Igno+ring the weird nature o+f time in parado+x space fo+r a bit, my universe is the o+riginal tro+ll universe. We played SGRUB and entered the Medium and so+ o+n. Then we failed to+ do+ anything and o+ur Recko+ning was co+ming fast after three sweeps o+f useless ado+lescent drama. After so+me talking we decided to+ "scratch" o+ur universe. Basically it's a full universe wipe and reset. I'm technically no+t suppo+sed to+ exist in any fo+rm save as the Alternian me. Thro+ugh bubble shenanigans tho+ugh we managed to+ survive the scratch.

So+ no+w there are two+ different individuals who+ are bo+th "Po+rrim Maryam". Igno+ring do+o+med timeline versio+ns, o+f co+urse. Yo+u have myself and then yo+u have the Do+lo+ro+sa. We're bo+th the exact same perso+n. We have the exact same genetic structure and we're exceptio+nally similar in terms o+f perso+nality. Minus the differences due to+ o+ur circumstances. If yo+u stuck the Do+lo+ro+sa o+n Befo+rus instead chances are she wo+uld have acted almo+st exactly as I do+, co+ming o+ff mo+re like a do+o+med timeline Po+rrim. Bo+th o+f us have very similar fates to+o+. I'm no+t sure if that's a no+rmal thing o+r no+t tho+ugh? Things like my relatio+nship with Kankri, my hatred o+f my caste ro+ll resulting in rebellio+n, and so+ o+n carried o+ver into+ the o+ther universe to+ a degree. Either way I'm the Do+lo+ro+sa but no+t all at the same time. The Handmaid and Damara are the same thing. They're bo+th the exact same perso+n but also+ no+t.

It's o+ddly easy to+ think o+f this thing, fo+r me. A bit unco+mfo+rtable tho+ugh. So+me o+f the things that happened hit way to+o+ perso+nally, while the o+thers seem to+ have had a greater so+rt o+f emo+tio+nal distance between themselves and their Alternian selves. Which might be a classpect thing? Similar to+ ho+w Latula wasn't co+nfused at all abo+ut the differences between o+ur lives and theirs. I spent a certain amount of time after the initial Weirdmageddon event dealing with people who had met Stanford Pines, but had not met me.

Some of this was because my brother had stolen my identity. He had a criminal record that was several miles long and he needed to create a new one. (Also, to pay the mortgage on my house so he could reactivate the portal I told him to destroy.)

But a lot of it was because the timelines in the 46th dimensional sheaf had completely collapsed. There was this one fellow who kept leaving messages on my brother's phone. His name was Carlos and he lived in a town called Night Vale and he swore up and down that he did some graduate work with me once. My brother and Getheny went to talk to him because of course my brother's phone was in my name. Carlos and Cecil sound like people I would almost certainly like, but I've never met them.

Also, our neighbour Jim Gracen insists that he tried to hire me for the Gracen and Gracen R&D department after I got in trouble with the government for fucking up a government contract that, retrospectively, I really wish I had fucked up. He was very surprised that I was married to Valiska because when he met me I was married to Fiddleford McGucket, whom he also tried to hire. (I do have an ex by this name. He builds giant robots which are not sapient. And grows weed. Those are the only things from before 1982 he remembers, apparently.)

I have not heard of any alternate selves, however, that were not involved in the study of the paranormal, though some of them were definitely more scientist and others were definitely more sorcerer.

There's at least one that is completely a sorcerer and he always wears clothes like the ones I wear on Pennarion, only they're blue and frilly, and he managed to bind one of Bill's siblings. That guy is a huge asshole, though.

Oh, and there was that one time Valiska and I were in Dimension 634!* and--you're going to love this one, Stan--I was taken for the space pirate Stanford Pines (who also is into anomalies, though) who apparently travels with the space pirate Stanley Pines, and they say that they're married. To each other.

Don't think about that too hard.
