No, I'm not fond of either liars (except for Stanley) or cowards. But "honourable death" is pretty cowardly in my opinion.

Honor is important. Dignity is... useful. But I know a thing or two (heh) about saving my death for something that really was worth it.

 

It's really not. You're there facing me down. Metaphorically usually, but the point stands. Tricky situation though. Could be it's less honorable to die or not at all. Lots of stupid people martyring themselves off for no real reason. People like the kid though? That's real. I may not like him. I may not respect his ideals. But I respect his death. It was honorable.

And you can bet I will face mine honorably. I've got to die. That's the way of things. Not just because of time shit, but for personal reasons. Bad guy's got to lose sometime. Some expansion on why his death is better than some two bit martyr without a cause. Kid had a chance to give in. Kid had a chance for a lighter death. Kid had a chance to cut and run, leaving behind his followers. Didn't though. Fought fang and claw for their lives, if not physically so. Spat on the official's offering him something easy. Wouldn't back down. Wouldn't renounce his beliefs. Spat on the Empress to the very end, even if "politely". Tried his fucking damnedest and went down well.

But I'm fucking tired of people throwing themselves against you or other personifications of Death because they think they deserve it. "Honorable suicide"? Duels? Fuck that noise.

And too many people take on some big cause they can never win because of something else they've done they think they deserve to die for. Not all martyrs are about the thing they believe in. Not really.

Agreed! Being true to your calling is important. Checking in to make sure you haven't burned yourself out is important. Throwing yourself at something just to die is not okay.

 

May I ask what you consider the difference between an honorable and a plain death?
Not that I actually give a scrap, but you know. Curiosity.

 

People killing themselves or putting themselves into situations where someone else will kill them on purpose in order to expiate some stain against their honour or some guilt that would be more difficultly, but also more effectively, handled by living out their lives trying to fix things.

 

Depends on the suicide. Could be honorable. Might not be. If it is might take it. If I could I would. Can't though. Long since gave up on that. Duels work the same.

Already covered the case of martyrs who aren't sincere in it. Them? Worse off for the death than before. Not fit to be food for worms. Not fit for a damn thing. I'd put them down myself just for the insult if I could. Can't though.

Let's relay my worknight. Typical night. Went out on the town in the capital. Scared a good couple of folks just by walking by them for kicks. Found mark's communal hivestem. Made my way up there. Knocked on his door, rap, rap, rap. Fellow opens the door and turns pale. I grin. Walks me inside and tries to reason with me. Some do. Never works, save when it has to because that's just how things play out. Not how it played out for him though. Took a bottle of rum off his table. Drank it and commented on it casually. He continued to shake in his boots. Scoffed at that. Coward. Told him as much, just to see if he'd straighten up. Didn't. Tried to tell me about his moirail. Needed help he said. Not my problem. Took the bottle upside his head. Wasn't expecting it apparently and he fell. Had another few good swings at him just because I could. Like the way trolls bruise. Like the way bones break. Still tried to get me to stop. Wouldn't though. Begged and cried. Was mangled nice and good before I took the needles to him. Fun.

Do I get my deserves to die card yet. I've got more stories.
