Ooh, Carnegie Mellon actually has these things! They're Steam Tunnels, and they're kind of dangerous and confusing, so students technically aren't allowed to go in there. However, a small amount of students know how to get in and navigate around them, anyways; it's knowledge that tends to get passed on. They gave a tour in 2011, apparently, and someone took pictures. I feel like it would be more plausible to have something like Steam Tunnels instead of catacombs in an American university. If you have a bunch of people snowed into a library (who are there on like a Saturday night or something to explain why there aren't that many students), there could be one student who knows how to get in, and then people can move around from building to building while potentially dodging campus police or others who might get them in trouble for being down there. (Alternatively, finding out that the tunnels are linked to completely implausible catacombs, or that they're haunted. Or both, idk.) I'm not sure how well that would work out with larger daemons, though.
irl, my house was the half of the hotel that got moved, but in the rp we can say it's the half that stayed put and it got connected to the steam tunnel system back when it was a hotel, why the hell not :D there's the front door, the back door, and the back back door. :D
