Pas de problème, mais je tiens à dire que je suis souvent aussi (voire plus) difficile à comprendre en Français qu'en Anglais. (By the way, I'm using feminine gender in French because all the constructed neutral ones sound really awkward to me.)
En fait je te trouve pas de tout difficile à comprendre en anglais...néanmoins maintenant je peut faire croire que ma difficulté en compréhension n'est pas à cause de mon mauvais français !
(Posting in English because, for some reason, if feels easier to use English on this forum? IDK.) Yeah, when I'm speaking French, it's like I'm throwing all the stuff I'm thinking about in a blender. And adding a bunch of swear words. And if it's actually verbal communication, I have a completely unexplained accent and... I was going to say I stutter, but I don't even pause when starting over my sentence.
That's fair - I don't want to drag you into speaking French if you prefer English on the forum. My written French is so non-fluent compared to my spoken, it takes me forever to write something that I wouldn't hesitate to say out loud. I guess because when I speak French out loud I just approximate at meaning and rely on intonation and context to make it make sense, whereas when I write it's gotta be correct or I worry people won't understand it D: Your written English is amazing though; from what I've seen of your writing it would never even occur to me that it wasn't your first language.
Honestly, at this point, my brain processes written English better than anything else. My spoken English is even more of an unintelligible mess than any of the other languages I speak, though.
i hate french to an unreasonable degree because i can't figure out how to pronounce anything in it. which is why i want to learn it, because apparently the more i hate a language the more i want to find out why the fuck it does what it does.
I found the pronunciation a lot easier once I figured out what the accents etc mean. For some reason that was never considered an important topic in my mandatory French classes at secondary school???
I took french in school but I've forgotten much of the grammar (that apparently includes tenses that are basically only used in writing??) and my subsequent halfassed attempt to learn japanese seems to have derailed my ability to pronounce the vowels correctly. would probably help me get a job if i could check the lil box that says "mmyes im bilingual, jsuis un ananas"
i am in french immersion am going into a french immersion highschool as well been learning/speaking french as a second language since kindergarten second language mind you my grammer is probably shit i think its shit at least
Don't worry, everyone's grammar is shit in French. I don't know why people still care about the é.e/er thing, or ça/sa, aside from being pedantic, I guess.
Heh, I tried asking my French flatmate if I was using subjonctif correctly when we were talking the other day, and he was like. "Uh. Probably? Maybe? I don't remember."
I only know present, and only that because I lived with a linguist when I was in France. And I've forgotten most of the times it should be used. Je ne pense pas que je puisse yada yada yada
I took four years of French in high school and occasionally hang out in multilingual MMOs. Maintenant j'peux lire des BDs, but that's about it.
I love how everyone uses "j'[something]", because I'm from one of the few places where this is not a thing.
In writing I use as standard French as I can remember from school, and in speaking I use fairly-informal-but-definitely-not-hip-plus-noticeable-Toulouse-accent French. Is that even if the following word starts with a vowel? How does that affect pronunciation? (Actually, what is Corsican French pronounced like?)
Nah, we still use it for vowels. The Corsican accent is basically... I don't know how to describe it since, well, I see it as normal, but a very stereotypical version of it is the typical "mafia accent" for French dubs. We also have some weird ways of saying stuff, like "Donne-moi-[z']en un" instead of "donne-m'en un".
I just did it because I read a post once about how in some places (quebec? i hope so, i'd look like a dork trying to be Casually Parisian as a canadian) people tend to compress "je suis" as "j'suis" and it sounds like "chuis" (or "shwee" i guess)
