How does the nearby feature work? I wandered all around my yard and didn't see any signs of the bird that was apparently three footprints away.

Did get a weedle and seel though. A bit disappointed no Ponytas spawned near the barn.

If you tap the specific pokemon you want to catch, you'll be able to see your avatar turn briefly in the right direction to walk. The footprints are the number of circles (your scan range) between you and the pokemon.

Hm, I think I'm probably going to have more fun with this when I go off to college.

three footprints is actually like super far away, I think.

Yeah, looking at the scale it's at the very least down in the thorny part of the woods by the road.

We have a lake nearby with a cluster of about 10 pokestops, where i live, there's one every couple of miles.

*Everytime i pulled into a minute mart, there was always a random pokemon to catch, even if there was no pokestops nearby.

*if you aren't seeing pokestops anywhere, try reloading the game. That happened to me for awhile.

*Driving in the car and pulling over to get pokemon never works, they always disappear when to car stops. I think i'm running them over or something.

*Caught a clefairy at a minute mart across the train tracks from a cemetary.

*85% of the people walking around today were looking for pokemon.

*how do you evwn get pokemon high leveled enough to fight in gyms? I was out for five hours today and my character is almost level 6

Depends on the gym? CP is only vaguely related to trainer level, the gym near me was pretty chill cos we're all pretty low-level in my area.

(...until some lv12 Red Team jackass came through and left an 884CP vaporeon on it :T I'm only lv6 but I Will Train, dammit! Time to cannibalize sacrifice transfer the metric fuck ton of weedles, pidgey, and rattata!)

Iirc, the higher your trainer level, the more likely you are to find higher CP pokemon in the wild, and also you're capable of raising the CP of your pokemon further.

me, my brothers, and my friend walked around for 2+ hours catching pokes and visiting stops. i'm team mystic and my friend's team valor by sheer coincidence, and it's really fun to play against each other. my youngest bro wants to join instinct once he's high enough, but there's virtually no instinct peeps in the area we know of, so he'd have a really hard time winning and holding on to a gym.

edit: also my friend hatched their first egg and got a tentacool!

OMG THANK YOU I could not for the life of me figure this out xD
Edit: I can't get my avatar to turn when I click the pokemon =/ But the footprints distance is really helpful

I love this game so much, guys!! I've never even played Pokemon before, except for Pokemon Stadium at my friend's house when I was tiny, but I decided to download it because I enjoy Ingress and it's made by the same people...

It's fascinating that Ingress has more player interaction built into it (you can give people items, you need a bunch of lvl8 players to fully power a portal, etc.) but Pokemon is way more social almost solely by virtue of its huge userbase. I've walked like five miles in my boring-ass suburb in the last couple of days, and met bunches and bunches of roving teens and young adults and kids with their parents and... <33 It's so sweet? I love it.

I can't wait to go to this town near my house - the park there is FULL of portals in Ingress, which means it will probably have hella Pokestops >:D

So apparently Westboro Baptist Church heard that a) it is a gym and b) was being controlled by a trainer with a Clefairy named LOVEISLOVE and now, uh... well, this happened.
