Yeah but like. FF has done the thing a couple times where the magic world is the one that's lost and the tech world is the one the protags are from (XIII, to a lesser extent VI) and just Can has in Tales?
I'm liking it so far! Still adjusting to keyboard controls, and even w the graphics turned way down on my laptop it lags :( but it's super pretty and the battle system is fun so far.
God, please. Aya and I have started another replay of Abyss and as always I've just been sucker punched by how much I love this game. It's honestly one of my favorites ever made, probably my favorite that can't be pc rigged. The storytelling is unbelievable and has probably emotionally hurt me more than any game outside of the Mother series. I still feel a little bit of painful shock when I hear 'Akzeriuth.' God, why. WHY. You're working on an Abyss fic? Tell me about it. This universe is so much fun to play with between human cloning and mystery science that can do pretty much anything you and also the existence of Jade Curtiss. Really like that guy. He feels like the guy who is too cool to actually be a party member for longer than half an hour, but here he is.
Not Abyss but I am impressed by the fact that Velvet from Berseria apparently dressed like a normal person once. (Seriously, how did she go from her old clothes to...what she wears now....)
When her normal outfit first got released, a friend posited that she got in a fight with a rabid lawnmower.
It's sad that is a more plausible explanation than Presa "she needs her skin exposed to power her magic!!!" I just feel like the character design has gotten really bewildering lately. Have you seen the Book Skirt Lady? Jesus. Like, thinking back to older games, arguably Rutee's outfit was revealing but it was just super 90s, not mind bendingly stupid and held on by double sided tape. (I...get a little passionate about incomprehensible character design at times.) I guess I'm a little miffed that Namco seems to think they can't sell a female protagonist if shes not wearing just underwear.
IT IS MY STUPID LONG ROLESWAP AU PROJECT THAT I WILL HAPPILY TALK ABOUT FOR HOURS you can read it here. I love it so much, even though I'm still only in the Slightly Different stage of AU building. And especially after Zestiria, too, which for all its costuming mishaps in general at least gave us one well dressed female character and the rest with only slight eyerolling.
I found a lot of the costumes in Zestiria overly busy, but that's mostly my personal aesthetic. And I will take them over whatever Berseria is doing any day... I honestly haven't really played Zestiria yet. I want to, but I initially tried to start it on my laptop which lagged horribly, and now that I have a proper computer I've been playing FF14 instead... I heard mixed reviews about it, though. I'm sure I'll probably enjoy it but getting the momentum to begin has been hard. I just miss the level of world building the older games had...I feel like the newer games are a bit rushed sometimes.
Agreed on both counts. Lailah's design is a good example of Cosplay Hell design. I don't notice it much on the others, but Lailah, girl, how is that in any way a practical adventuring outfit? Tales has always been prone to rather detailed costuming, though. Linework designs are this series' Nomura Zippers.
I usually see it phrased with the comparison between the amount of bias tape in Tales and the amount of belts in Final Fantasy, but it amounts to the same thing.
Tales of Symphonia (PS3 port version) and Tales of Zestiria are both on sale on Steam this weekend. I'm considering getting one.
the important part is that the ring in every single game which lets you detect secret doors by walking up to every wall and emiting a yellow line is "the pee ring".
[calmly tries to resurrect thread] English version of Berseria's out this week and the hype is real for me right now.
honestly I haven't been able to get hype for ToB because I'm constantly distracted by VELVET PUT ON SOME CLOTHES
I feel that and it doesn't make up for it entirely but iirc you can put her past outfit on fairly early on. Me...I still need to finish Zestiria. I feel bad but I lost steam like halfway thru it. I like the characters but the plot is a little frustrating...also THE BATTLE CAMERA. IS SO BAD WTF.
