"Was there anyone else with you?" Mica asks, and when Annette shakes her head he double-checks the lock on the door. "I don't know what's out there, but if you're in danger I don't want to find out. I'm going to see if the back door is locked, and then I'll stick something in front of the windows. You two should go to the stairs, that's the farthest from any windows. Make lots of noise if something gets you." He runs to the back door, wondering how his family can possibly still be asleep. There's windows up there too - he'll have to get those after the ones down here.
The two hurry to the stairs, clinging to each other, eyes wide. "...thank you," Annette whispers. As Mica moves through the house, the tapping follows.
The back door is locked, thank goodness, and the windows in the living room are low enough that he can shove the couch against them. It takes more effort than he wants, but he manages it. The window in the kitchen - it's not so small he can ignore it, but it's too high to do much. He puts the stupidly tall coffee machine under it and sets the largest cutting board against the frame. It won't stop anything but it might keep them from noticing there's a window there. Mica hurries back to the stairs to check on Lucas and Annette, and to do something about the upstairs windows. I should wake Arie up. She might not like him, but she'll know what to do. He starts to regret his decision not to call the police earlier.
"Do you know what's happening? I... can we help?" Lucas asks quietly, catching your arm in the stairwell. "Please, if we can do something, too..." The knocks echo on the walls, hollow and persistent.
"Just stay safe, okay? I'm not letting you get kidnapped again. Go - there's steak knives in the kitchen, arm yourselves." He scrambles up the stairs and into Arie's room. "Arie, Arie, wake up, we're being attacked!" He almost knocks her dresser over trying to get it against her window.
The two nod, moving quickly into the kitchen Arie groans, rolling over in her bed and trying to pull her pillow over her ears. "Mnngh. What is it? Go to bed, Mica..."
"Wake the fuck up, Arie, there's someone breaking into our house! I need your help!" Mica shakes his head to clear it and runs into his and Ethan's room.
"...breaking... Mica, hold on, what are you talking about?!" Arie pushes herself up, moving quickly to try and stop Mica. "Don't wake him up, do you want to terrify him? What's going on?"
"Block all the fucking windows, Arie, whoever it is is coming after the people downstairs and I don't think they'll take no for an answer." Mica isn't waking Ethan up but he isn't trying particularly hard not to; the chest of drawers in their room is heavy and it doesn't budge until he manages to tip it over. Luckily, this covers the window just fine. "Get mom and dad's window. I'm going back downstairs."
"Mica..." Arie hisses, but moves to sneak off and lock the windows all the same. The two are huddled downstairs, listening. The knocking is at the front door again.
Mica gets himself a knife from the kitchen and checks all the downstairs entrances again. Satisfied with his work, he goes back to the stairs. "Okay, my sister will probably be downstairs in a minute to yell questions at me. I'll talk to her, but I have to know - what the fuck is after you?"
"I don't know. I don't know. I don't know -" Lucas shudders. "I. I don't-" "They aren't human," Annette whispers.
"That's what I thought," Mica says. Probably the same things that gave him wings, the same things that Arie is so convinced exchanged him for her real brother. Well. This is going to be interesting. At least he'd gotten away back then; poor Lucas and Annette have clearly been there a long time.
"Fuck off!" Mica shouts. "Can she come in without being invited?" he asks Annette. Or is that just vampires? Damnit. Damnit.
"..I. maybe?" Annette hesitates. "YES! I'M JUST BEING POLITE, MICA!" The woman's voice is scolding. "All three of you are in big trouble, buster!"
"I... I don't know-" both of your new acquaintances whisper. "Let me in , Mica, I'm freezing my goddamn tits off out here! Let's just get this done so I can go home to my sweet sweet fiance." The woman sounds exasperated.
