    @Avery
    you're not gonna be starting with weights high enough to actually injure you. like--it's recommended, with, say, lifting/squats, that you literally start with an empty bar and only fight against your body weight. that's how you learn the form and move up to the bigger stuff. BUT. i understand what you mean. personal trainers are pricey as hell though so i think if anything you may want to see if there's a gym near you. planet fitness has incredibly cheap membership fees and is open 24 hours.

    i want to try pokemon go but i still can't walk more than two or three blocks without ending up in hella pain. i'm legit considering getting a wheelchair just so i can tool around looking for pokemon. i've resisted the idea for so long because i know abled people can be real dicks about policing wheelchair users who aren't paralyzed, and i can stand and walk for 10-15 mins as long as i sit down for an hour or so between. but dangit, it sounds so FUN. and i miss most of my town.

    on the one hand, motivation to try hard at my physical therapy and get better. on the other hand, it's not like i've been slacking, and my recovery has been so SLOW.

    My phone doesn't have storage for Pokemon go, but my sister got it, and she's visiting, so we went on a short walk and caught like four within a block of home.

    @jacktrash IMO, if the wheelchair would help you now, you should go for it, even if in the future you recover enough that you don't need it. It's what you need now to get out and around the town and do something fun! That's something you deserve no matter where you are in the recovery process!

    lightweight wheelchairs are only about a hundred bucks, it turns out. and my arms work just fine. i am seriously looking into this. i wonder if i need a special kind to be able to go on grass and dirt trails; i'd love to be able to go around the arboretum again.

    @jacktrash Go for it! (do you....... do you see what i did there...............)

    I've been considering getting an internet plan on my phone so I can use Go, I've only ever had prepaid call data before this. I'm just afraid I wouldn't go out enough to justify the cost. But god this is the most tempting 'go outside!!' thing I've seen for SO LONG. Pokemon is so good you guys ;~;

    @jacktrash adding to the excited chorus of do it do it do it dO IT DO IT DO IT!! get fingerless gloves like ash ketchum and wear them while you flip off the haters. bonus points if you do this with the additional arm muscles built up from using the wheelchair

    I really really want to start getting a bit more fit, I want to have big strong arms and to be slightly less chubbers

    but I'm pretty sure I have ADD (not officially diagnosed but... yeah) and I have a terrible time motivating myself to actually do exercises because it's focusing on just ONE task and that's not enough, I get bored and need to be doing at least one other thing like playing a game or talking to friends. Even just watching something doesn't feel like enough. I've tried doing the tappy game thing, but the problem is I want to be doing the tappy games WHILE I am doing the workout, not in between reps, and I have a tendency to get distracted by the tappy game.
    I once managed to hook up my computer to the TV so I could play Dragon Age while on the elliptical machine at my parents' house, but I don't live there anymore and there is no such thing I can do now.

    Pokemon Go is a bit of a help in that it at least motivates me to go walking to catch all the pokemans, but at the same time it is the middle of summer in Georgia and it is hot as balls so that takes a bit of the motivation out of it.

    ANYWAYS the point of this rambly thing was to ask if anyone has any ideas on ways to work around this? Any exercises I can do that'll still let me play games on computer or at least talk on Skype while watching a thing and exercising?

    @raginghearts What comes to mind for me is books on tape, which is what addresses that problem for me. It takes enough of my brain to process words without the aid of text or seeing a mouth move that it counts as like 2 or 3 tasks instead of one, and everything else can go to "move legs on treadmill and dont fall down". Unfortunately, this wouldn't help if you don't like books on tape or they're not engaging enough for you. I would be interested in exercises like you describe, because I think that would be useful for me also.

    I've sort of tried that but with podcasts instead of books on tape, but I tend to accidentally tune the voices out a few minutes after I start and then I'm bored again and want to do something else. And then I get frustrated because I have to go back and re-listen to the same thing over and over again just to comprehend what it's saying :C

    Today I biked around the lake THREE TIMES IN A ROW! Then I got out my longsword and chopped down about half of the shrubberies and young trees that my neglect has allowed to grow alongside the house.

    i would invite you to come chop down my unwanted shrubberies, but they'd probs just grow back from the roots.

    18 miles!

    I was doing really good for about the first 15 miles of that. Maintaining a good steady pace, feeling fine. Then my body seemed to decide "Nope. Fuck this and fuck you." And the last 3 miles were pure suffering.

    The trail was really nice, though! It used to be a railroad, and when the railroad folded, they tore up the tracks and put in this lovely well-maintained gravel trail. Because it was a railroad line, it's pretty flat, and it's shady and a local run club put out water and cups at every road crossing. There were lots of other runners and bikers out this morning and everyone seemed to be in a good mood - I got a lot of friendly "good morning"s!

    Next week I'm back down to 15 miles, so that should be easier and more pleasant.

    Edit: also, I caught a CR 160 Eevee at the trailhead and a Graveler at Starbucks.

    i have Official Numbers from the doctor that say i shed five pounds in the first two weeks of working on this shit.

    backslid some yesterday--i have some issues with binge-eating and i have learned now that i can't trust myself around pizza, which means i don't really have a choice except to eliminate it from my diet unless i'm going somewhere i can buy a single slice or two and not have the rest around. ;; keep telling myself it will be worth it.

    i'm also slowly stumbling into the stage where if i sit around at my computer without moving i feel like i have to get up and do stuff. i have like. actual energy reserves starting to form. it's weird because that hasn't been a thing since i went into a depression spiral in highschool but i like it. i actually feel my age!!!

    @raginghearts I'd suggest an audiobook, specifically an audiobook of a book that you've read/listened to before. That way it doesn't matter if you zone out a bit, because you know what's happening, but (imo) unlike a podcast there's enough going on in a book that it's enjoyable to listen to one you already know.
