Sometimes at night when he can't sleep, he stays up late, using his face things to scroll through his watch tag, and tries to figure out just from the pretty pictures of the mechanisms how he'd have put one together back when he still had hands. The light from the screen is just enough to illuminate his stacks of basic digital clock attempts on the desk across the room, and he ultimately lets the screen go dark because all he's done is give himself a queasy feeling that's one part wistfulness and two parts self-hatred and dysphoria I'm hurting myself, now. The suffering must be shared equally. It's like angst socialism

I was thinking about this post I made months ago in CDCF and now that I've read the canon I feel like it could be revised to fit and I've been thinking about it for half an hour, so I have to share my thoughts now. Spoiler: 47/51 spoilers So, say Tailgate manages to use that whatever-it-was power to get Team Rodimus through enough of the DJD forces to get to the ship. But now they know about his power and want to either kill him or take it for themselves. I don't remember off the top of my head exactly where Trepan is now, but say the cast gets word that the DJD is teaming up with him because they want to subject Tailgate to shadowplay so they can have his power for themselves. So in the midst of attempting to get back the Lost Light and going through dangerous areas of space, they reason that it's possible that Tailgate could get captured. And he's absolutely devastated about the idea that he could be used again, especially to hurt his friends, so he begs Brainstorm and Chromedome to come up with a way to prevent that. And the best they can do is either a killswitch, sort of, or a way for him to use someone else's brainwaves to keep them out but with the consequence that that person is subject to the shadowplay instead maybe? (idk, this part is not fully fleshed out). ANYWAY so either way he'll need to be connected mentally to someone, because with the killswitch option, they want to leave the possibility of rescue open but also if it's impossible or if the shadowplay is about to happen they need to trigger it, so someone on the outside is needed, and then obviously the shield option they would have to be connected too. So Tailgate wants someone who he's close to to be in his head, so he asks Cyclonus, who does his self-sacrificing thing and agrees. And they have to deal with the whole "Well do we actually want to be married?" thing while in each others' heads. And then of course Tailgate does get captured which with either option leads to lots of lovely pain, but because I can't stand an unhappy ending and this would be a idfic they manage to, idk, do a mindmeld so Tailgate has his power and Cyclonus' experience and tactics (I get a feeling he has a tactical brain but can't remember if that's canon so that part would also be fleshed out later) and escapes and then they get their ship back with their combined awesomeness and probably decide to stay connected without the trigger because true love, the end.
