oh shit, I'm pretty sure I was going to write a prank and then I got distracted by graduation and moving and wtnv *checks* yehp, that was where I left off with my storyline #i am pretty sure this is my fault somehow #whoops #i'll have something up in a few days :D
it is definitely helping with not beating myself up over it since these are all important things that I needed to have done! :D (I should reread this full thing so I remember what the hell I was planning on doing, too)
Definitely. Rifka has abused her veela powers to perpetuate myths about Mothman/flying aliens/whatever.
The living paintings play an important role in setting the atmosphere of the magical world in Harry Potter. I think it'll be really fun to explore Sage Canyon through traditional Native American art, especially that of those in the Southwest region, with moving sand paintings, painted pottery, and even rugs and tapestries. I'm just trying to get a proper image in my head of Sage Canyon's interior.
not necessarily NA art but okay WHAT ABOUT LIVING TAXIDERMY. like living statues only dead animals. for each of the dorms.
I just reread this entire thing because I have internet and also miiiight be toying with the idea of forcing my team members into a Sage Canyon Academy d&d game. at any rate !!LIVING TAXIDERMY = yes awesome also imagine a graduate of SCA working briefly in the muggle world and being a big environmentalist because "yeah i talked to the taxidermied animals at my school and they really hated how the water tastes downstream from chemical plants" "..." "Uh, I mean, chemical run off is really bad for the environment, which i learned from an enviro class in my school. uh huh." I want to do an almost cave feeling - but, like, homey desert tunnels? I guess mostly that the hallways look very natural instead of manmade, as if the place had been grown rather than built. and of course, high ceilings in places, and gorgeous art (and maybe murals, from modern to cave paintings)
Yeah I was thinking of a kind of cavelike interior as well but wasnt sure if that's what other people were thinking. I don't know about the animals talking unless you do something first. like, they move around and stuff, but if you stick out your tongue and cross your eyes at one, it's like "hey buddy, that sure is an odd face you're making. Did I tell you about the time when....." Kind of a secret you have to discover for yourself, like a hidden cheat code or something?
oooooh. yeah i like that. especially because SCA seems to be so much about secrets within secrets. devilishly inquisitive, those american students are
Yeah, and there isn't just one of each animal, I think, but a few of them. The entryway isn't huge, I don't think, but there's room for more than just one of each.
Incidentally, I think Rifka had a hand-me-down or secondhand wand while she was younger or in her first year, but at this point I think her wand is ironwood (one of the weird kinds found around the school) and veela hair from her mother. Also, I kind of want there to be an (NPC?) student who is a transfer from Hogwarts who, well, they mean well and aren't stupid but they read a lot of textbooks made by people who had no idea what they were talking about. Especially with the recent Ilvermorny stuff.
@peripheral Here is the OOC thread for the Sage Canyon game! It is an RP set in a wizarding school in the American Southwest. Sage Canyon is a school for the weird, the people who are knotted-up inside and for whatever reason can't work at the other American schools (America definitely has more than one wizarding school. There's a preppy New England one that might get conflated with Ilvermorny, who knows, and various others.) Sage Canyon is run by the Headmaster, a eldritch horror extradimensional Being(?) interested in protecting and nurturing the students. The school itself is sort of at the nexus of various alternate dimensions and rifts and leyline weirdness, resulting in the landscape around getting... odd. There's river monsters and a giant Tentathing in the lake, and occasionally the school is nearby to Night Vale. Current staff members include 'granny teacher trying to convert the Headmaster,' 'no-nonsense practical-solutions (in the vein of silver bullets) DADA teacher,' and 'Hogwarts-educated foreign prof.' There's six dorms, each of which is themed after an animal. There's Bear, Turtle, Coyote, Eagle, Jackrabbit, and Raven dorms. You basically get to pick your dorm, and each one has its own sort of... trait? It's currently the first day of school-ingame, with everyone filtering off the magic school buses (which are set up so that you always fall asleep on the ride into school, only waking up when the bus arrives) and saying hello.
(slowly slinks back into here) How are we going to deal with the Official America Lore here? Obviously we're going to throw a good most of it out but should we full on disregard anything not in the books, or should we call Preppy Northeastern School Ilvermorny and leave it at that, or...?
