    Lambda everything happens so much

At least the first movie tried with vaguely different designs, by the second they were all blurring together.

I had suspected Ostaros was still alive, and him being Springer explains why Prowl would never just say so. Although, thinking on it, I don't think Prowl would have given him up even if he was Random Blue NPC #413, but Springer was right there in Tarantula's reach and that's why Prowl couldn't say so. He's a mean, emotionally dead asshole but he still has a spark of caring in him.

Impactor just makes me angry, always.

I'm glad Verity got out of there.

Also we all know that Cybertronians are fucking horrible at guessing organic life spans, and Tarantulas likes to go over-the-top anyway. I kinda have to wonder if Verity is, uh. Not just healed, you know?

...as much as I dislike Tarantulas, I do feel sorta bad he couldn't get a message to Springer. But at the same time, if he'd not devoted himself so totally to revenge and tearing down others and torment, well. Maybe he could have talked to Springer another time. Him losing the only thing he loved (but Springer surviving) was actually fitting?

Yes, this!!! That was an emotional touch I really loved (slash that really hurt me). I am so weak against parental emotions. Like... Tarantulas was not a good person and did some awful stuff and did not deserve to get everything he wanted. But the last thing he did was going into what he must have at least suspected was a deathtrap, trying to save Springer. The best I can parse those last bits of dialogue is that he's telling Springer he has to get out, he can't lose him again, and that he loves him. While the explosion went off and he was dying, if he saw Springer making it out safely, I think he would have been okay dying like that. I just really like the emotions getting balanced there.

I guess my final impression is that I was left thinking 'well, I'll see how this goes' instead of 'HOLY SHIT THAT ENDING' or 'my feelings have been so punched they are dead', and that's... nnnot exactly what should be the case with this writing team? I loved SOTW, but somehow they didn't stick the ending for me.

Exactly! But part of where that falls flat to me - not in the execution or the writing - is that Tarantulas doesn't know Springer. He only cared about Springer when he realized Springer was his creation. Ostaros, too, was by Tarantulas' own words an empty slate at the time they were separated. Tarantulas wanted to save Springer out of parental love, wanted to express his love, but I feel like there's also a bit of egotism there, especially since this is Tarantulas we're talking about. Like, irony of ironies, Prowl has actually been more of a parent to Springer than this weirdass spider dude.

As for Springer being young... yes, but we don't know about the colonies. I get the impression the colonies don't have the same 4 million year cut-off of forged life as Cybertron has? Or, more to the point, we don't know. In the RP that's going on Kintsugi we're saying the colonial hotspots are... somewhat still active although 'batch' size and regularity is dwindling, to the point where there are some Devisens that are like 250 years old, but only 42 of them, which is a ridiculously low size for a generation even in as long-lived a race as Cybertronians.

I guess the question is how sparks form in hotspots, since it's at least believed that the hotspots on Cybertron and the moons are only due to Vector Sigma sending out signals and that while hotspots can remain active for a long time, new sparks don't necessarily form. For instance, when they time-traveled back to Alyon, Optimus and the outliers apparently saved all of the sparks from that hotspot, which then disappeared?

Also there's a tiny spider in Springer's rear wheel well in the last panel.

Yeah, but it's canonical that weird gravity dead metrotitan shit on Devisiun results in exclusively twinned sparks, so I presume those are new sparks forming there?

Allenna I am not a Dragon. Or a Robot. Really.

*bands fists on table* Give me sparklings!

In Windblade V2 part 5 stated that the metrotitan crashed and "so our sparks became subject to those forces". I'm not sure whether that means sparks formed on the planet or carried by the titan, but at least to me that reads more like the sparks must have already existed at the time of the crash.
I think the revelations at the end of Redemption wouldn't be nearly as meaningful if there were any hotspots from the colonies; otherwise the Camiens wouldn't have been so upset at losing the sparks they were carrying. Upset at losing sparks, yes, but not so "this is the end for Caminus".
Anyway, this is certainly not to say that there are no more sparks in storage or still lying in old hotspots. Rather, I'm somewhat doubtful that there are still sparks being formed, except maybe those discovered in Redemption.

I just watched the prelude and I don't know what to make of it. Some of the details seem like the IDW universe (cybertron rebooted, optimus is no longer the leader) but then suddenly megs is laying there, asking for death? I need to finish Robots in disguise and read the combiner wars.

Hey now, sparklings aren't even remotely canon and that would undermine the whole 'immortality balanced out by the fact that they can't reproduce' thing.

Mass displacement is the only way to explain why Overlord is a bit bigger than Ultra Magnus in volume 4 and suddenly is about the size of six cyclonuses in issue 54. Cyclonus' alt mode is much larger than his robot form (enough to accommodate two minibots in a roomy cockpit).

It makes sense that Overlord would shrink himself. If he had been any bigger, it would have been impossible to move around freely on the Lost Light.

Just gonna post this cover art for SOTW 5, one of the alternate covers. I actually really like Verity here, she looks like crap. ...I mean, it's fitting!

It keeps happening... Honestly, what is it with Decepticons and ripping cats in half?

You guys weren't kidding. There are some definite parallels between the Combiners and the Fusions. Prowl & the constructicons basically turn into Sugalite and it's brilliant, there's even the thing where the bad guys calls him an abomination. The cartoon could have inspired some details in the comic. 'Giant Woman' came out in 2/24/14 and issue 30 was released 6/?/14

There's a reason all of the image descriptions on Victorion's page on TFWiki are Garnet quotes.

Pft, thats perfect. I hate the wiki because it buries all the info in long, drawn out text descriptions (i swear, if the series character pages had info sidebars like on the homestuck wiki, it would be so much better.) but i also love it for the snarky image caption.

@applechime im reading tgwp now and it's all your fault. Jazz is hugging all his friends and everything is awful, which is great. I gasped when First Aid showed up, suddenly a character i knew really well was a slave in this awful setup, i swear to god, if he's being mistreated...*shakes fist*.
