    There might be a general Discworld thread somewhere already, but I just finished my annual reread of Night Watch (a day early for the Glorious 25th of May, but I say it still counts) so I'm making one.

    Night Watch and Feet of Clay are my favorite Discworld books- what are yours?

    I can't pick one favorite, I'm just collectively not getting over Terry Pratchett. Possibly I will never be over Terry Pratchett.

    i cant deciiiiide
    but i picked the death books, because my first book was mort
    but i also love the witches, and the watch, and the lipwig novels...

    monstrous regiment and small gods were damn good as well

    HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO DECIDE
    (probably by getting my grubby fingers on all the books and reading them, bc when i started reading them i had trouble understanding them, and some of the translations were not made by alexander brandhorst who was hands down the best fucking translator for the series bc he went and made his own puns because translating puns is a bitch, whereas the other translations have annotations on how the pun is supposed to work)

    Night Watch is my favorite Discworld book by a country mile. Thud! is up there, though... to the point that i have Summoning Dark and Guarding Dark tattoos!

    honestly Sam Vimes is my favorite character in all of literature. (i say this as a literal English professor.) i love all of Sir Terry's work, though. Monstrous Regiment, Small Gods, Witches Abroad, all the Tiffany Aching books... so many wonderful characters, so much sharp social commentary.

    My first Discworld book was Thief of Time, and I suspect that had something to do with why it took me almost ten years to realize that the storm in Night Watch was the same one. Because my brain didn't quite connect those two books as "adjacent."

    I can't decide which series i like best, but the ones i seem to reread most often are Hogfather, Night Watch, Fifth Elephant, and Thud!. so i guess that works out to the Watch books being the fave? I bought Jingo for my ereader last fall but i haven't read past the first 50 pages or so.

    also i'm probably never going to read the last few books, unless Unseen Academicals was an outlier adn should not have been counted with regards to characterization and jokes. I don't think I even finished it? someone please sell me on this book if it gets good

    I reread Night Watch and Hogfather annually. Hogfather rereads are particularly important, because otherwise the sun won't come up.

    (And one of my favorite things about Discworld is that the plot summaries of those books are respectively "Les Mis but Javert is a good guy and Valjean is a bad guy and both of them are time travelers and Enjolras becomes a zombie" and "The Grim Reaper and his granddaughter the babysitter save Christmas from the forces of order.")

    wait, they're what???
    whelp that's a reread for me too apparently

    My first discworld book was A Hat Full of Sky, because I saw it in my local library and found the title beautiful and really intriguing, so I brought it with me without realizing it was part of a series at all. I loved it, but I loved a lot of books, and didn't fall for the series properly until way later, when I read... I think Soul Music? One of the Susan books, definitely, at which point I read all the Tiffany books, realized how many jokes I'd missed due to sub-par english the first time around, fell in love properly, and read things vastly out of order for a while until I found a guide.
    My favourites are all of the tiffany books, i love her so much, Thief of Time, Lords and Ladies, Feet of Clay, and Small Gods. I'm allowed to have as many faves as I like shhh.

    @Everett I cannot be trusted on the matter of Unseen Academicals because that was one of my first Discworld books actually but I remember liking it a lot and now I sort of want to reread it
    help i don't have time to reread all of Discworld

    It is a very hard choice, but the Watch (just) edges out the Witches and Death & Susan. As for favourite books, in no particular order: Night Watch, Jingo, Small Gods, Lords and Ladies*, Carpe Jugulum, Monstrous Regiment, and Mort.

    It took me several years to realize that Magrat's armour didn't have any iron in it.

    @hyrax *-* Those tattoos.

    Yup. It mentions that the lightning bolt hit a clockmaker's shop in the Street of Cunning Artificers (which is admittedly easy to miss since it's followed by a bunch of much more spectacular things it did), and the History Monks talk about Vimes getting caught up in a major temporal event. Somebody even uses the phrase "temporal shattering." Definitely the Thief of Time storm.

    Oh nooooo I just realized my copy of Night Watch is packed in a box somewhere in my ex's storage unit ;_;

    I had a really hard time deciding what theme to vote for, because - the Witches! The Watch! Moist! Rincewind! Every character in every Discworld book ever! (OK no that's an exaggregation.) But Night Watch is definitely one of my favorites <3 my brain is too sleepy to say something coherent about its awesomeness, so I'll limit myself to yelling
    THE INTERACTION BETWEEN VIMES AND VETINARI! And also TINY SAM!!!

    The Watch beat out the Witches by the smallest of margins, and that's mostly because Night Watch is one of the books I've read so often it's starting to fall apart. Witches Abroad is dead second though, with Monstrous Regiment following in third. I just love these books so much, and I cry every time a post about PTerry comes up on my dash.

    So hard to choose, but I have to go with the Watch. I have strong feelings about Night Watch, Feet of Clay, Thud!, and Sam Vimes in general.

    Going Postal is another one that has a special place in my heart, and I reread Hogfather every year around Christmas.

    I just loaded my queue up with half a dozen Night Watch posts.

    One of these days I'll fix my Night Watch tag so it has "freedom" in it, I swear.

    Uuuuuuh, the poll was so hard! Since the Watch, Tiffany Aching, and Moist series are basically tied to me. The thing that tipped my vote to the Watch was Sam Vimes.
