You're not me. As Congessi also pointed out. You can send them to Jade. She gives them hell but she fixes them up.

And you can also do that if you choose to. My mother was very good at making it clear to them exactly how fucking stupid they'd been and exacting promises of self-improvement before agreeing to help.

Keep in mind that many of the treatments are painful and also remember that there are no rules against making them pay through the nose if they're assholes. Asshole tax is a time-honoured tradition especially given that asshole clients are much more likely to have money than the good ones are.

A lot of people who do it as their primary job bleed the assholes so they can afford to deal with expensive, difficult cases like Ford's, or cases that involve children.

*grins* So I can do that!

    Nice.

I thought that having an actual job meant like being nice to clients and stuff. *laughs* But I guess this isn't really a typical kinda job.

I've definitely tried to give my masters hell, but... ultimately, doing that didn't do much. I couldn't stop them. But you say I can stop my clients from being jerks, and well, that makes me feel much better. Much more in control.
*smirks* Asshole tax. I like the sound of that. Genies never had an asshole tax.

Your feelings are yours. Just... see no need to hold yourself to her standards?

Hm. Having trouble phrasing concerns. Expectations are... chains, in a way? Less visible than an actual binding or... whatever working was responsible for keeping Norm trapped, but chains. And do not see a reason to willingly submit to more chains, especially given Norm already knows how awful those obligations can be =[

Glad to see this tradition is alive and well elsewhere in the universe. Being an Official Representative is no fun, haven't even stopped on any planets with decent market systems =[

No, this is not like being a waitress or a prostitute. This is like being a doctor. When your client's problem is their own stupid fault, you are allowed to tell them so, and it it's because they're complete jerks, you are allowed to tell them they have to turn their lives around if they want to be helped.

Ah, yeah, chains. That's what they feel like.

But isn't everyone who tries to be good trapped in chains of their own making? In obligations and expectations and 'shoulds'?

I mean, being good doesn't really come naturally to anyone, does it?

Everyone has to chain themselves up somehow to do it, yeah?
    *grins* Like being a doctor?

Yeah, I can see that. I've definitely seen how Sev acts, and it fits with what you're describing.

"Good" very subjective. Personally see no need to be "good," especially by others' standards. Avoid hurting crew, keep them safe? Yes. Doesn't mean will do the same for random strangers who feel entitled to favorable behavior.

Self-made chains... yes, if that is wished. (Not everyone chooses Mala as patron! Eternal chaos is just as bad as eternal anything-else.) But parsed earlier posts as Norm trying to fit into Valiska's self-made chains, which... is not near so easy. Or favorable, in personal opinion. If Norm wishes chains for himself, should make his own boundaries and rules, not take one other person's own rules as absolute truth.

If Life Support ever has time to clear for examination. Still barred from off-ship excursions.

(...not that it will stop me. But would rather not have to watch for hostiles and suspicious Team staff.)

That was the only thing that saved the job, some days. (Not that I don't enjoy it. But dealing with idiots gets... tiresome after ten hours of sutures.)

Meaning: there are medics that don't point out why and how victim/patient got themselves injured? Why? Pointless to fix issues if just going to run right back into the same traps.

Sometimes it's also tiring to tell people to stop being idiots when you know full well they aren't going to listen.

Well, yeah, I guess I was. You weren't wrong about that.

And avoiding hurting the people I care about, keeping them safe... that I can do. That doesn't hurt the same way.

And I don't really know whether I want self-made chains or not. They just feel kinda necessary, really. Uncomfortable but necessary.
*sighs* I know what that's like.

    I know.

But usually the results of dealing with demons will get their attention. Not always, unfortunately, but usually.

...I would argue the point of "sensible," but. We do tend to have a near-unique perspective on the endlessness of stupidity and suffering? Unless you've got some white-tower cosmetics position or something.

The two medics I actually hangout with were both field medics during a very long war so no. Though Inject loves doing cosmetic stuff.
But I maintain that it's not stupid to turn up for my shift on the bridge right after waking up from surgery, it's my job

What is familiar feels best, sometimes. But... if uncomfortable, why continue? No rules saying you have to make those rules =]] Good part about setting own protocols!

...Fair, point conceded. Still unfamiliar with concept of unattached medics, having some trouble parsing the idea of medic and patient not trusting each other enough to listen to advice.
