I spent the day cleaning out our old apartment, so I am relaxing this evening with local cheap lager beer. Specifically, Grain Belt (the Friendly Beer, according to the label). What's on tap for your late May, early June Saturday evening?
I can't find Leinenkugel's Grapefruit Shandy here. I made do with the Summer Shandy (lemon) instead. I'm also a hefeweisen whore so El Hefe is a go-to for me (brewed in Katy, TX, so I cannot find it like anywhere else but it's sooooooo gooooooooooood). tl;dr spergs about beer all over your thread
I'm usually the opposite of a hefeweisen drinker--I like beer dark and heavy. But after a day of physical labor, cheap American lager a/k/a/ horse piss is just the right thing.
But not too much hops. Fucking hipster and their hops. I, in fact, have drunk bong-water and can report that yes--your super hopper triple IPA bullshit DOES TASTE LIKE BONGWATER!
I'm old enough to remember when Leinies--the Pride of Chippewa Falls--was the best of the local cheap beers. Now it pretends to be some sort of fancy ass crap.
I avoid the stuff in general and drink a variety of delicious American and English ciders. I'm going to go have one now, as a matter of fact. Harpoon Honey Cider is a bit too sweet, but that's the shit my husband likes and the dryer stuff I like has been drunk up by your's truly. Time for some sugary apple goodness.
My 3x g-grandfather had a patent for an improvement to cider mills. Basically, he replaced belt drives for the grinders with chain drives. I have the original letters patent with impressive seals. It might be fun to make one of his designs, since I have the plans.
We have an apple tree! The previous occupants asked us not to chop it down because the placenta for their daughter was buried in the roots. Ewww . . . .
That sounds really good, I'm the asshole who orders mead everywhere and can't handle the ABV but actually likes the taste. ... I shouldn't even be in here, I shouldn't be drinking on my meds, but if I'm not supposed to drink then why does beer taste so goddamn amazing? p.s. IPAs confirmed for the same taste of throwing up in your own mouth
in the back of my fridge i found one remaining bottle of magic hat 'elder betty' elderberry weiss, and it is glorious. it tastes exactly like the sunset looks.
Beer and cider are great, but good whisky is my drug of choice. Single malts are like drinking music to me, combined with drinking in the essence and magic of a place. Best I've ever had? 21 y/o Springbank. Current whisky lust? Highland Park's "Freya" limited edition, of course. A snip at $250.
