I dyed my hair yesterday! it's difficult to see the color because my phone camera is crap and it's a sorta dark indigo-violet-blue that didnt really stuck to the unbleached parts/where i had dyed red, buuut i like it it's fine and i tried to curl my hair in celebration, got all dressed up for class... and today was a holiday that i completely forgot.

dear people who know things about fashion, I have a problem, if I may air it out with you guys. I have quite a lot of interest in looking fashionable, good, and interesting, and I'm currently building up my wardrobe so now's a pretty good time to diversify. but I also am not interested in dressing in ways that aren't very very masculine. but I dislike a lot of common elements of men's fashion—a lot of the patterns used, for instance, and the desaturated colors, and the way a lot of it looks very much the same. so I guess my question is, are there any ways to make more-or-less traditional menswear interesting? I also have the problem that my school requires collared shirts for class dress, so I have to wear only those a lot of the time. and also I am poor, generally speaking.

it requires a bit of digging, but collared shirts can come in super interesting patterns and colors (you might wanna comb through thrift shops for that)
of course there is also always sweaters, sweater vests, cardigans, blazers and so on.
You want I make you a few fun men's wear polyvore inspo boards? I was thinking Candy-Colored Prep/Business wear, but idk if that's a color group you'd be into? Bit like Creepycute/Pastelgoth color palettes but more masc?

@IvyLB ugh, work. :P but that's reassuring. I suppose I'll just have to build up a collection over time. man is it hard turning over your entire wardrobe in less than a year.
as for the Polyvore boards, thanks and yes please! idk about candy-colored exactly—I guess I would describe my favorite sort of colors as jewel tones? but I would definitely be interested in anything you'd like to put together, and I definitely trust your taste, haha. also my face is up on the penultimate page of the selfie thread if that would be helpful in constructing outfits? I have a vague sense that skin tones, etc. are important.

@esotericPrognosticator They're on the pricey side, imo, but Express does lovely jewel-tone men's shirts, so keep an eye out for when they're doing seasonal clearance sales. Sometimes H&M has them too, but far less reliably. Finding richly-coloured sweaters is stupidly hard, but if you have a shop nearby that carries Britches brand (Tip Top Tailors is one), their sweaters hold up nicely and don't shrink in the wash.

(I might also pitch in some polyvore sets because now I am actually inspired to do something with the new menswear section.:D)

The only thing I can think of besides what people have already said is find a couple bloggers whose style you like and keeping an eye for similar stuff - if anything it'll give you a shape to look for and, like, pointers.

I've been aware that fabric dye is relatively affordable there so if you have an eye for color that's... an option, i guess?

Okay I did one for dress shirts!

    Here :D

(Also feel free to look at the rest of my polyvore, I think all of it is women's fashion, not necessarily feminine but idfk *shrug*)

Edit: will do a pastel goth set with both fem and masc options when my iPad is no longer dying, that might end up being hours from now, or minutes)
