Spoiler The description on the dragon skull says that it's reaching out at the sun, longing for a taste. I derp'd and forgot about the solar essences and went "uh... sunflowers? Maybe?"
If I remember, the best way to try to get the Dwarf Scroll IV is actually digging in the dirt patches on the floor with a hoe on floors below level 81. It's how I found mine Spoiler: spoiler it is the goddamn best sword
So, an idea I had was to build so many kegs and barrels that I could process all the no-star hops and fruit my farm produces. Then the blueberry crop came in...
Yeeeaaaaah blueberry bushes give you... so many fruits. Also the pickling/juicing takes FOREVER for some stuff like bleh
Hi! I saw this thread and it really motivated me to get Stardew Valley, but I'm on a Mac and it looks like the game isn't coming out imminently soon for OS or Linux. I haven't read through the entire thread (only 3 pages) so sorry if this is reduntant, but I did see that other people lamented not being able to get the game for the same reason, and I wanted to share a link that shows me how something called Wine lets me run the game on my Mac (and should also work for Linux) using a wrapper without downloading things like Parallels or dividing my laptop's hard drive space. http://kotaku.com/how-to-play-stardew-valley-on-your-mac-right-now-1767514672 The guide says 20 minutes of setup, which is accurate if you have a good internet connection and nothing goes wrong! My quick advice wrt the things I personally did wrong at first is: the drive_c folder location is IN the wrapper you download, in case you need to find it because you accidentally moved something or whatever. @bornofthesea670 @ing you because I saw you mention wanting this but having a Mac
i've tried using wine but dang if i can't get it to do the thing :P might be because skyrim is just persnickety though..
Oooh. I'm no compsci person, but I feel like Skyrim might be more complicated than Stardew Valley, haa - you actually don't even have to download the whole program for Stardew Valley, I'm just running it through the wrapper without the entire Wineskin setup. I might've tried Skyrim myself sometime, but, alas, my Mac is a simple laptop and I don't imagine trying to run it on something like this would fly well.
hee hee hee finally got our third partner playing stardew >u< She says she doesn't really know who she's going to court yet but I notice she's giving Sebastian an AWFUL LOT OF PRESENTS.... -wink, wonk- we also share an identical hate for the fishing minigame.
What did I do D: Penny came in last night and I was like OH HI LOVELY WIFE and she was like 'why didn't you clean in here I don't want to come home to a mess after a long game of work' and I was like D: this is completely unexpected and I feel awful!! And then she stood in the doorway so I couldn't leave??? Why??? I didn't think there was a cleaning mechanic in this game so I haven't been cleaning? Is there one? I cleared out some of the furniture and put it in a chest but I don't know what's happening, are there secret stats that can make your spouse mad or is this a randomness this for accurate marriage simulation? (because, I mean, irl your spouse has bad days. fair enough if it's random.) I talk to her at least one a day/kiss, bring her gifts more often than not, avoid gifting/talking to other bachelor/ettes.... have I been doing something wrong or : < It was just very sudden and it shocked me, this sort of thing makes me very anxious, like, oh god, what did I do, am I a bad wife ADDITION: ye gods she's down to 11 hearts, what the fuck am i doing WRONG, should I not be talking to other bachelor/ettes at all? Should I have stayed in since she hinted that she wanted to stay in from the festival, i think? what the fuck am i totally missing a mechanic I should be doing? What's WRONG I'm putting this down for a while
Spouses complaining about cleanliness is the game's very oblique way of telling you that something is obstructing their pathing around the house. Since they can't just barge through and destroy things like they can out in the world, anything blocking their pathing in the house will get them stuck. Try following her around at home for a day to see how she moves around the house and what might be in her way - she'll for sure need access to her side of the bed and the stove. Maybe make sure there are no blocked off corners with free space in them. It's kind of a dumb mechanic, tbh, especially since it penalizes the player for something they may not even realize is happening.
I STARTED PLAYING YESTERDAY and it is the reason ive been slightly less active on here AHHH I cant decide who to marry also I just got to four friend hearts with shane and he immediately sent me two letters i jumped from 1 to 4 hearts with him cause i gave him beer on his birthday X) deciding between harvey, sebastian, and leah for marriage will fully befriend abigail too, but not marry her, cause kaylotta did and i dont want to marry the same person as my sister :I
the Mac/Linux versions are now out, if anybody is wondering! I just bought it. well, actually I bought it like two hours ago, because I have been busy since then trying to install Steam without using the Applications folder, since that's admin-locked and I do not know the administrator password. I figured it out! it involves using your particular user's applications folder, which is apparently a thing that exists. I feel very accomplished and also Technologically Literate, especially since I have no idea what the fuck I'm doing when Finder is involved. anyway, I'm probably going to spend the next 24 hours straight playing Stardew Valley, and it is gonna be awesome.
