Spoiler I think the retcon thing is a great way to interpret it, and would have been MATHS percent clearer if, say, Lord English had turned white with bluish edges at the end. The issue isn't that there's no way to understand it, but that it doesn't lead anywhere in particular. It doesn't have a connection to anything else in the work, and it doesn't end as a narrative. It just stops. And not everything ends neatly, sure. Some things just stop. It's just that, while so many other threads have been tied up, and I'd argue that all of the other major threads have been tied up, this one is left hanging, not in an ominous or leading fashion, just left as if overlooked. It reminds me of when my roommate would start playing cadences on his piano and then not resolve them, but at least he made it clear he was deliberately being an asshole. Well, we'll see what happens if there is an epilogue.
Someone also pointed out that people don't have character arcs and that is a thing I think of too with Homestuck. Now let me bask in my art. URRRRGH. THE SHEER PRETENSION. IT JUST GETS ME SO HOT AND BOTHERED.
Spoiler: same, man Also worth noting that the Endagme Door is the reverse of the Homestuck juju; that is, the backside of it. The door opens and they can all step out. (Additionally, the homestuck juju as first seen is not in fact white: it's transparent and displays the color of the ms paint adventures website. The juju is in some sense the website and/or the story itself, and with the end of Act 7, our heroes have quite literally left the comic.) Lord English, on the other hand, gets no such resolution. (note that the juju when vriska pulls it on him is face-forward) He does not get part of his timeline outside of the baleful, entrapping eye of the readers, and the very ambiguity of what happens to him means he's trapped within the story forever by the Tethercat Prinicple.
In unrelated news, I am very amused, because I happened to notice the the little "Your ad here!" thing on the MSPA website before midnight, and I went to look at the news post again and noticed that the price it displays went up by a factor of five in the last two hours..
I've been crying for the past hour I can't believe homestuck is over I just. Holy fucking shit it's time to move on and have Homestuck as a thing to look back to and learn from and. Thanks hussie for my life

Spoiler Ahh, I thought you meant we literally saw aspect symbols. ...I'm still annoyed Sollux gets left out in the cold. We saw basically nothing from him during Collide, and the poor guy deserves to be happy with his friends as much as anyone else! ...also I need to headcanon that Jane revived Spades Slick at some point, because, honestly, his death does not sit right with me. And then he and Ms Paint get an adorable canhouse. WV is suspicious but he likes Ms Paint. Also I'm basically headcanoning that the New Universe is populated by carapaces, humans, trolls, all consort species, and various crossbreeds.
Turns out what I'm doing with my life is listening to some unofficial mspa fans. They make such good music. Write fanfiction isn't a bad idea though. suggestions? drabbles fulfilling a burning need for character x you want?
