Homestuck Classpects (or Titles, whatever you prefer)

Well, Sapphire is where Garnet gets her future vision from, so her as a Seer of Time makes equal amounts of sense. Seer suits her personality super hardcore, tho. Maybe Seer of Mind? On acounta her overlooking people's emotions? Ruby'd be Heart, I think, which would fit with the opposites thing they got going on.

What would Lapis be, I wonder. She's definitely got a 'destroyer' aspect to her, I think. Maybe a Witch? Prince? I dunno. Someone floated the idea of Jasper as a Prince of Life. I have no clue what the hell Peridot would be.

tbh, i have no clue what anyone would be. i'm not a v good homestuck, haha

Pearl and Connie are Knights, you say?

    Funny you should mention that....

Pearl is absolutely a Knight, no doubt about it. Like, she's such a Knight that it's not even funny. (No really, it legit isn't funny for the most part, it actually gets really sad.) Not sure about Space as her aspect, though. One of the things with Space players is that they seem to be, pretty universally, Unambiguously Good. And while Pearl is absolutely one of the good guys, she's also very, very morally ambiguous at times and does a lot of pretty awful things (that are shown to be awful, mind), intentionally on her part or otherwise. She's not a bad person, but...okay, so if we go off of D&D alignments, she'd be the Crystal Gem who leans furthest towards Neutral in terms of actual morality (though she'd still be Good).

I actually think Knight of Light might be a good title for her if we go off of the behavior of players in canon. Rose is easily the most morally dubious beta kid, I think, and the Serkets are...well, Serkets. Pearl obviously falls more on Rose's (Rose Lalonde, that is, not Rose Quartz) side of morality than the Serkets', but yeah.

I was thinking Connie might be a Witch at first, but I was going more off of the fact that she looks a lot like Jade and her fixation on fantasy, and that's a super tenuous connection. She might work well as a Maid, though I'm not sure about her aspect. (And speaking of Maids, I am now sad that Love isn't an aspect because dammit why can't Garnet's title be Maid of Love.) She could also make a good Mage, since although we don't know much about that class, it'd fit really well with her love of fantasy, at least in terms of terminology.

If we go off of fusion components, I think I'd give Garnet a totally separate title from Ruby and Sapphire, personally. If we don't include Ruby and Sapphire, Garnet is unambiguously a Seer of Time. If we do include Ruby and Sapphire, I have no fucking clue what Garnet would be--Sapphire would totally be a Seer (she's probably a Seer of Time herself), and Ruby...no clue, man.

Amethyst is definitely either a Thief or a Rogue. I'd lean towards Rogue, myself--as Roxy puts it, "thief is basically the asshole class," and while Amethyst is a little shit, she's a lot less cruel than Vriska or Meenah. She might actually work well as a Rogue of Space? (Especially since it often seems to be the Knight's duty to help out the Space player, and Pearl and Amethyst attempting to work together is always A++.)

I'd put Steven as a Sylph of Heart, but Sylph is one of the gender-exclusive classes IIRC, and SO HELP ME I WILL STAY CANON-COMPLIANT IN REGARDS TO CLASSPECT BULLSHIT. Page of Heart actually sounds about right for him, since Pages start out weak but can grow to be incredibly powerful, and that definitely seems to be the case with Steven.

Rose, on the other hand, would definitely be a Sylph, I think. Since I'm trying to give unique classpects all around, though, I dunno what she'd be. Sylph of Blood, maybe, if we go off of the "Blood = bonds and relationships" fanon (since she was not only a healer, but a binding force among the Crystal Gems).

I dunno about Greg as a Bard, since Bard is a destroyer class and that just...doesn't fit him, IMO. Actually I have no goddamn clue what Greg is oops.

Lapis is definitely a Witch, but I'm stuck on her aspect. On the other hand, I definitely see Peridot as a Mind player for some reason, but I have no idea what her class would be.

Jasper...hard to say. Personality-wise she kinda strikes me as a Thief (see also: Asshole Class), but she's also more about brute force than the Thieves we've seen in HS. Probably a Rage player, I think. Although "Thief of Rage" would kind of cancel things out (since it'd be like "one who steals Rage") so maybe Thief would be shitty for her regarding that aspect?

    Non-spoiler list time:

    Steven: Page of Heart
    Garnet: Seer of Time
    Amethyst: Rogue of Space
    Pearl: Knight of Light
    Rose: Sylph of Blood (?)
Connie: Maid (?) of (???) or Mage (?) of (???)
    Greg: fuck if i know
    Lapis: Witch of (???)
    Peridot: (???) of Mind
    Jasper: (???) of Rage

    YEAH.

Prince of Rage maybe? For Jasper? Someone had her as Prince of Life, "one who destroys life", as a reference to her fighting on the Homeworld side, and thus the destruction of all the life on Earth. Plus, yunno, Princes are about on the same level as Thieves in terms of asshole-ness. And I don't think classes are restricted by gender. Or at least I don't wanna think that. 'S less fun that way.

