Thing I found out: shopping for eveningdresses on a budget is no task for the lighthearted. Also on one hand I like body con, on the other, *body image demon roaring*

This is a general fashion thread by the way, I´m just loopy.

So on the one hand, I love fashion. Love it. On the other hand, I like being very comfortable, and also am poor, and also hate shopping, especially for clothes, and also finding clothes that fit well is always interesting. And then there's the aspect of How Do I Gender Presentation.

But, oh, if I could afford, I would buy pretty dresses and tailored suits and all sorts of Hats, yes, because I love hats. And jackets especially, with interesting cuts and trimmings.

That is basically me, minus hats but with the addition of "loves jackets but can't ever wear them even though I live in the north because I'm in thermoregulation hell." I get hot and stuffy sometimes just wearing long pants.

oh man clothes. i like the sort of colourfully-dapper look that i sometimes see on tumblr, with button-ups and ties and cardigans and stuff that seems dressy and put-together without looking like it's officewear or out of place on campus. on the other hand i'm never sure how to go about shopping to put together outfits, which combined with the gender thing makes shopping frustrating.

i am pretty pleased with the two vests that i own. one's dark brown with a houndstooth pattern, and the other's cream and looks linen. they work with both dress shirts and jeans, so right up my aesthetic alley.

It's time to GRIPE ABOUT BEING PLUS SIZED, specifically as regards SEWING PATTERNS because I DO NOT HATE A 32 INCH WAIST, and PEOPLE WHO ARE BIG DESERVE TO BE ABLE TO MAKE CUTE CLOTHES, because THE FASHION INDUSTRY SURE AS HELL ISN'T MAKING THEM FOR US.

On the bright side my mom promised to help me size this up.

Ooh, that is a really cute pattern. I am also plus-sized! And tall. I mostly shop online at Torrid, because there is a surprisingly large selection of clothes that combine skulls and florals, and that is my aesthetic. Plus bright colors and excessive cleavage. I really, really love clothes and would have far more of them if I weren't poor.

Also, @littlemissCodeless, if you like bodycon but are somewhat uncomfortable, a shaper like this is a bit of an investment but could make you feel less self-conscious. I've got one and I wear it for formal stuff where there will be pictures and also interviews I'm nervous about. This is the full-body version - I haven't tried one like this.

It's so cute. I love corset tops and non-sleevey tops in general.

And yeah, tall is a bit of a problem too; I usually do okay in the Things on Legs department but I have a really long torso so SHOW YOUR BELLY WITH EVERYTHING. It's not fun.

@Chiomi Thanks. I have some corsets, but my main issue is my hips which are due entirely to bone structure.
Currently making a dress fit me properly. My hand hurts.

Lolita fashion is not designed for someone with my weight or boob size but I am (very slowly) making it work. I will be so frilly and it will be fantastic

My bff does lolita, if you want big boob help he can probably point you in the right direction at least. His tumblr's sumomomochi, I've linked it here in the past I think???

But yeah, I see large lolita fairly regularly, it's definitely not impossible!

@littlemissCodeless I have the same issue with corsets. I don't know whose idea it was to make corsets for women without taking the most feminine body shape into account but I'm very cross with whoever it is.

My back is wide or my boobs are small, but there are no bras for me in shops. I am also complicating things by refusing to wear foam on my boobs, it would get hellishly warm in summer and would make my boobs look weirdly big and I get angry about how every seller thinks I am obliged to pretend my boobs are bigger than they are. But this means that my only options are sports bras (which work like binders which I don't like either), finding stuff in second-hand shops once in a decade, and clinging to my awful old discolored ones. I just want to somewhat deaccentuate my nipples and have nice black lines on my shoulders that would go well with outfits. Whyyyyy is this so hard. And seamstresses refuse to modify bras.

Ooh, bras. I can help with bras. First: have you measured yourself or are you going by stuff that has worked historically or a shop has told you?

Next: http://www.herroom.com/ is a miracle resource, and sorts things by how they actually fit as opposed to just what the label says.

I technically have a larp wardrobe and a regular wardrobe but they bleed into eachother gleefully and regularly.
I'm trying to get into post apocalyptic kinda looks for my androgynous days, still collecting more Lolita for my hyperfemme day, inbetween I am dapper and preppy and mostly just plain weird about clothes.
The most connecting feature of my wardrobe is 'I don't know when or why I bought this but I'm glad I own it'
also 'who the fuck lets me into stores I keep buying stuff I really don't need'
    and 'what is impulse control'
additionally 'no one should own or need this much evening wear'
and sometimes a hearty 'what the fuck ever elven tunics are totally appropriate for day wear'

ugh, i love fashion. including lolita fashion, but i'm a size 18/20 and can't do it ): i do have an oo jia replica of alice and the pirates's midsummer night's dream, tho.

my fashion style is sadly crippled by plus size clothing being either fuck awful or fuckwafully expensive, but i just got THE CUTEST SHIRT on the men's department of a chain store here [IMG]

isn't it pretty?!? i swear i heard Elvis softly singing Only You on my ears when I saw it on the mannequin. I'm just mad I had to get it in XL when I usually wear a dude's M - they're using the same sizing as the lady-coded stuff.
