The initial shock is passing, especially the more distant this all becomes from Nacre's own experience. "That must be an organic thing, then, because Gems do have purposes. Quartzes are for fighting, Pearls are for service and decoration, I'm for making Pearls. I certainly wouldn't try to turn any of them into Quartzes. It would be cruel."
"Are you alright? Is - at your home, are things..." Almera hesitated. She had gotten a few courses in how to deal with children caught up in cases, but she had never been very good at it. "Are you safe?"
“If I were constantly and indiscriminately murdering people, would I be in a bar right now talking to you?”
"What do you-" Oh. OH. "YEP. We're fine, don't worry! Everything's totally fucking fine. Nothing wrong. Nope!" What could someone from a goddamn different dimension do, anyways? They'd talk about it, and then she'd leave, and Jake would still be creepy, and Zack would still be getting treated like dirt, and their fucking awful excuse for parents would still be gone, and, and. And if she tried to explain anything, she'd have to explain her first family, and that was something she really didn't want to do.
"No ve iz off duty. et leest hy hope @Frigg iz off duty." Mina glares at him. "Vell pipple thought hy vos goink to be for skrubbink floor before hy became a medic und den a jäger." Mina shrugs.
"Der iz no more ting her vhat need killink or brekkink, iz der?" Frigg says from where he's stealing half of Ara's black heterodyne. "Clearly iz time to tok to der pretty gorls und relax."
Katters checks the time on her phone. “Well, I’m not off duty,” she says, and sounds disappointed. “But screw it, work’s never done me any favours.”
"Dey said hy vasn't goot for ennyting before hy kem to mechanicsburg. Den hy beat op a bonch of soldiers. Turns out de jagers dun care vhat hyu got in hyu pents es long es hyu ken fight. Iz nice." She casually steals her drink back and grins.
A soldier and a healer. Made out of a janitor. Why would you do that. Aesthetically inspirational or not, Nacre is starting to want to run away before everything gets even more confusing, but that would be super undignified. She settles on "It sounds incredibly confusing."
"Iz hokay," frigg says, patting nacre's arm. "Hy iz chust for killink tings. Und mine boy iz chust for beink preetty. Ve iz not all as mul-ti-tal-ented as Sergeant dere."
Almera looked worried. "Are - well, if you say so. But - well, I don't know how this place works, but I think if you don't want to stay in your world, I'd hope it'd let you leave to other places. Where I entered from, the TSAB is pretty well-established, they take in kids all the time. I'd know, believe me."
Mina casually smacks Frigg and gives him a filthy grin. "Und for keepink Master Tiberui´s bed varm." She takes pity on Nacre. "Iz not zo hard. Zee eef hy em guessink right, hyu pipple iz made mit vun purpose right avey. Bot mit humanz iz not like dot, ve getz to find our purpose by ourselves. Zum pipple tink ve haff purposes ven ve iz born bot dot iz bullshit eef hyu ask me. Hy vanted to be a medic, not a servant, zo hy learned medicine. Und hy heppened to be goot et der fightink es vell zo hy got offered der Bräu und bekomm jäger."
"...you think it would?" If she could just leave, and go anywhere else... She could grab Zack, and get him out of here. He was the one who really needed to leave. And she'd go with him, because, well, he's twelve, he needs his big sister. She wouldn't ask her friends to go, but the bar was a gateway, wasn't it? She could visit. Even if the monsters trying to get in her head could follow her across dimensions, no one else could unless they really, really tried. And that would probably not go well for them. "Do you think I could bring someone else? Theoretically, if I needed to leave. Which I don't."
Almera thought for a moment. "Yeah, probably. Here, if you want, I can go with you now - if it'll let me through, then it should work the other way, right? Plus you mentioned monsters and such, and I'm not too bad for protecting. Scathach's good at it too, right?" She looked down, and the blue gem at her throat pinged.
"Yeah, that sounds good. It should probably work." She looked confused, but a bit happy, too. "I mean, I'm not sure why you want to, or anything, but I guess it's fine."
"I understand that, I guess." She sighed. "My little brother is at a friend's house, so there probably won't be any problems grabbing him. And it's not like he'll have any complaints about leaving."
