u_u

Perhaps it just means that I need more practice at singing :P Like I said, noone sings like Adele after two months :P

Next week we're starting with this song: (because it's catchy and I like it!)

This is rapidly turning into the 'Emma talks about her singing lessons thread' :P I caught every single cold that went around the children's ward for the past two weeks. My throat is sort of sore (sometimes yes, sometimes no) and pretty irritated. So I didn't want to do high notes this week. So we did low :) This song:

(how cool are all the pictures and home videos?)

Turns out I can actually go half a note lower than my teacher, and she was pretty impressed. We tested my range down (not up, perhaps for next time) and it was nice :) When I have to sing notes that are played for me, somehow I do it correctly, but I actually don't have a clue what I am doing. I figure that's a part of my autism :P

Maybe I'll post a recording of part of what I sang this weekend...

So when a monk does it it's cool, but when I do that in the middle of lit class I get in trouble? Bah.

I played the recorder and was passable at it, but I sort of stopped. Should probably pick it up again, though.
Fun fact: I can't read notes and I'm near tone deaf, but I love to sing. At some point I was in two choirs (school choir and church choir)

    ...
I want to start singing again. This time with professional lessons. (Mom was always harping on how alto is such a nicer tone range, so even though my choir leader suggested I join the sopranos (which were like 2/3rds of the choir), I joined the altos. And then accidentally sang soprano because the sopranos were SO LOUD and the altos got like one run of solo practice and I couldn't hear the other altos singing. And then there was passive aggressive sniping. Ehm, yeah. School choirs. Baggage.)

I tried playing keyboard in grade school, but dropped out of the club after we started adding the left hand, because I can't coordinate that .._.."

(My way of playing/singing is note, this is that note which translates to this grip/vocal chord thing, but this is that sound/melody which has these movements associated with them)

Currently I'm working with Mario Paint Composer. This here is something @IvyLB and I cooked up together. Ives does harmonics magic. They're awesome.

I was this close to suggest ASP - Duett, but that's a pretty dark song. ASP - Mein Herz erkennt dich immer is better in that regard. Same with ASP - Zaubererbruder.
welp those are all german and by asp

I think I'm going to apply for my uni "concerto competition" next year, which basically just means an audition in front of a panel. Winner gets to solo a concerto with the symphony orchestra. That...would be epic.