hasn't been 24 hours yet, but I do have preliminary results: was awesome, farming is extremely soothing. I don't particularly want to do anything but farm, though. relatedly, my reflexes and/or skill with computer controls are shit, so I am really bad at a) moving and using tools generally, b) that goddamn fishing game, and c) combat in the mines. this last is definitely the worse (although I have accidentally destroyed around $1000 worth of crops by swinging an axe/pickaxe where I shouldn't've), because I got killed by one of those fucking rock crabs on level 6 of the mine. not only is this extremely embarrassing, it resulted in me losing four items, and one of those items was my sword. and as I had not yet killed ten slimes, the Adventurers' Guild won't let me in, so I can't even buy an exorbitantly-priced new one. I have no idea what do, and I'm probably kinda fucked, honestly. can you kill enemies with anything other than a sword??? also, what level is the first sword the mine gives you on?
Yeah, tools deal damage. Crappy, crappy damage. I think the sickle is your best bet, it doesn't have the slow speed and stamina cost of the other tools and you might even be able to block with it? But you're going to have a hard time getting to a sword chest or drop doing one damage per swing. Get the adventurer's guild open and buy something cheap. By the way, autosave happens when you sleep. I usually prefer to quit the game when I get knocked out and redo the day instead of eating the money and item loss.
oh, good! I'll use the sickle, then. I only gotta kill like seven or eight more slimes to get into the Guild, and even I should be able to manage that if I bring enough food with me. and then I'll buy like the wooden sword or something. I seem to remember there being a wooden sword? and yeah, I did know that about the save, I just... didn't remember that that was an option at that particular juncture. probably because of watching LPs where the players don't do that kind of thing. :/ thanks so much for the advice, though!
update on my save file: going great! I've logged 72 hours so far, which sounds fairly reasonable for having had the game for 19 days, except that most of those hours were logged in like 12-hour binges, not in anything resembling reasonable chunks. I am in the late fall of Year 2 and have made a stupid amount of money; I think my total earnings are almost at a million, and even though I'm spending like crazy (for instance, buying all my wood, stone, and ore instead of taking the time to get them myself) my savings are always hovering around 100k or so. daily I average about... mm, 10k income? some days I break 20. I credit all this to the fact that I got three Ancient Seed artifact drops from bugs, and Ancient Fruit a) grows in Spring, Summer, and Fall and b) earns a ridiculous amount of money when turned into wine. since getting a Seed Maker, I have been very busy, and consequently I have 32 Ancient Fruit plants growing merrily in my greenhouse (all of them sprinkler'd) and 6 in my regular crop plots, which will unfortunately die when Winter hits. :( also I have a ton of kegs and the Artisan profession, as well as a Deluxe Barn, a Deluxe Coop, four regular chickens, a Void chicken, four ducks, two rabbits, five cows, two goats, three sheep, two pigs, and the machines to turn all of their products into Artisan Goods. (except for the Oil Maker, that is; I'm working towards upgrading my axe to Gold so I can get the hardwood for that.) also all my animals are named after Homestuck characters, except for my cat, who is Rita (of "this is Rita we love her she's orange" fame). Spoiler: list of animals' names if anyone cares regular chickens are Jade, Rose, Jane, and Roxy, and it is very upsetting to me that their colors do not correspond to canon (i.e., Jade is white and Rose and Roxy are brown); Void chicken is Karkat; ducks are Terezi, Latula, Eridan, and Feferi; rabbits are Kanaya and Porrim; cows are John, Dave, Jake, Dirk, and Tavros (John is white and Dave is brown, which is again very upsetting); goats are Gamzee and Vriska; sheep are Aradia, Damara, and Megido (Megido is named thusly because Damara gave birth unexpectedly; my normal system is to wait till an animal gets to five hearts, then sell it and replace it with an identically named baby, but Megido came early); and the pigs are Calliope and Caliborn. so yeah, I'm rolling in it and very content with how things are going. my greenhouse also has 32 assorted sprinkler'd high-value continuously-bearing fruits (8 strawberries, 8 blueberries, 16 cranberries) as well as two peach and two pomegranate trees (do fruit trees in a greenhouse bear continuously?), and once winter hits I'm planning on growing a couple lines of high-value one-shot crops (starfruit and either cauliflowers, melons, or pumpkins). most days I don't have time to do anything off the farm, which is kinda annoying; I'm only at level 55 in the mines, I hardly talk to any of the villagers, and I have not caught a single, solitary fish. I have managed to find the time to befriend, woo, and marry Sebastian (mostly by dint of buying a Void Egg off the Traveling Cart, incubating it as soon as I had an incubator, and thereafter drowning him in Void Eggs as often as possible, since they're one of his loves), which I am very happy about. he's adorable!!! I can give him gifts every day!!! I can kiss him by right-clicking on him!!! he loves me!!! sometimes he waters all my crops!!!! A+, would marry again. anyway, I'm having a gr9 time. totally worth the $15 and the existential crisis induced by figuring out how to install Steam. :D
