I just realized that three of my OTPs can be described as "fighty butch and blue femme with clairvoyant powers". (Ruby/Sapphire, Haruka/Michiru, and Mokou/Keine)
Spoiler: Barn Mates & Hit the Diamond Oh my God, Peridot is so awkward and innocently offensive and Lapis ain't having any of it. And at the end Peridot was all "Sempai noticed me!" and Lapis had a blush. Also, it's official, Ruby and Sapphire can't stop flirting to save their friend's life, I love it. Also, is it just me, or is every episode Ruby and Sapphire have been in gotten progressively gayer? Like, from Jailbreak to Keystone Motel to The Answer, and now this episode where they spend 80% of it coyly waving to each other and blushing and giggling. There has been an escalation of the gay, and I think that is something Rebecca Sugar should be very proud of. Also, this is the best set of line from the entire season: Steven: Ruby, stop being cute! And Sapphire, keep your eye on the ball! Ruby: Pun... intended? Steven: (snaps fingers) What did I just say?

SCREAMS WHAT GOOD EPISODES Spoiler I have gotten ridiculously attached to the Rubies already. I love all of them. Can they all be my smol red babs. They're all so WEIRD AND DIFFERENT. I'm actually legitimately kind of sad that they might not show up again. I desperately hope they will, but... aaaaaaah I love them so much also I outright cackled at Lapis calling herself Bob |D
honestly I might be biased here so take what I say with a grain of salt but a few scenes in the last couple of episodes (same old world, barn mates, hit the diamond) have felt like foreshadowing Jasper having a redemption arc. Spoiler Same Old World has the autumn leaf that suspiciously looks like Jasper's gem. He even holds it right in front of Lapis's face where Jasper's gem is! and he talked about the leaves changing, and later talks about how everything on earth is always changing. Barn Mates has "you need to learn who someone actually is and give them a chance before you hate them" as the moral of the story in Hit the Diamond the Rubies seemed pretty angry when asking about where Jasper is. I don't think this is a rescue mission. Jasper either is, or will be another refugee on Earth soon. and Jasper is not a nice person; but I feel like the people saying she will be an evil villain forever, only have negative character development, or she'll die, are in some serious denial right now. Steven Universe doesn't do evil villains and it doesn't do character death for drama.
Unless I'm remembering wrong, when Amethyst showed up and saw what was happening she used exactly the same exclamation as Peridot had. Between that and Peri adopting some of her slanginess earlier on: Amedot4life <3
Spoiler: for Hit The Diamond What I want to know is are we going to see more of Eye-Ruby? She seemed more tolerant and clever than her team mates - also she thanked Steven, even after they found out they were Gems (omg Garnet I know you're in love but that was just silly <3) and I don't know - I kind of have a feeling we're not done yet with that lot. (Also the dumbest Ruby with the high voice was adorable. Yes please wa/onder more about this planet and be a sweetgem, plz.)
I'm guessing this is just a 'Lapis only showed up when messed up lighting was a thing', but... has she always been THIS blue? Like god damn, she is blue as hell. I feel like I need to be wearing orange sunglasses in order to look at her. It Lapis. Too blue for this sinful world.
Spoiler: barn mates okay but...I'm kind of pissed off?? Lapis never actually got a proper apology from Peridot for using her, treating her like everyone else ever did, and dragging her back to Earth and interrogating her and probably treating her poorly. in fact, all Lapis got was "you were so full of useful information" which is not a sincere compliment, it's just a reminder of what Peridot and everyone else ever has done!
Yeah. Hopefully P gets back to learning the intricacies of interpersonal interaction. Like, on her own without bugging Lapmaster9000. And then she can come back later, when Lap's more settled, with an apology that shows a basic understanding of what the fuck Lapis is even on about. She's still learning. And from a teach with gaps in his knowledge.
Spoiler Yeah, Lapis flat out tells peridot that the issue is that Peridot used her, and Peridot's only response is basically 'actually that was all ok, and anyways that was in the past.' I just wish Steven had made Peridot apologize properly. Maybe that'll be in tonight's episode?
Spoiler: Barn Mates jokey haha Peridot's gift should have been the most obvious intersection of water and flying, which is water balloons.