I'm feeling Mage for Connie. And oh my god, giving Space to Amethyst and keeping Pearl the Knight position is fucking perfect. A+ I approve.

Joke suggestion for Greg: Bard of Space

Slightly less joking suggestion: Heir of Life. Partly for the pun of inheriting Steven to raise... partly because he brought a closer experience of human life into the lives of the crystal gems. He tries things, and when they don't work out, he tries other things. Life persists and changes and adapts.

Also, I was checking a wiki for things, and uh

Are you kidding no of course you're not kidding you're just having great fun with these things, my god.

I think a lot of the stuff we know about classpects comes from unreliable narrators, and frankly the whole gender restricted thing is annoying bullshit imo so im feeling free to ignore it. Ymmv.

A bard of blood invites destruction of relationships and connections and through relationships and connections. Greg meant the end of rose as her own person because she valued her connection with him and wanted to be connected to steven, and also the destruction of her bonds with the gems and her as a binding force between the gems. Bards are also often massively underestimated and have the importance of their aspect in them overlooked (see lol sweet stoner clown and cronus's legit creativity and imagination). I have a lot of feels about greg as a bard of blood, having things be falling apart around him because he just loves people a lot and wants them to love him, and being slowly more isolated, and lonely, and yet look at house guest-- whenever he tries to get close stuff breaks down and gets lost and its terrible.

Aso idk about pearl's alignment--she seems pretty Good from what ive seen but im def not caught up so--but i dont think I agree that being super unambiguously good is a space trait? Like, i dont think any character in homestuck is unambiguously good. But kanaya while being completely amazing definitely isnt--she isnt a huge asshole, because i think she mostly wants to be left to herself, but shes got no qualms about chainsawing a bitch in half if she wants to, cough tavros and Eridan, cough. Calliope is complicated and i think greentext calliope shows the kind of fundamentalist ends-justify-the-means bullshit that gets rela creepy real fast. And jade is the closest to unambiguously good homestuck's got but im not sure how much that extends, y'know? Humans are much less likely to be assholes than trolls or cherubs, the webcomic.

Technically some classes are canonically restricted by gender, with about half (I think?) being exclusive to one gender. (IIRC, Prince, Bard, and Heir are exclusively masculine, and Witch, Maid, and Sylph are exclusively feminine? That part could just be fanon, though--we only know for absolute certain that the two Master Classes, Muse and Lord, are both gender-exclusive (Muses being entirely female and Lords being entirely male), and I think Hussie did explicitly state that Witch was an entirely female class. And fanon is complicated by the fact that some God Tier outfits look gendered but belong to non-gendered classes (Seer springs immediately to mind), whereas some probably-gendered classes (such as Maid and Prince) have relatively androgynous God Tier outfits, so it's hard to say which ones are definitively gendered and which ones aren't.

I'm not using the Master Classes here, though, since they're said to be extremely rare (and I think they might only occur in two-player sessions, such as the Cherub session).

For the most part, most classes seem to lean towards one gender or another, but they can have players of other genders (Calliope mentions that Thieves and Rogues tend to be female, but they're not exclusively female, and we do have one known male Rogue in the form of Rufioh). So personally, I tend to keep Prince, Bard, and Heir off the table for girl characters and Witch, Maid, and Sylph off the table for guy characters. Which is not to say you have to! This is all for fun anyway. :D

(I AM trying to give them all classpect combos that aren't already used in canon, though, so I'd personally say she shouldn't be a Prince of Rage either way since Kurloz is already a Prince of Rage. Same reason I objected to Amethyst being a Rogue of Void--it fits her really well, but that's already Roxy's title.)

Prince of Life could work well, though! (I'd actually suggest Thief of Life, but like I said, I'm trying to keep all the classpect combos original-ish, and that's Meenah's title...fml.)

...Come to think of it, though, it might make some sense to have Jasper as a Rogue of Life and Amethyst as a Thief of Space. After all, Rogue is basically "one who steals for the benefit of others" (and Jasper, being a subordinate to Yellow Diamond, isn't fucking lives up for herself--she may enjoy it, but that's not her reason for doing it), whereas Thief is "one who steals for the benefit of oneself" (and Amethyst is quite hedonistic and sometimes rather self-centered)...

Every test I've taken has always put me in the knight aspect. At one point I got Knight of Doom, but consistently otherwise I've always landed in Knight of Time. Which is just fine by me, 'cause red's my favorite color anyway. Bonuuuus.

The tests usually label me a Seer of Light, but I prefer to say Witch. Because passivity and a strong desire to delegate choices to other people because decisions are scary is one of my biggest weaknesses, and the whole point of the Classpect system is to challenge the player and give them a ~character arc~.

