i'm now wondering what the Gem equivalent of jesus would be like (i mean, if steven isn't the Gem equivalent of jesus)
the diamonds are the "gem matriarchs" that are considered totally flawless, most likely represent certain ideals in gem culture, and gems are created for and live to serve them (at least according to Peridot, who was made for Yellow Diamond.) so I don't think gem culture has a "jesus figure" or any single messianic figure. The four diamonds are basically seen as goddesses, and they make up the gem pantheon. it's possible though that by the end of the series Steven would become a messianic figure to the gems; depending on how the series plays out and what kind of impact, of any, he has on homeworld culture.

I did too! I don't remember much of it though, just that it involved Lapis and Jasper speaking of Lapis, Lauren Zuke made a playlist for songs that remind her of Lapis/she likes to listen to while drawing her.

Man, at this point I'm gonna get like actually upset if Lapis isn't a gross asshole. I think I've been following this one artist for too long, and they like their Lapis hedonistic and unapologetic, and some part of me is just super into that as a concept. It's a good contrast. Like, "mysterious" and "otherworldy" are very "what the viewer sees/wants" kinda deals, but Lapis being a fucking nasty jerkoff tastes like refusing to be what anyone wants, and I like that. I dunno, haha. Having trouble getting this across, I think.

I mean, if nothing else the storyboard artists and the previews we've seen seem to support Asshole Lapis, so have hope! I like to think of Lapis being rude as shit by virtue of forgetting how 2 compassion because trauma, and learning that people other than Steven and herself deserve consideration and kindness being a large part of her character arc. Teaching her how to trust again (and the parallel of earning Jaspar's trust in the first place) would be a great way to bring them both in, and a good way for the Crewniverse to show kids that hi, yes, that lonely angry dick of a kid in the corner can be hurting too.
see this is why i do at least love the stuff i do see in fandom with lapis being an asshole, because i identify so hard with the losing ability to compassion via trauma. just damn it assholeish shitty lapis is my aesthetic.

you know I was just thinking today that one reason why I'm not nearly as dysphoric about my body as I used to be (I still hate the way I look in pictures and would like to set photos of myself people put on facebook on fire) is because of all the diverse bodies in steven universe? It's not even a question if these characters are pretty. It's not "oh she's pretty even though she's fat." or "she's pretty because she has curves" (because even then a lot of the "curvy and beautiful" people don't have my body type) these diverse bodies are just there and they are all equally valid and beautiful and take any character and their fanbase celebrates them and for a lot of characters that also means people think they are pretty hot? and it's really nice and I think it helped me finally divorce myself from this internal mental image where I have to be this body type and size and see that hey, my body type is pretty great too! I can work with this!
