The 'is it okay to accept food while working' very much depends on each workplace, as far as I understand, and what their general policy is. If you aren't sure whether the company generally approves/disapproves, ask your boss about it for future reference. Here and at my previous job, they have been HELL YEAH FEED US, but there are situations where you might be in a position that could look like it's accepting a gift yeah. (I don't, for instance, control which students get accepted to the university or anything like that, I have no control over anything the college decides in fact I just work here, now give me some free treats!).
Oh i saw the biscuits and gravy post at the top of the page and it reminded me: my mom once ordered a "hot hamburger" in, I forget where, maybe quebec? And she was like, sure why not, but why's it specifically hot, do they serve cold burg? And it arrived...covered in gravy. Because that's what "hot" means in context of a sandwich. Covered in gravy, and therefore relatively soggy if you're expecting a dry burg
ok, so here in the berlin/brandenburg area, there's a dairy brand called "Mark Brandenburg", that has the most delicious peach/maracuja yogurt. and i kinda got used to seeing this brand in the stores in my 5 years of living here! so when i went to visit my parents down south in bawü over easter, and didnt see that brand in the stores, i was... confused, for a moment.
By the way, do any of the rest of you do chili mac? That's when you make a batch of macaroni and cheese and a batch of chili and then put the chili on top of your mac and cheese. I never had it as a kid, but somehow this unholy chimera of a dish is considered normal food at my mom's place as of the past year? It's delicious, but mysterious.
Nope. Do you put soy sauce on yours? I do. I picked it up from my grandpa and my nearest guess is it's just a thing he and other marines did while stationed out overseas. There's a lot of weird little food things that result from that sort of thing.
I have never put soy sauce on my mac and cheese, no :U Putting soy sauce on a non-east Asian food feels kinda like crossing the streams, as it were.
how do i know how to choose good fish sauce tho and how will i know if i like it they only have like, regular size and MAMMOTH size at my local asian market i don't want a bottle of fish sauce sitting in my cupboard for a decade o.o
i mean i've been curious about trying it for a while, but. and i DO know its mainly used in recipes, which could make using it easier, but idk.
Personally I tend to just get the large bottles of the stuff. The big ones with Thai writing on it. Tiparos or whoever in particular tends to be the sort I get. Granted I use it a lot so yeah. As far as how you would know if you'd like it... Do you like Thai food? If so you probably like fish sauce. Otherwise, are you into savory and salty a lot as flavors? Or do you not mind anchovies? You might like it then. One warning I have really is that a lot of people who aren't used to it think it smells rank as fuck. Because well it's fish sauce...
i adore basically all food even vaguely related to asia as long as its not too spicy. so I'm probably good. i was just worried the aged fish thing would be something my tastebuds aren't used to. but you know what, I've been intrigued for about two years about this stuff so next time i happen to go to my market i'll grab some
Good way to start using it might be to try making some Thai styled fried rice. Really easy dish to make and it's not too heavy on the flavor hell that a lot of Thai food is.
Apparently macaroni pie is one of the great Scottish culinary traditions. I've already had haggis and even vegan haggis, and I did actually like it, but macaroni pie has failed to impress me. The co-op also has haggis pakora and black pudding pakora, and I still have yet to try a deep fried Mars Bar, but there's only so much I can do...
Fish sauce sounds like the type of thing I'd get really into and start pushing the limits of how much I can get away with using. Dark Thai cuisine, take me away to flavor hell.
