I was just getting frustrated that the RWBY thread seemed to be more about not liking the show. Idk. This is quite possibly my own brain weird at work.
I was bringing up the complaint about RWBY chibi as an example of discussion I could join in on because I was feeling too uncomfortable to just outright say "people saying you don't like the pacing or the writing, you've said it before, what do you like about the show then?" I am weirdly defensive about rwby because I've had a lot of people rag on it based on the animation in the first episode alone. Sorry

Okay yes. I definitely feel you on the animation thing. Yes the first season is kinda janky in parts, but on the whole I think it's fine, and it's definitely improved. I've also seen a lot of people rag on it and I'm like >:C give it a chance! I also once wrote a strongly worded letter to an online magazine I admired because someone wrote a really unfair article about RWBY being sexist fanservice. Like, rrrrgh. It's not perfect, and I know that, and I occasionally want to knock Miles' and Kerry's heads together over the dumb shit they say, but I like it, goddamnit! I guess there's a few brainbugs of mine coming in here too - I've been in enough echo chambers that when I see people getting defensive about criticism my instinct is to dig my heels in. That's absolutely no fault of yours, and I don't want to make you feel like you can't express your discomfort. That's just where I'm coming from, y'know? In the spirit of positivity: I fucking adore the character, weapon and world design of RWBY. I've made 6 OCs, one full team of my own and half of a team with Mushroom. There are so many possibilities! So much symbolism! Interesting dynamics! Cool monsters! Everything!!!! ....well now I feel like infodumping about my OCs. Good job, Bird. :/
Bluh after some conversation I'm realizing I'm veering into policing a bit. And I understand that show threads are a place for complaint and for being a fan of something. I guess I was just pretty weirded out seeing people just try to convince someone not to watch it at all? *sob story time* Offline the first time I brought up rwby to someone who wasn't the people who introduced me to it his immediate reaction was to a) mock the name b) mock the animation based on the first episode of the first season (and yes, the animation isnt all that great for a lot of the show but still). My sister declared it boring and then was surprised when I didn't take her seriously when she said she suddenly liked it. And generally that's how my siblings interact with the stuff I like- pick it to pieces, calling stupid and humorless when I don't like their "criticisms" (which occasionally have the depth of "you're stupid) Which I realize is not what's going on here, and I'm being a hypocrit by derailing into sob story time. *end sob story*
Infodumping is good. My friend and I made an entire universe of OCS, realized we may have gone overboard and scrapped our RWBY au and used the pieces for an original story. Which was really fun.
Aw man, that person and your siblings are assholes. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Also that sounds super cool! Yes okay I need to get back to work but. There may be infodumps later.
And to clarify one last thing: Its not all criticisms that trigger my :/ reaction. (For example: Spoiler I think that the way they killed pyrrha for the sake of jaune's character growth apparently falls into a longstanding and depressing trend of killing female characters to make a tragedy for the male ones ) Just. Idk. I will try to not drag my own personal bs into the fan thread too often.
