Oh hey at 0:47 who are all the heroes? I spot Mom Amari, Reaper, 76, Reinhardt, Torbjorn, Mercy, and McCree, but idk who the last ones are

 

Two unreleased heros-- we saw both of them in the "Recall" short when it was scrolled real fast past the old Overwatch agents, so there's a pretty high likelihood that they'll be later added into the game. Running theory (since Ana is her own character, so that was jossed) is that the lady is going to be Sombra.

 

Can't tell yet if my sibling was right that she'd be the first support with an instant heal skill.

 

OK though I will be VERY impressed if Blizzard put subtle characterization in four words in a foreign language. See, I don't speak Egyptian, so I don't know for SURE, but it looks like Ana is writing in fusHa, the formal dialect, rather than masri, the Egyptian dialect, and it certainly looks like she's using a calligraphy pen.

Thing is, fusHa really isn't used all that often! I learned that it's almost never used in real life conversation, just very formal settings, like if you're writing an academic paper or you're a news reporter. So if Ana Amari sat down to write a heartfelt letter to her daughter, that even starts with 'my dearest', and ended up writing it in calligraphy in a superformal way, then that would sure be some characterization there.

Of course it could also just be that fusHa is standardized Arabic and calligraphy looks nice.

Honestly, I'll admit that I'm in the "Blizzard is not nearly clever enough for any of this" but more and more they are... proving me wrong? I wonder how much of it is having a cohesive team with a lot of new blood that can just... build a world from anew rather than having to build on the (incredibly flimsy) IP they already had.

I am so fucking invested in the Amaris I am crying with happiness.

Also, since I know there are other creative types who play, there's a big bang being arranged! I've already signed up, but I fully intend to drag as many people as I can into it.

 

Nah man you see even if Mako's Maori Junkrat is white AF and def not native Australian. I am happily down for his daemon to be something feral and invasive, idk what tho...

Everything bout him screams ferret to me personally :p

 

I'm not. Entirely comfortable with the concept that people couldn't have daemons from the area they grew up in because of their ethnicity.

The fact that Roadhog's got a legendary skin referring to his background implies that's important to him, which is why I suggested something from New Zealand for him, but, well. I barely know anything about New Zealand wildlife.

 

Ehhhh fair enough I only mentioned it because I was born in Aus myself as a fourth-gen criminal descendant and damn proud of it. (Also I was really into the idea of white people being as alien to that landscape as the feral cats and rats and rabbits and foxes... JR is pretty feral in general... )

but yeah I'm not saying people should be restricted from area-inspired daemons due to ethnicity, but I think they should have daemons of species that they're actually aware of? Like I think Junkers had bigger worries than already long-extinct by that point marsupials that aren't exactly badass-looking XD Kangaroo Rat, maybe, as a midpoint?
