Well, yes. wow. That is quite Waver-ish. Nope Brain is stuck on Waver + Hamilton now "If there's a reason i'm still alive when so many have died...."
Fuck, I know, right? "I am the one thing in life I can control/I am inimitable, I am an original." It fits even better if you've read Megkips' fics, by the way. Just the whole... I don't know, archetype of a young man, brilliant and ambitious and of absolutely no decent bloodline whatsoever, clawing his way up to the top because fuck your classism, that's why, refusing to back down and somehow making it work... Also, thanks to my love of the Waver/Rin BroTP (also Megkips' fault), I keep thinking that if you had a version of Satisfied that was platonic as opposed to romantic it could work so well. "Intelligent eyes in a hunger-pang frame"? Yeah, that's pretty much Lord El-Melloi II right there. Like, I've had to actively stop myself from doing the whole thing with Fateverse characters. I mean, it falls apart when I try to push it much further anyway- Waver works as Hamilton really well thematically, and I love the idea of the Tohsaka Sisters, but even if you do adjust the timeline to make it work and avoid the weird age difference the guy they're both into is Shirou, who doesn't fit the role at all. And even if you could get Waver with Sakura, I don't think he'd be the type to cheat on her. Also, if he did the play would end there because Rin would just straight-up murder him.
That's the problem with Fandom-casting. Being characters for one purpose they don't work well in roles written for a different purpose without mangling. I think it's better to stick to individual songs. I'm more of a Shirou/Sakura shipper myself. Rin and Waver as platonic snark buddies tho
Seriously. Forget all this Grail War bullshit, just give me three seasons of the Tohsaka-Velvet Drunken Judgement Hour: hand them a bottle of wine and something to snark at, and stand well back for the sake of preserving your self-esteem. Personally, I tend to split the difference and ship Shirou/Sakura and Rin/Archer. Emiya, that is, not any of the other ones.
<3 bless you. People seem to get confused when I ship it that way. (Shirou/Sakura and Rin/ Archer Emiya) It just feels right. you gotta ship what feels right
It just seems like it would work better, personality-wise. Sakura could really use a sweet and uncomplicatedly supportive relationship in her life, while Rin would probably be more exasperated by Shirou's tendency to be kind of dense- and from the other side of it, Rin actually seems to enjoy the challenge of someone who'll make snippy comments right back at her and is stable enough that she can handle a few issues, whereas Sakura and Archer would have more baggage than a goddamn airport between the two of them. Honestly, though, I'm still stuck on Waver/Rin bromance. It keeps coming out as Mean Girls: Clock Tower Edition. "No, wait, I've always wanted to ask... if you're from Ancient Sumeria, why are you white?" "Oh my God, Waver, you can't just ask people why they're white!" "This has bothered me for twelve years, Rin."
Hahahaha I want to draw it. Where's my tablet. Fuck it I'm drawing this. And here I was back on music associatons and wanted to point you at Panic! at the Disco's 'Emperor's New Clothes' and ask you who you thought of?
Sorry not sorry. On behalf of the fandom, I thank you for being easily enabled. That... is actually the song I associate with one of the main characters of a book I've been planning for most of a year now and may or may not ever actually get around to writing, whoops. I could see it applying to a few different Fateverse characters depending on exactly how you interpret it, though. My go-to Waver Velvet playlist (again, mostly Megkips' fault, I really should spend less time looking for Fate/Zero stuff on tumblr) goes pretty much like this, with some internal debate as to the exact order: 1. Spring Awakening- Totally Fucked 2. Bastille- Icarus 3. The Wombats- Tokyo 4. Sarah Slean- Society Song 5. Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton- Wait For It 6. The Indelicates- Jerusalem 7. Indigo Girls- Everything In It's Own Time
Really? sticking to within Fateverse, who do you see? (As for novels, one step at a time. Do your best!)
