Thanks, you have no idea how much better that makes me feel.

I'm really sorry, @chaoticArbiter , but I'm gonna watch it in the hopes that I like it. I know how you must be feeling about this all too well and I'm sorry.

Yeah, I would be totally happy if someone else loved it, and there is certainly an active fandom. Hell, I might get sucked in again once vol 4 starts. We'll see.

Yeah I'm definitely gonna get sucked in again. It and Doctor Who are in exactly the same boat for me: in the off-season I realise how schlocky it is, but as soon as it's back on I love every minute of it.

Ooh! Cool! That gives me a very nice frame to look at it from because that's exactly how DW is for me.

A voice on this from me:

I still like RWBY, and I still like RWBY post-Monty. And while I'm sure that some things will change, have indeed definitely already changed, I try not to look on every deviation from what Monty would have done as something that detracts from the show for me.

The fact is, while it could have gone that way, and while Monty could have had the opportunity to still be running things (I was very upset when I learned of his death), that's... not how things worked out. And we can't really know what the show would have been like, if things had happened that way. We don't even know if the show itself would necessarily have been better. I try not to invest myself in the idea of what could have been, and focus on what is. No show is perfect. Even in the first two progressed, RWBY was... far from perfect. While I loved it to bits, the plot and setting were often cliched, and there were (and still are) moments where the animation feels... somewhat clunky, especially outside of the battle scenes.

I feel like RWBY has got generally better as the volumes have progressed. I'm happy with it as it exists in the world at the moment, and am content with that, even if, hypothetically, it could have been even better with Monty at the helm. And, I hate to say it, but even that wasn't guaranteed. When the furore broke out about that member of the team leaving because he didn't feel that Monty's vision was being followed, and while agree that the whole situation sounds... very much less than ideal, what did strike me was that a lot of the changes described sounded like a production company attempting to implement a more structured professional workflow to improve production speed and maximize quality. And in terms of production quality, I think that Volume 3 was definitely the most polished. While I'm sure that, with Monty involved, the show could have achieved great things, possibly even greater than at present, through his original vision and direct guidance, I'd also hazard that change was going to happen either way, and the fact that change is happening isn't always a bad thing. And while the show is continuing to develop, and, through my eyes, improve, I'm not going to let my wondering about what might have been stop me from enjoying a show I love.

I think that experiencing RWBY for what it is, and as a positive thing in my life, is more valuable than that. I'm sure that Monty would have wanted people to experience RWBY like that as well, to be honest.

seriously though its one of my favorite shows and I'm looking forward to your thoughts and stuff :)

Honestly again for me I just love that for the most part the main characters are all girls. They're action girls who while fanservicey to a degree still kick ass and take names.

(Also word of advice- watch the trailers, the red, white, black and yellow ones I mean, before the rest of the series. They are surprisingly plot relevent.)

See, as much as the main characters are girls, it galls me that Jaune honestly has more character development than Ruby. The title character. The person the show is named after. And I can't help the feeling that it might just be because Miles Luna voices Jaune. Similarly, for a character who doesn't even go to the same school as the main characters and is on a tertiary team in terms of character-importance, Neptune also gets a strangely large amount of screen time.
Meanwhile, Ruby and Blake have never interacted in any significant manner. Weiss and Blake's issues with each other were never acknowledged after volume 1. The girls' various terrible habits, in-show acknowledged perhaps once each, never get addressed or fixed afterwards. Aren't these girls the main characters?

^Nope, that's a totally fair criticism and one of the things I get sulky about (along with Unnecessary Romance). It seemed to be getting better this last season though so hopefully the trend continues.

    also spoilers for RWBY Chibi:
so a recent episode had a reaaaaaaaaaally creepy 'Jaune flips the fuck out on Weiss for 'ignoring' him' skit and it nearly turned me off the whole thing, BUT the latest episode redeemed it by implying that Weiss totally has a crush on Pyrrha.

now I just need me some Nuts 'n Dolts and I'll be a happy bird

And it makes me sad, because there was a moment when Jaune could have been one of the best characters in RWBY: the rooftop reveal at the beginning of the Jaundice arc. He forged his way into Beacon! And sure, he probably only got in because Ozpin ran out of fucks to give three hundred years ago and only lives to troll Glynda and Ironwood, but still! That kind of willingness to play outside the rules to get to places he's totally not prepared for?
He could have been a Slytherin For Good, a lying, conniving strategist, living up to his family's legacy by leveraging his team's skills and also possibly cheating. Probably cheating, considering Pyrrha's power set. A nice contrast to Ruby, whose idea of a plan is the Fastball Special.
    Instead we got Jaune.

Hey, and you can tell me if I'm out of line here but-

Doesn't this fit more with the "We could of had it aaaaal" thread?
The issues with RWBY you mention are ones I agree with, for the most part, but... idk. I would prefer to have that discussion elsewhere, and I might join in the ranting about the
"why the hell is Jaune creeping on Weiss that's ooc as all hell
    " thing.

    @chaoticArbiter Episode 10 I think.

@peripheral Ugh, I dunno how to phrase this without sounding like an asshole. Basically while it could go in the pet peeve thread, I think it's just as relevant here. I'm sure if you start a discussion over there people will join in, but I already said my piece over there so I'm gonna stick to this thread.

I mean it's overall not bad, it's just that one episode that's like 'urrrrrrrrrgh'. It's mostly silly, fun fluff. And there's lots of Nora which is always a plus.

edit: and the best thing is, because there's no plot you can just skip that episode and you won't miss anything! :P
