    Motive matters.

    Does not change end result. Does not make bad actions good, although can make good actions bad?

    But.

    Matters.

    For the sake of study here is the other rune Caryll made that I know is tied to Oedon. The Oedon Writhe rune. It appears to speak of a certain something within the blood. Caryll theorizes that specifically she is speaking of the unusual mucous found in all blood. It is a word she is intensely fond of if I recall the papers correctly. Which makes sense given her apparent wish for a child. We are born of the blood and made men by it, after all.

    Ah. Clown cultists don't have vulnerable young; trolls aren't viviparous. And I wouldn't go hunting them either. Remember, avoidance is the best defence.

    But you can't negotiate with people you sometimes have to disintegrate because they don't even notice they've died.

    Generally, it is not a good idea for a mortal to impregnate, or to be impregnated by, a being sufficiently powerful and arcane enough to have earned the name "deity". I've been researching arcane matters most of my life and it's just one of those things that doesn't tend to work out very well, like becoming a snake.

    Given that we've yet to find a successful example of this I'm inclined to agree that it doesn't tend to work out very well. All we have found is evidence of still births and births that very shortly resulted in death. Their children, even through humans and creatures like them, seemed as damned to death as their "naturally" born children. Unfortunately I'm not able to use myself as further data on this matter given my infertility. I'd like to try to give Ebrietas a child, both for the further of my study and for her sake. Sadly that's simply not possible.

    Shooting at me because I have resources: still shooting. Shooting at me because seen as threat: fair, but still shooting. Shooting everywhere because itchy trigger fingers: still shooting at me.

    Motive does not change outcome. Outcome-- affecting surroundings, living or not-- all that matters, even if outcome undesirable, unintended, and/or unforseen.

    It usually doesn't work out well for the mortal parent, either. Particularly not if the mortal parent is the one who ends up carrying it. This is not a good idea.

    ...and yet there are things you still don't know that I will never tell you.

    Motive matters. Understand motive, can ensure no repeat of outcome.

    If they are dead, no repeat possible. Except by other people, but then those people have own motive possibly different than first crew.

    Then, learn all the motives.

    Motives have that potential of getting really really muddied after a while. And while I still stand behind my faction decision I do think we should have learned that outcome is what matters around 4 million years ago.
    But! Then I'd also have been out of a job for possibly ever. Tough times.

    Too many possibilities, not enough RAM. Would rather dedicate storage space to more important things.

    More important things not seen.

    There's got to be an equation. To figure it all out.

    Cache locations. Known immediate threats. Current goal(s). Other various information necessary for survival.

    Storing some possible motives: efficient. Attempting to store all and process all for any given new situation: wasteful. Sorting through possibilities takes processing power and time better spent on immediate survival plans in hostile situation. Store externally, maybe, if threat likely to return, but internal storage space limited and prioritized for likely relevancy and ease of access.

    ...difficulty parsing context.

    "Granted": permission for opinion given?
    "Granted": point conceded, agreement reached?
    "Granted": information already known, taken as given, confusion remains?
    "Granted": [unknown fourth connotation]?
