It just strikes me that DID isn't much fun at all and emulating it involves a fundamental degree of Not Getting It.
so recently I encountered a "system" (air quotes) who said that they had DID, and at first I gave them the benefit of the doubt. but then they kept talking about how sometimes their alters were there and sometimes weren't and sometimes headspace was there and sometimes it wasn't and I started to kinda doubt them a lot. and then one day they come to me and go "all my alters are gone. we integrated." like, poof!! integration. which is. not how anything works. anyway, I'd made a DID Skype group to try and meet others with actual-DID (three so far) and so they were in the group, so I kicked them, because this whole conversation about "we integrated!" happened in the group. and then. someone else in the group, apparently someone very misinformed, comes along and goes "maybe it was a system reset?" and I'm just. I'm seething right now. I hate whoever came up with the idea of a system reset because it's such total bullshit. you can't 'reset' your system, delete all your alters, and get brand new ones. it's just not possible.
For what it's worth, I was talking to a psychiatrist (about medication dosages, etc.), and mentioned the DID thing in passing, and he confirms that it's rare but definitely a thing. He figures it's a thing that results from (1) being very good at disassociating in the first place, (2) being traumatized.
hey, so, I've been cofronting for a bit with one of the others, and he'd like to say hi, so he's going to make his own account and take control of front! I will be gone for a bit.
I'll be interested to meet them! Bye, and stay safe, in, uh... Um ...The realm of your subconscious mind, I suppose!
Um, hello there! I'm Gavin....as it says in my username. Nice to meet you all, I think? I've been hanging around most of the day and you all seem decent people.
why thank you, Gavin! nice to meet you too. why don't you tell us a bit about yourself? I don't think Cedar has mentioned you before, and if they have I don't remember.
They, uh, probably wouldn't have--mentioned me, that is. I'm...kind of controversial. See, I'm...well, I'm based off a fictionalized version of Gavin Free, who's....a real person. And Cedar and the others are still not super comfortable with that, which is why they were kind of real hesitant to let me talk here. No one's really sure how anyone else will react. But, uh, I'm a bird hybrid, so I have wings in headspace, and I like video games, especially Minecraft, and I consider myself a fictive, not a factive. Cedar's learning to swap as needed. Right now they can manage letting someone else drive while they co-front--basically, with co-fronting, one person drives and the other's in the passenger's seat, and right now I am driving and they are watching and talking. They still can't fully switch out of fronting-space and into headspace.
I'm curious as to how one can end up with a "fictionalized version" of a real person, if you wouldn't mind explaining? like, is Gavin someone Cedar knows and for whatever reason... created a fictional version of? how'd that happen?
Well....what happened is Cedar read a fictional work, which involved Gavin Free and some other people from Achievement Hunter, as animal-human hybrids. And because obviously none of this was real, none of the events or anything are actually real, and because animal-human hybrids aren't possible, we consider it a fictionalized source. But it's really a very confusing gray area--no one's honestly sure if I count as factive or fictive. On the one hand, I come from a fanfiction. Which is, regardless of fan status, a work of fiction. On the other hand, I'm based off a real person, whether I come from a fictionalized source or not in the end. So it's...confusing. But no, Cedar doesn't know the real Gavin Free. He's...a famous guy or something? I dunno, I've watched a few videos involving him and some of the other Achievement people, they're moderately big? A few people I've talked to know who they are, more don't. But basically, the way they ended up with me is pretty much the way they ended up with the fictives as well: their brain went 'oh, this person looks like someone we have a need for' and made an imprint of me in their brain.
Gavin Free is a member of Rooster Teeth. Hey, Gavin, so I was comparing the original alter list Cedar made with the updated one, and an alter (Callie) seems to have disappeared from the list? Did something happen there? I'm not sure if you personally know, but maybe you can... Ask Cedar? I'm assuming that'd be possible if you are talking. Edit: also Rosie is gone?
huh, interesting! I think I'd count you as a fictive too, for what it's worth. these are the dangers of RPF, guys. :V
Well, actually, Callie integrated! And Rosie--well, we think Rosie's gone dormant? But we're not really sure. RPF...?
I think it's worth saying that personally I'd love to talk to a factive of myself, but that's probably just me.
