Not long ago I was toying with a modern human AU idea. It sort of fell through because I can't think of any non-sexual reasons for child trafficking that work in a modern context.
Suggested ideas for child trafficking: very skewed births. Like how in some countries, before it became illegal, families would abort girls and keep only the boys, resulting in a population disparity and no future wives. Or low fertility from accidental something reaching water system? Or heck, maybe some time ago there was a sickness that had low mortality, and didn't catch much attention at the time and spread mostly within a region, but later it turned out to really affect fertility in later years, and suddenly you have a big demand for children. Sure, one can adopt from other countries but let's say that they have very stringent standards and have their own suspicions and dislike of the country, possibly cultural differences that make it harder to adopt. A bit easier to just get a kid from a trafficking ring.
Also been thinking that the Veil/Bryony ship needs a version of "Sadomasopedorobonecrobestiality". I got "pseudo-incest hebephilic sado-maso-bestiality" but that falls apart because it isn't bestiality when they're both furries even if one is of a species which sometimes eats the other.
Pops my head in here to ask why you reminded me that I want to write Redwall fic. Why. I have so many fic ideas. You don't understand. The list never ends. But my ferret is so much cooler than other ferrets totally (lol probably not I haven't touched any of my Redwall OCs in like ten years wow). Bloodmask is a flawless name tho fight me I will never change it she's perf the way she is COUGH anyway my first book was Redwall itself. Sparras are my CHILDREN and I love foxes and Salamandastron. More Thread Necromancy; the wixcraft thread isn't familiar enough with Redwall so I'm wondering if anyone in this thread is familiar enough with tarot, because I want to design one. I got Matthias tripping over his sandals as the Fool; beginning card, first introduced character. Ublaz and his snake as the Devil and Abbess Germaine leaving the plague-filled Loamhedge as Death seem to fit pretty well. Not sure what else.
Put the events of Mossflower as the Tower? (Tsarmina's castle sinking into the river Moss) Possibly the two cats - Tsamina and her gentle ginger brother - as the card the Moon? Also Sunflash with his kestrel friend as the card the Sun? (I'm only terribly familiar with the earlier books, tbh.) What made you put Abbess Germaine as Death? (I don't remember her as being a plague carrier, or am I just being daft?)
No, she wasn't, but I was thinking of the card in the aspect of endings and change; she ended the life of Loamhedge and started afresh in Mossflower. I had an idea of the falling Joseph Bell for the Tower card; sudden change, release and downfall, which cutting a rope holding up a bloody great bell certainly is :)
Also, Marlfoxes might work for the Moon with the illusionist thing. Maybe use the other one from Loamhedge for Death and Germaine's hidden statue for the High Priestess. Also getting back into the astrology symbolism which is fucking fun. Matthias and Martin are such Aries. Name me a character and I can probably pick their sign.
