It's not like I'm going to give you the whole history of Earth. Just pick an event!

 

Quite possi8ly, though if there is it would 8e 8ecause it is a skill you picked up. At least assuming that alternate selves work similarly to how they do from my part of existence. There have 8een Araneas of different 8lood colors on different Alternias and different 8eforuses, 8ut they are all fundamentally the same individual. What differences are there are due to the differences in circumstance. I've come across an insuffera8ly self-righteous mutant version of myself, for example. Just as "long winded" and just as interested in history and stories, 8ut different varieties of stories and in different ways. She is amazingly 8i8liopho8ic for example, due to viewing 8ooks as too prone to the meddling of an oppressive government. I personally tend to gr8ly prefer 8ooks as they're very convenient, to say nothing of how lovely a well kept li8rary8lock looks.

 

That's the ru8 really. There's just so much history and so many potential events to share. It's very difficult to actually pick that sort of thing at the drop of a hat. Especially when stressed. I suppose my ancestor could 8e a natural enough starting point, though.

Books are great. All that knowledge to drink in! I just wish sometimes I had the time to spend the time in a library that I'd really like, but somehow the fate of the world or at least my part of it always falls into my hands and I must rush around madly and get no sleep and do really stupid brave things (is there a difference?) to fix everything.

 

Indeed! Oh, and it is always so lovingly organized when it is a good and proper li8rary8lock or li8raryhive. No needing to wander a8out 8lindly in the hopes of finding 8ooks on particular su8jects. So long as you know the organiz8ion scheme you can simply head to the relevant sections. It does take quite a long time to set up and maintain them, however. My own collection has only continued to grow over the millennia, necessit8ing further rooms in my hive dedic8ed to 8ooks alone.

I would 8e more than happy to share it with you, even if you will need to dash off soon. So long as no world shattering disasters are 8rought to my hive. It is already enough of a pain to keep things maintained with Damara messing with the 8ooks irregularly.

 

I'd certainly love to browse your library. I've managed to learn the Alternian script fairly well, though I miss cultural things a lot. Is Beforan writing similar?

At any r8 I suppose I will 8egin. My ancestor, who was named Vriska Serket, was a troll who came to 8e known as The Designer. As in game design. She specialized in various roleplaying games, and was the mastermind 8ehind my planet's iter8ion of the game FLARP. Similar to Alternia's version of the game FLARP was a live-action roleplaying game. It was nota8ly less extreme than the Alternian version. Even owning so much as a 8ase8all 8at without a permit was a crime, so you can imagine that weapons typical in Alternian FLARP would 8e hard to come 8y. The Designer also worked together with her then m8sprit, who was a rather shy and hum8le man named Tavros Nitram. Together they developed an intric8 card game 8ased around the 8reeding of and communing with animals. I never played that, however, or looked much into the game due to lack of interest. You will have to ask Zahhak a8out it should he ever show up.

To continue a8out my ancestor, The Designer was a remarka8ly friendly individual. She was something of a 8usy8ody, honestly. Always up to some sort of scheme or plot. She very rarely if ever rested, and she had a 8ad tendency to work herself to exhaustion or worse. She didn't just have game design rel8ed irons in the fire, however. Oh no. She had a very colorful romantic life, especially where the conciliatory quadrants are concerned. The Designer frequently took on moirails and frequently placed herself 8etween quarreling trolls as an auspistice. She was a top notch one as well, 8eing very respected 8y those she had to pull apart. However, her luck in the concupiscent quadrants was not so fortunate. Quite the opposite really. Whereas she had a supernormal knack for the conciliatory quadrants, she had very little understanding of the concupiscent ones. Each of her pitch and flushed rel8ionships were tur8ulent and short lived affairs, often prone to exteme vacill8ion. Her rel8ionship with Nitram in particular was very heated and resulted in the termin8ion of a module project they had 8een working on together.

There's a good deal more a8out her 8ut I suppose this can serve as a 8rief summary on her.

 

We use the exact same scripts, actually, so you're in luck there. We do have a variety of terms that are used very differently, however. "Culling" is pro8a8ly the most nota8le example. I have 8een compiling a sort of cross-comparison dictionary which you could make use of, however.

I'm suspecting that I might need to hide whether or not I know a8out a particular event. I've had a very long time to read through human history 8ooks. Admittedly anything past the 13th of April 2009 would 8e entirely new to me.

 

You are aware that there are lots of worlds with humans on them and slightly different versions of human history?

 

I am 8ecoming aware of that fact, yes. I am however making an assumption that her variant of Earth's history matches up with the one that I am familiar with. This may prove false in the end, 8ut it's a guess in the meantime.

Unless, you are speaking specifically a8out worlds that contain humans which are not Earth. Which again is a fact that I am 8ecoming aware of. In this case, I was assuming the case of Earth human history in particular. It was a case of misspeaking in that regard. Words that aren't specific enough. That sort of thing.

 

History is an oppressive institution controlled by the powerful and privileged, the victors of conflict. Every choice about what to commit to the timelines, who to highlight, how to word, is a prioritization of information, a forming of discourse that, without great care and a lot of self-reflection, will always favor those society already listens to.
Unified histories are a lie. Declaring some histories "alternate" histories is a hierarchization of knowledge and thus..... I can't think of a better word than "slag".

You're right! But that's why it's important to get as many primary sources as you can and try to reconstruct what actually happened, while knowing you can never get it 100% accurate even if people are still alive that were there when it happened, because memory distorts over time!

Listen, they aren't all bad some of them just. Didn't think. Or were MTOs. No one asked the MTOs which side of the war they wanted to be on. As for Captain Nichrome, I'd appreciate it if she didn't tar us all with the same brush based on who we were (or are). I believe that's one of the main things her illustrious leader objected to. The Autobots did plenty wrong, but so did the Decepticons. Flinch was just trying to leave the planet and the Decepticons killed him when they attacked the city, and we were almost conjunx. I think I'm doing very well to get along with you as well as I am.
