I don't want to rule out that they aren't just... exactly as fragged up as Tarn. Seems unlikely that only one or two mechs would be that terrible.

Apparently some things are universal, whether mechanoid or organic.

I'm expecting anywhere from one to four. It'll be another week before I know how many I'm getting. I am actually hoping for two. A singleton kit is usually fussier than two put together. Four ... is daunting.

 

I'm assuming major differences in both environment and species here, given... it was your people who are driven mad by solitude, yes? Or am I remembering that conversation wrong? If so, it certainly makes sense that your... kits? come with companions in the normal way of things. As for surroundings: taking on more than one sparkling at a time in a resource-poor environment was... well. I regret nothing, but my bondmate and I may have gotten a bit ahead of ourselves! [They laugh, smiling fondly.]

To be fair, we also weren't bound to whatever biological rules your systems run by, simply because our species doesn't seem to reproduce sexually. Whether we can is... an intriguing discussion, not least because of certain internal mechanisms otherwise unused and apparently vestigial, but socially speaking it's unheard of. The more natural course for us is more akin to... fostering? Adoption? Whatever your people call it. In any case we have far more say in how many little ones we take care of at once!

Primus how do you get them to stop doing things like starting a fight with a vendor so the smaller one can steal snacks? They should at least take one of us with them if they go to steal things.

...teach the distraction how to disengage from fights without getting hurt, or how to be a distraction without actually fighting anyone? And yes, please don't let half-formed sparklings on missions alone, that's... that's not good. That gets them hurt.

Honestly, though-- they're going to take a few hits no matter how much you try to protect them. Unless the target gets seriously dangerous, let Birdy find out there's consequences for taking on mechs six times their size with no escape plan! A few bruises are well worth the lesson, and some sparklets don't take hard rules very well until they see for themselves just why those rules exist.
