Although, I couldn't use Kumari in a space opera, because she's a cavern jade. Guess that leaves Jasmet!
Oh man. I've been watching the general planning thread pretty closely but staying quiet because I ought to stay away from commitment.... but I am weak and I miss fantrolling. Count me down for one interested. I've had two trolls and one kid in SGRUB-type games before (Durian, Noctua and Dawn), but it's been a while. (Hi Bram). I might unearth one of them for a new setting, or try one of a few others I've started but not completed. I haven't tried an adult or a non-SGRUB setting yet. Ugh, I have a very similar problem. If I don't work out enough of the personality/goals ahead of time, my characterization gets flat, unemotional and uninvolved.
I'm not specifically voting for this over freeform, but if we do this, I will be so into character creation. I have happily jammed in jamjars before, if that's your question! :D It's been a while. DWrp takes too many spoons for me to manage right now, so I'm on a long break. This looks far more manageable, not least of which because there's a good sense of community in this forum already. If that wasn't your question.... Enjoy the infodump! :p
I was actually referring specifically to Jarjammed, the SBURB RP that Bramble was in and which I lurked but Regret Not Joining (it's a deep regret).
Aha! No. I was in Scrib and HIC. I heard of Jarjammed from a few people, but never joined. Neither did I lurk enough to get references, so...
I only get the most general and/or friendgroup of references, so. (I've actually been tempted to put a SBURBgame musebox together because damnit, I want to SBURB Luke fon Fabre so badly. Even though I play him in no other context. sighs.)
I have so many fantrolls I haven't touched in ages. Poor Laelia, lost to my disillusionment with Tumblr RP and all the other ones who never saw the light of day. (Karwan, my delightful asshole. <3<) And I made a fanhuman for a doomed-timeline Sgrub/burb RP with a friend's friends that sadly never got off the ground. I'd love to dust them off in any situation, though my human would require some serious work to fit outside her story. (Basically we were going with there being archetypes to players, sessions might end up with players filling non-classpect, non-leaderly roles. Chandrea was the Rose of their session, determined to make sense of things and willing to pull the universe apart at the seams to do so, eventually contacting the horrorterrors and going grimdark. In a three-player session. And what drove her to that had to do a lot with the distinct way that their particular session was well and thoroughly fucked.) I am habitually cruel to my characters. My favorites are the ones who get dragged through hell by the back of a pickup, chew through the rope, pick themselves up and keep walking. It may or may not say something about my own experiences, that these are the ones I find most relatable.
Oh man, I would be so down for godtierrpg (although I have a lot of trouble learning from text solely, so I might need to spend some time observing. It's been a long, long time since I forum rped but I have done tabletop recently and I think this would be super cool. (also: character creation, fuck yeah!)
I don´t want to ruin anyones fun but I´d prefer something more freeform than the godtierrpg. Those rules really are daunting.
I'm actually kinda with you on that. The godtierrpg looks cool, but going through the blog is starting to intimidate me a bit.
So, would we be using fantrolls or more semi self inserts? Cause I do need to do something with my fantrolls, but the troll make up artist idea from earlier is so tempting...
SS has never played any kind of tabletop RPG ever, and if we're honest I suspect it's the thing I'd find more stressful than entertaining. Hmm, there's nothing from stopping us having two rps going, is there? A godtierrpg session for the people who like tabletop games and a space opera one for those who want something more freeform. (Or, alternatively, two rounds of sgrub running simultaneously, but I suspect that might get confusing.)
I have a fantroll who survives solely on the fact that highbloods like classical music, so a makeup artist would be pretty believable.
Given that we don't yet have a dice roller, don't know how long it will take to get one, and have several people uncomfortable with the tabletop game... I advise we work on a freeform game as the higher priority. If nothing else, it gives people interested in that rule system a longer chance to read up and get familiar with it
i also vote for having two different fantroll RPs going. personally, i'm only interested in the space opera setting (i will probs read the hell out of the sgrub rp, but playing that isn't really my jam). with the obvious disclaimer that i know jack shit about your characters and your cavern jade worldbuilding headcanons, i feel like this isn't necessarily an automatic disqualifier, depending on setting and plot? like, for an example in canon we have a couple cults and slavery, so i can see a whole bunch of reasons somebody might try to steal wigglers from a brooding cavern. so, say your character is going about her cavern jade business when suddenly heist, and then adventure ensues that draws her into whatever other shenanigans might be going on. not that i'm saying you'd have to do that or anything, it's just an example idea of how a cavern jade could still work into things.
oh hey, nother thought about the general rp - it seems like there are gonna be a whole lot of trolls running around this space opera. which is awesome, but coordination seems potentially complicated? especially if people's trolls are in radically different places/situations to start. then again, i am a total noob to rp, so maybe i'm being worried over nothing. XP also also, how many fantrolls is one person allowed to play? (i only have one ready to roll at the moment, but it seems like some people have multiple characters they'd like to play, so this seems like something that should be decided)
I feel like we should each start only playing one, and then if it's feasible people can have more. Maybe we need a character thread?