Marinette's powers are all about luck, so that'd be Light, I think? She doesn't have much to do with souls. However I also saw a post making her Space and Adrien Time (creation and entropy, so it fits, and they swap costume palettes!)

  16. Scheherazade

    Scheherazade It's a story fractal

Looking at the previous class chart, it just doesn't sit right with me. I'm aware that I have little to no solid data and probably no clue what I'm talking about, but it just bugs me, something just doesn't feel right. It's probably just me being whiny, and everyone should feel free to disregard my equally non-canon crap in favor of whichever version they prefer, but I tried to work things out, and I think it might theoretically work like this:

    Thief/Rogue- Displacement Classes
    Prince/Bard- Destruction Classes
    Lord/Muse- Master Classes
    Page/Knight- Guardian Classes
    Sylph/Seer- Invocation Classes
    Heir/Maid- Bestowal Classes
    Witch/Mage- Understanding Classes

To explain: the first three have been talked about in canon already, so we're just going to leave those alone for now.

Starting with the first theoretical pairing, I feel it's worth pointing out that the definition of a page was, historically, one in training to become a knight, the step below being taken as a squire. It's been widely thought that the Knight class means protecting, which I feel fits the comic when one considers it in a broader sense than just physically fighting off somebody's enemies- despite being capable fighters, neither Dave nor Karkat are the strongest members of their teams in combat. However, in the sense of guarding, guiding, and nurturing one's charge... well, the jokes about Karkat mother-henning his friends are as numerous as they are accurate, and Dave's willingness to sacrifice himself for others is a known quantity.

Therefore, I believe that the duty of a Knight class is to act as a guardian of the potentially vulnerable, defending people and giving them a chance to reach their potential... which is, canonically, the nature of the Page class: they begin as the weakest of the players, but have incredible potential if they can only achieve it. The pawn that becomes a queen, the student that surpasses the master. Pages are the active half of the pair, those who need to be protected until they've grown enough to stand on their own. Knights are the passive half, offering protection to those in need, whatever form it might take.

Next, we have one of my more questionable ideas, but I like the thought. My idea here is that they both interact directly with their Aspect itself, even moreso than the other classes, calling upon it to aid them in times of need, interacting with it almost like one would with another being. The active Sylph class becomes an incarnation of the Aspect in their own right, taking on its properties and easily using it to set right anything wrong in its domain, because they are a part of it and can restore things to their 'natural order' in regards to the Aspect. This comes largely from the mythological portrayal of sylphs as spirits of air, incarnations of nature similar to dryads. By contrast, the passive Seer acts like the oracles of old, calling on a power vaster than themselves to show them answers and let them see through its eyes, and then interpreting the results.

I might have originally thought of Maid in the sense of 'young woman' and not 'housekeeper', and given Homestuck's complexity it wouldn't surprise me if both were somehow part of it all, but Aradia's comments about cleaning up messes bring to mind the image of a servant, which pairs well with the image of an Heir- while one need not necessarily be a member of the nobility to receive something from another, inheritance carries an implication of hereditary wealth. Vague, but the basic idea is that the active Heir is one who is given things (and then needs to live up to whatever responsibilities they bring), whereas the passive Maid gives to others- including giving them tests of their worthiness.

Last we have the Witch, an active class based on understanding and using one's Aspect, wielding your power through your expertise, and the Mage, a passive class based on providing the benefits of expertise to others, as per Sollux 'tech support of the apocalypse' Captor.

So, yeah, this is all very rough, but it makes more sense to me this way and I think it could work.

I'm really glad you like it. By the way, the way I tend to pair up Aspects is even rougher, but it goes something like this:

    Space/Time- creation vs. entropy
    Blood/Breath- connections vs. freedom
    Heart/Mind- self vs. actions
    Life/Doom- growth vs. boundaries
    Light/Void- clarity vs. obscurity
    Hope/Rage- belief vs. rejection

Very basic outline, really not sure about parts of it, but it seems like a good start. Interestingly, this would mean that fully half of the Beta Trolls had a perfect opposite of their classpect on their team (Knight of Blood and Page of Breath, Prince of Hope and Bard of Rage, Witch of Life and Mage of Doom), and that Vriska would be one for Roxy (Thief of Light and Rogue of Void). Not sure if that would actually be significant, but it's interesting.

Also, I'm guessing that a Knight of Space would be the mommiest mom friend to ever mom.

I'd be fascinated to hear further thoughts if you have them. I'm always interested in things that simplify the classpect system to something i can actually use. At the moment when I'm giving OCs classpects I tend to use God Tier RPG's system.

A handful, but they're all pretty dubious. All the Aspects are more multifaceted and complex than the brief one-word descriptions I used, like Breath can be both freedom and movement and actual, literal air manipulation, but they're close enough for government work. If you have any specific classpects you wanted to talk about, I'd be happy to bounce some ideas around.
