@applechime Spoiler: Issue 21 Yeah, that's why I'm not really convinced by the "clan symbol" idea. Can a clan lay claim to an entire moon? I think it must be something bigger than that, although it could be like the Autobot symbol, getting repurposed and claimed by all sorts of groups that don't really align.
Spoiler: Spoilers through 51 I just finished reading all the comics, and hooooo boy I did not see that mutiny coming. Not that much, at least!! I also have no idea what the hell is up with the organics, or what megatron is gonna do, or well mostly anything! But good god I am in this for the long haul hype. Also, I actually teared up a little bit at that ending bit in 50, with them all sadly looking on at the past of the Lost Light. Ugh, I cant wait to see how this all goes.
Spoiler i have SO MANY THOUGHTS about the symbol!!!!!! i rambled about the symbol + grimlock for like a thousand words a few pages ago, and now i want to ramble about the symbol + colours omg. this is my FAVOURITE mystery
Practice, mostly! I can run down the list of the easiest visual cues for the main cast, if you'd like. It's a rough ride at first, but it gets easier faster than you'd expect.
@applechime Spoiler: Issue 21 I have half-formed thoughts about the fact that the giant spark-thing had those five colored spark-things around the symbol when talking to Skids, and then the moon had five thrusters around the symbol, except when the symbol shows up later it's in isolation, so is the five thing significant or is it just a coincidence? Because the number five plays a really big role in Cybertronian religion thanks to the Guiding Hand. The spark-thing could have just been referring to the fact that there were five worlds visible beyond the portal, including the one that Skids was on.
Robot spotting guide: (I'm going to go roughly in order of appearance. also the art in the first issue isn't a terribly close match for most of the rest of the series, which adds a little initial difficulty) Rodimus: red/orange/yellow, which is a fairly rare color scheme as far as the cast goes. He's also pretty spiky Ultra Magnus: blue with white and red highlights, the blue robots are hardest for me, but look for the symmetrical antennae, the big blue monoboob, and the giant white shoulder things. Plus his scale in general is pretty massive Drift: white and red and black, his face looks a bit different in the first issue compared to later, but look for the spiky white finials on his face Ratchet: white and red, look for his big flat chest window and the white frowny-looking helmet adornment Cyclonus: purple and grey, I think he's the only protagonist with that color scheme, but also he has horns and samurai armor Chromedome: orange/yellow/white, look for his kitty ears and the big yellow visor Rewind: mostly black and white, but look for the red face and the blue visor. Also he is tiny Prowl: mostly white, except for the red eyebrows of disapproval. He's not a main character, but he's important to a few of the characters Tailgate: white and blue, literal robot marshmallow. He's also pretty tiny and he's got hips for days Whirl: blue and grey, look for the lack of face, the claws, and the cockpit tiddy. Red Alert: red and white, look for the white semi-visor thing and the giant shoulder rocket and the paranoia Brainstorm: blue and white, but look for the yellow face and eyes, also look for the husband potential Swerve: white and red, look for the overhanging white head thing, also he's tiny and sassy and has giant shoulder wheels Rung: orange and white, very slender build, look for the character who is too pure for this sinful world Skids: blue with white and red highlights, the recognizability problem child. If it's a blue robot you can't place, it's probably Skids. He has yellow eyes where Ultra Magnus has blue, and he's smaller than Ultra Magnus, but I still sometimes slip up with these two Okay, that should cover the important folks. I'll hit the DJD/Scavengers and one or two later introductions in another post momentarily!
Spoiler: 21 i think the colours are significant! the five coloured shapes that the spark-thing puts around the gear correspond to the colours of the planets/moons that surround skids. he is standing on the gray one, and the others are faintly red, yellow, blue, and green. it also reminds me of the funeral in #16. I think there was a colouring error! the five coffins have fires of various colours next to them: one white, one green, one red, and two blue. BUT on the next page, tripodeca's flame is yellow. it could just be that they are very common colours! i like to think otherwise, especially since the gear symbol has been associated so strongly with the knights of Cybertron (and therefore the guiding hand) and the funeral was a religious ceremony. they don't tell us enough about the religious customs for this to be anything but tinhattery on my part, though. another thing! there was a one-off joke about drift having a theory that the knights of Cybertron had evolved into beings of light who communicated by "psychic refraction". I've got no idea what that means, but I'm going to gesture emphatically at it, and then at the ball of light speaking pictures at skids, and then wave my arms around. I HAVE MANY MORE THOUGHTS BUT ITS HARD TO TYPE THIS MUCH ON A PHONE!!!