I figure it's even odds between Gilgamesh and Iskander, with an outside chance of Mordred or Francis Drake if you go for some of more questionably canon material. The whole 'ravening ambition' theme of it could fit somebody like Rin or Waver, but "taking back the crown" (emphasis mine) kind of implies someone who used to have power reclaiming it as opposed to someone working their way up from the bottom. ...Also, sorry for editing more stuff into my post without warning, I keep thinking of things I'd like to include and going back to put them in. It's the textual equivalent of coming back into the room all "...and another thing!" five minutes after the conversation is over. (Thanks- and good luck to your projects, too. Hopefully I'll get better about focusing, and work my way up to writing longer things.)
XD I know what you mean, it seems better than making a whole new post I keep coming in to just randomly comment like 'As the world falls down music box version +older Waver, wait why am I crying?' 'why am I seeing fan art of Waver dressed like a girl to be held by Rider. I mean, Bisexuality. its a thing.' It'd had been since first listening an INTENSELY Gilgamesh song for me, but I didn't know if other people heard it. Ugh. dont' get me started on focus. I have so many projects, not even talking about things that aren't fanworks.
Oh and what I came in here to say I found this in my computer doodles folder (my specifically fate-related crack folder to be more precise) and started giggling. So I thought I'd share.
Oh my God, yes, I've seen that one on tumblr before and I start grinning every time. Poor Waver, he's never not going to be academically controversial, is he? It would explain so much about the Nasuverse, though. I'm pretty sure Iskander is not only canonically but also historically bisexual, and while I'm not one-hundred percent sure about Waver's sexuality (I tend to think he's gay but you could make a case for bi or some variation of asexual, too) I categorically refuse to believe he's actually straight. There's no fucking way.
I tend to code Waver as bi towards asexual in the 'there are better things to do with my time' way. (which is a separate area than 'non sex replused') so I guess that'd be... bi-demi? Sounds likea bra type. *metal gear noise* you have! I always forget people acutaly see the things I draw. anyway, I wanted to ask; do you have a tumblr name I can give you credit with for this when I post it on Tumblr?
I appreciate the thought. Technically, I do have an account as echodoctor on tumblr, but I almost never actually do anything with it. Still, close enough for government work. To be honest, the main reason I tend to see Waver as gay is because I realized my interpretation of Lord El-Melloi II was, basically, cranky magical Oscar Wilde. I mean, he may not be adhering to conventional mage culture, but he's still following a fine tradition as a sharp-tongued, well-dressed, politically controversial British intellectual. Barely* concealed homosexuality just works with the whole package, you know? *'Barely', because you're not actually trying very hard... or at all.
Why conceal when you can not give a fuck? hehehe. Cranky magical Oscar Wilde. I love it. Well your call, then.
That is a beautiful moment, right there. Many thanks. Given their rather old-fashioned attitudes in canon, I tend to assume that 1. the Mages Association disapproves of homosexuality- not to a violent degree, but there'd definitely be a bit of social scandal because how can you be selfishly indulging yourself instead of having children to continue the family line? and 2. Waver gets away with it by making no attempt whatsoever to hide anything, and therefore everyone assumes it must all just be petty gossip because no one could possibly be that shameless (thus ignoring all available evidence that he lost whatever remained of his sense of shame about a decade ago, exhibit A: his entire career).
They are a rather 'breed for the good of the race' type of attitude, the idea that you must pass on to the next genreation; very old fashioned views of homosexuality, you can do that, I suppose, if you must but breed anyway. But Waver just sailing through "I lost all my fucks in the war"
Like, he still has a sense of morals, if he actually hurt someone he'd genuinely feel bad about it, but in the sense of avoiding scandal and caring about his reputation? Completely shameless, and proud of it. He probably faked being relatively neutral and politically unthreatening for a while, long enough to quietly gain power and influence, and then stopped even pretending to give a fuck as soon as he knew they couldn't get rid of him. "You're stuck with me now, I have tenure!" (insert maniacal laughter here) ...Okay, I'm sure he had the decency to wait until he was in private to have a bit of a supervillain moment, but still. Worse, Rin encourages him, and now it's all radically progressive magical politics everywhere.
