My universe is young, from what I've gathered, and still evolving. Apparently nobody quite understands what it's becoming, and I'm no wizard. I just try to save people and fix things where I do understand, and hopefully am not put in a position of messing with things I don't understand without very good advice from people who've studied more than just history.

 

Please consider the following offer: Depending on how I can wing it would you and your twin be willing to wear a purple badge if only so I can declare you two part of my personal staff and thus under my protection? Because I am getting really cranky at the number of aftholes who apparently want to frag you over regularly and I am not shy to abuse my position to make sure they stop.

Sounds more like it'd be a disguise to me. It wouldn't change who you are, it'd just put you in a more convenient position. That's like how I became a fairy godparent once, in an attempt to escape my lamp. Sure, I had the job and was considered part of the fairy species, but that didn't mean I cared about the job or identified with the species.

In my core, I was still the same person, and still identified with the same things as I always had. I just wore 'prettier' wrapping paper, that was all. *chuckles* Metaphorical wrapping paper. Not literal wrapping paper.

So, yeah... sometimes people have to put on disguises to make their lives better, make the self they show the world different than their real one. And what's important, for that, is knowing that the disguise is not really you and that you can trash it once/if it's no longer necessary. Who are you, what makes you you, your identity - that's not a matter of what badge you wear or whether you have wings or anything like that. Those things are just frills. You are the thing beneath the frills, the thing that's there even when you don't know who's side you're on, the thing that's there when no one and nothing else is.

I'm not joining the Decepticons. I don't even know what that would mean. I don't understand the history or the culture or anything, even though I'm trying. And I appreciate the offer but it's not even going to solve the problem.

 

Well... then maybe you should've said that in the first place instead of making it about your identity.

 

But it is about my identity. Group narcissism is a thing, and I've been down that path before.

... Maybe I should have let Ref ask, I'm known as a bit of a fanatic but his story with joining is... a little different.
If it helps anything to put you at ease my reasons were simply practical and I would not have expected you to join in earnest without having adequate information. That being said a lot of the things you vocally complain about in here remind me of myself a good four million years ago. Which is to say if you and your twin had been Cybertronian and already forged at the time I would not have been surprised to see you on the barricades beside me.
But I will also reassure you that my looking out for you two does not hinge on whether or not you wear a badge or not, or even which badge. I look out for those under my command. No hooks attached.
