all i know about quintessons is that they are squiddy aliens who are very crafty and probably evil! they apparently have History with cybertronians, and they have sparks like cybertronians do. other than that, SHRUG!
I personally have a really hard time dealing with the painterly gritty art whenever it happens. Nobody looks good, I can't tell who anyone is, it just. asfsdf. I stalled out of exrid the first time around the first time I hit one of those chapters, and I stalled out of Dark Cybertron the same way. And even apart from that, the writing is nnnnot great. Everyone feels much less well-rounded :T Some of that may be bad art affecting my opinions, I really struggled around volume 7 of the phase 1 hardcovers when the art got hideous with galvatron and jhiaxus and company.
the first time i read mtmte i just straight up skipped it like spock did. i really only read it because i saw a panel with Spoiler: dc CD tossing prowl THE FUCK OFF A CLIFF. and then the constructicons showed up and so i OBVIOUSLY had to keep reading because their entire thing is like. hnng
Yeah I had the same problem with that artstyle. I honestly skipped a few of the RID issues for exactly that reason, and grimly slogged through those sections of DC only for Cyclonus and Rodimus. It has a lot of the weird pacing issues that bits of RID had, and I think that's the major thing that's a bit tiresome about it.
i HATE that art style so much. the #22 art, a lot of the DC art, any of the """dark and gritty""" art. eughhh blah i like my cartoony colourful rounded robo children, not these over-lined grimdark strangers >:[
OH MAN. Holy shit. I blasted through exrid up to dark cybertron in one go last night, and now I HAVE to read dark cybertron, oh my god. (also because I paid actual dollars for the trade so that is another reason I have to read it, but now I'm getting invested)
Spoiler Maybe! We know they exist in IDW and that they've done some Bad Stuff, although they only showed up in the pre-MTMTE stuff except for a tiny nod in the ExRID series, so who knows how canonical anything is anymore!
I hate that art style too, everyone just looks so dirty and gross. the cartoony style is so much better

Also I've started the Robots In Disguise cartoon while I cross-stitch, and there arrrrrrrrre problems, sure, but I knew that going in, and my handsome dinosaur husband is here and I'm really glad the police lady gets to be a big buff suv.
