OOOOOOOOOOH. I never knew that!! I still don't think it's quite enough to get me to rewatch the second movie, but... I'm a little tempted, which is really weird, given those movies. Yeah imo it looks like 10x better than any Weird Product Placement alt-mode, it totally fits Soundwave as the guy who hangs back and dips his fingers into everything, and it looks alien and intimidating and weirdly beautiful.
Apparently it's canon in the bayverse that nobody else thinks Ravage is really sapient because he doesn't talk, but he actually does talk, it's just he hates everyone but Soundwave and thinks they're all morons. But he and Soundwave are equal partners and bffs. EDIT: Okay so Soundwave is still his boss but there's mutual respect there. How can Soundwave still be awesome in this canon?? LOOK AT MY BEAUTIFUL CHILD.
HA! That's awesome! Fuck, I am... actually kind of pleased with the Bayverse movies now. I don't know how to deal with that, emotionally. I mean, I am still very NOT-PLEASED with a lot of things, but.... this kicks some legit ass. The designs and the dynamic. I would not have expected either of those to be on point in these films. This is like, my second-favorite version of Ravage now. 'Fuck all of you so hard that I don't even care that you think I'm non-sapient, I'm only talking to this dude.'
To be fair the wiki says the details on his sapience and dynamic were from promotional and supplimentary material, since he never talks in the movies. Because he's normally shown in action, not really hanging out with Soundwave. But yes, glad they confirmed his sapience and explained what they were going for.
But yeah, this is why I think the bayverse movies aren't completely terrible. There's some legitimately good ideas and execution in there, even if I don't overall like it?
I can confirm though that the ride is better than the movies in a lot of ways. And also ships Meg/Op in spades. Also Evac is the cutest.
The non-humanoid designs are pretty cool. It's really the robot forms that are awful, because they're so exposed and cluttered and junky. They don't need disguises; they can just sit down and people will think someone left a scrapheap lying around in the middle of the street. The Ravage looks cool because there's actual paneling and there aren't bits of scaffolding and random pipes and shit sticking out all over the place. Ravage looks deliberately put together, and not like someone stuck a football helmet on the remains of a car crash.

I really really did not need the other autobots using the rest of the dinobots as steeds whent hey didn't even fight for the right. I was just. So uncomfortable. God. Yeahhhhh, the way dinobots are treated has become one of my bigger anger buttons for the various continuities, which is, uh. Hard. Considering how dinobots are generally treated. Also I've never seen the movie and I'm STILL unspeakably butthurt over how they decided to introduce Lockdown as a kewl new badass murder machine.
I lost track how many times me and @meowtini on the rocks road it. The wait was so short that with my disability pass we could pretty much get right back on after righting. We bought waaay to much merch. We will be Nest soldiers/agents at TFcon Chicago one of the days.
I definitely could see that.. Rodimus does have his insecurities, but even he didn't look at them closely at them until certain things in mtmte happened (I can't speak for the previous series, I haven't read it). I think on some level Rodimus was counting on Drift to support him unconditionally. Oh god, the bayverse transformers. Can't they redesign them to look more like the giant robots we all know and love?
I don't think Rodimus actually counts on anyone to support him without some sort of conditional, so agree to disagree. :)
Rodimus' friendship, plus support as being an autobot and/or possible Rodimus doesn't know. Those two are co-dependent as hell and weren't being really health for each other but I don't think any of it was consciously done. They both sorta clung to each other because maybe THIS person won't leave, betray, be disappointed in them. I think - and I'm not sure if Jro is going for this or not becaue I don't see Nyon get touch on in MTMTE really - they are kinda flip sides of a coin in some ways. They were both personally offered a invite to join the 'Cons by Megatron, they both 'grew up' (so to speak) in really run down areas. They both were betrayed by mechs they trusted on their respective sides before Drift went over to the Bots. This is just my reading of things though, and I respect others having other ideas about things. I know the Rodimus and Drift relationship can be read a lot of different ways. @spockandawe if you get a chance could you scan the text prose bag of Rodimus and Drift aguring about the 'taking the fall' for Spoiler: spoilers Overlord ?
