These people are TERRIBLE. I mean, COME ON, "Vitamin B-17" should be a euphemism for solving your problems with high explosives, not a misnamed poison!
I had a huge long post written in response to this but just couldn't get it to go right. Basically: AaaaAAAHH who the hell decided to call a poisonous, cyanide-yielding compound a vitamin and make it sound as harmless as B-12 or whatever??!!?? It doesn't matter if you have rhodanese/rhodanase or whatever, cyanide is still dangerous, and even if you're taking it in "safe" quantities, chronic exposure negatively affects your health! Who the FUCK decided to market this shit as a cancer cure?!?!! Why are people like this?! Apologies for excessive punctuation and capitalization; I just get upset about this kind of stuff.
Apparently according to Ryk Spoor, who I linked earlier, it's not that big a deal because you would need to eat massive amounts before the poison got you. I still think it's creepy, wrong and dangerous to market them as a health food/natural remedy though. (I can imagine a kid snacking on them thinking they were almonds, since that's what they apparently look like. Though I think they wouldn't taste very much like almonds I don't think. If they aren't tasty=less likely a kid might poison themself.) Some people are scared/don't trust prescription medicine because it isn't "natural." I would suggest economic factors might play a role, but from what I've seen "natural remedies" are just as expensive if not more so than over the counter or prescription medication.
In my brief conversation with Ryk Spoor (linked above), he suggested that cynanide would not be good for a long exposure lethal toxin (if that's what they're using it as you apparently have to eat tons before you get poisoned). The usual go-toes are arsenic, lead and thallium.
Cyanide has a bitter taste. It's also found in almonds, actually. I think almonds and apricots might be related? Edit: they are! But almonds are more closely related to peaches.
Arsenic and Mercury are natural too. A single drop of dimethylmercury on the outside of a latex glove will kill you.
Because you think it's an natural, traditional medicine full of an imaginary vitamin? And you don't trust "Big Pharma?" So there must be some kind of secret natural cure that They're hiding so they can make money.
Yes. Pretty much! I was so surprised to see herbalists on Tumblr who actively warned about side effects and herbal/prescription medicine interactions! I was under the impression that people using "natural remedies" thought that "natural remedies" were inherently free of side effects because they were somehow more "pure" than prescription or over the counter drugs, due to not being processed.
You wouldn't believe the amount of people we get in the GPs practise who are like: 'Well, I don't really like to take pills...'
And like. Some people legit have swallowing issues. But holy shit you're not going to die if you swallow a pill
Nyquil/Dayquil pills when you have a sore throat. I hate those so much. Why are they so goddamned huge. I can't decide whether liquid medicine is more horrible than pills or not. It would be nice if some medicines came in liquid form, as an alternative, even if the liquid form tasted like death.
I am glad that my family, despite a penchant for some herb remedies, takes following Doctor's instructions very seriously. Taking a garlic and echinacea pill when you feel a cold coming in is all well and good, but if it's bad go to the doctor and don't you dare skip your antibiotics and contribute to microbes with resistance! Take ALL of them even if you already feel cured he said ten days not six! Mom was very affected when her uncle died after deciding to avoid chemotherapy or other more conventional medical treatments and instead focused on his macrobiotic diet, all the while talking about the amazingly healthy Japanese diet. He was a brilliant and intelligent man, worldly, cultured, a great painter and he caught some moonbat trends and died with a clear mind and a few healthy years still left in him. Nobody is immune to loopy logic :(
... Come to think about it he probably did not have a good scientific grounding to life seeing as he basically started studying art seriously at 13 rather than regular schooling, so while he might have been a gentleman of literature around the world, converted a Jehovas witness to Budhism, and shown a keen grasp of the arts in general (I miss him I'm not exaggerating that he was brilliant), it makes sense that his intellect did not factor much into choosing a proper medical treatment.
