Any fellow players of King of Dragon Pass? Anyone manage to win? Anyone purposeful kill off their tribe when the men slept with the elves for the FIFTH TIME. Have a bit of a wiki summary! It's sort of a strategy role playing game, sort of like Civ but less control. Lots of RNG. Fun and frustrating and set in the HeroQuest (no not that one) universe. Less Dragons than you might think and your rewarded for thinking less like a modern person and more like the fantasy cultural.
I have played it and my Matesprit plays it! There's an iPad app for it now, even. And confirmed that you definitely get rewarded for thinking like the fantasy culture (which is based off of vikings, I think). I find it really neat that you can sue ghosts for haunting you and, sometimes, bribe them into going and haunting someone else entirely. Also, it is always always worth it to have a Trickster on your ring, because this gives you more magic to work with each year. Just...be careful with listening to their advice.
I tend to think of the Trickster on my rings as having Loki on staff. He'll have good idea sometimes, and really terrible advise but funny and suggestions others. I've never even gotten close to end game sadly and the two lpers I watched play it got close but 'lost' in the end. Fun but hard. I have the GOG version which is more true to the original version, I believe the steam/app store releases have some things changed a little and at least options to put magic into taken away completely.
Accurate, although somewhat more complex. Everyone in the game worships one deity or another, and some of them are priests/priestesses for that deity. Tricksters are kinda-sorta avatars of the trickster deity. This comes with a cost, which is that they must routinely screw over their own clan. Which means that no one really trusts Tricksters - which means that really bad things tend to happen to kids who are found out to be Tricksters, unless the clan chief places the kid under their protection, in which case all the bad stuff that the Trickster does must be paid for by the chief. The clan chief can only protect one Trickster at any given time, and it's suggested that most Trickster kids tend to run off for their own survival if there's already another Trickster in the clan. So the Trickster can't give you straight advice, most of the time. What you can do is check if the other members of the ring are saying something similar, and keep an eye on what the Trickster is saying. (If they're saying that the cows have broos in them, just...get rid of those cows. There aren't always broos, but broos are so incredibly awful that it's just better not to risk it.) With regards to the elves - idek, sometimes you just have a bunch of really deeply stupid men in your clan. Like, they know what's going to happen if they do the thing, and then they go and do the thing. After the second or third time it happens, you can usually try to do some rituals to try and prevent it from happening again, but it doesn't always work; sending out an armed force is also an option, but I think that has a significantly worse chance of working. Also, raiding is optimal. No one thinks bad about you if you go raid them for cows and horses (well, not more than "those darn jerks" kind of bad) because cattle raiding is just a thing that happens. What you don't want to do, unless you're on bad terms with another group already, is send war parties out against them...unless they're sending ones against you or you've got proof that they're hiring spirits to vex you, in which case wreck them.
I think the RNG just hates me when it comes to the elves. And oh yeah, I knew the trickster thing was more complicated.
Yeah, the elves and the dryads can decimate you if the RNG decides to dislike you, and there's not really much you can do to prevent it. Also the Crag Troll-Spider...thing has hideously bad odds of success, but if you've picked your clan's ancestral enemy as being trolls? You've gotta go fight her, or your clan in general (and the ancestral spirits specifically, I think) will start to get unhappy with you. The most optimal choice there, I think, is feeding Tricksters to it and hoping that works.
I have seen them, yes. (Like I mentioned - my matesprit plays this more than I do.) I think they're probably worth it for sheer weirdness, if nothing else. No other clan is gonna have dinosaurs, are they?
I've only managed to get them to work in the fields sadly. Have you or your SO gotten to end game on either path?
I think Matesprit got to the end-game, and I theoretically know how to get there, but I've never managed to pull it off before. (I can spoil the 'how do' if you want? But only if you want.)
