i'll be honest, i do not "get" driftceptor. i assume they interacted plenty in spotlight:drift, but in mtmte i don't think they exchange any particularly meaningful words, if they talk at all. drift has more conversations with pipes than he does perceptor. i do not get it.
They didn't actually do too much together there either. They had a couple interactions, and there one particular cute ship-inspiring action scene, but not much in the way of, like... words and character stuff. They did the wrecker thing for a while together off screen, but it's kind of a ship that got popular despite canon instead of because of canon. It helps that you've got artists like Herzspalter injecting lots of personality, but even she admits that there isn't all that much canon reason to ship it. The annoying thing is that I do like driftceptor. But there's all the driftceptor folks lashing out at dratchet now and I'm like aw, come on, I can't enjoy the one thing I like while you're shitting all over the other thing I like, can't you just play nice for two goddamn seconds are we seriously going through the 00's fandom phase again
Yeah all the Percy and Drift stuff is wrecker interactions off screen. Which he go with it but ship and let ship
oh, seriously? i assumed that there was some kind of, like. i don't know, like they were partners or something? i thought that i must have missed some vital characterization moments, because so many people ship it so hard. i can't really talk, though, because..... huh. i just went looking through my list o' ships to pick out the most ridiculous one to wave around as a 'my ships are absurd so i have no moral high ground' flag, but. i can't, all of my ships make perfect sense to me except for some of the poly ones that are half-joke, half embarrassing sincerity. wait, prowl/constructicons. there we go. ....no, prowl/constructicons is hilarious and it makes sense, i can't disparage any of my ships, i love my ships
[Is off-topic again] I knew via Internet osmosis that Starscream was an asshole, but. He was shaping up to be one of my favorites in RiD, dammit. His dialogue's fun and honestly he's one of like three reasons I'm still slogging through. Then he had to go and... Spoiler: RiD 17 ...SHOOT METALHAWK LIKE WHAT THE FUCK. don't hurt the cinnamon roll you son of a bitch. No. Not allowed D8 ....also, whoever said "wait and see" wrt Prowl being sympathetic... ehhhhhh. I no longer think he is quite so much a dick, but I didn't like him much even during Chromedome's flashbacks. (I feel like him being Bumblebee's friend is supposed to make the combiner stuff more of an impact, but... that relies on me actually caring about Bee.)
I had trouble with RiD until after Dark Cybertron. Part of it is definitely that MTMTE gave me stupidly high standards for my giant robot comics, but Windblade and company being introduced definitely helps with some of the problems, and the plot has room to breathe beyond 90% political machinations. Plus at some point in there you get to read the Sarah Stone Windblade miniseries! I don't know exaaaaaactly where it fits, but it's sometime between DC and Combiner Wars, and it's pretty much the prettiest transformers series ever. Also, a bit of Prowl-specific backstory: Spoiler: pre-mtmte So on earth, Prowl was pretty much leading human-cybertronian interactions, with his human counterpart being Spike Witwicky. And in this canon, Spike is a fucking asshole. He's doing all kinds of under-the-table dealings, including some sketchy use of stolen Cybertronian tech, but he also goes off and tortures and murders the Constructicons' leader, Scrapper, even after Scrapper surrendered. Prowl started his time on earth as a pretty decent dude, if a bit inclined to Prowl-knows-best and all that. But he trusted Spike in his dealings with them, and Spike betrayed them really, really significantly and secretly kind of hated them all the whole time. Prowl takes it hard. So apart from the thing Chromedome did that left a path into Prowl's head, the Constructicons also bond with him a bit over mutual hatred of Spike and bitterness over how the whole Earth thing went. Prowl's still pretty unsympathetic, but he just gets hurt more and more as all of the Transformers series progress. And when he's hurt, he does more things that hurt other people and drives his friends away, and then he's hurt more because they won't trust him and he's super isolated and nobody understands. I have a big weakness for those kind of self-sabotaging characters who ruin their own lives and can't see that they're doing it, which is probably why I love Starscream so much too :V
This reminds me, so larrydraws has this thing called the motherland AU (frequently nsfw) where basically all the decepticons are hunky russian revolutionary ladies and everyone is way too hot and it's not fair and everyone should check it out
I like the political machinations, I was having fun watching them all circle around each other. Half my problem is that I am bored to death whenever Bumblebee is the focus unless he's interacting with Starscream or Metalhawk. Dunno why, maybe he'll get more interesting as time goes on, but honestly I don't care about him and I don't even remember most of his lines two pages after he stops talking. (The other half of my problem is that MTMTE set the bar for Robot Comics way too high :P and also the first-person narration boxes that interrupt the flow of the comic, but that can probably be filed under "set the bar too high".) This is fair! That is totally the opposite of my type when it comes to favorites though :P far too frustrating to read. Thank you for the fair warning that he continues to do the thing, at least I know now.
Just dropped 42 dollars on Hasbro Toy comics because.... they were my fave arcs..... AND RODIMUS IS SO VERY HANDSOME IN THEM
